MS Word As Default Email Editor

Mar 11, 2010

this is the first time i am using windows mail. in all earlier versions like outlook / express etc, i know this option where you can use word as default editor for composing all new mail messages. this ensures that we can format / allign / bullet etc just like in word. However, this windows mail thing is not showing me this option of using word as default editor for composing all new messages / replies.

Windows Default Mail And News Warning *Every* Time Open Windows Mail Up!

Mar 7, 2009

I've had a problem for a while now. Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. I click yes every time, but I will still get this message when I open Windows Mail again the next day. Everything's works OK after I click this message. No other errors or anything.

Tried changing by accessing Properties from Windows Mail but when I change to "Make this the defalut e-mail handler, apply and save then exit and return to Properties the setting has returned to Not the default e-mail handler.

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium.

Note:

Control panel does show Windows mail as being the Default Newsgroup handler.

I can go to options and click make default which it accepts but after presing OK and reopening options it says again it is not the default mail handler I had thought that this ptoblem was linked to have outlook installed I have uninstalled this now and rebnooted but the problem persists linked to this problem perhaps is the fact that internet options only sees windows mail as a news handler

Default Email, Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail

May 12, 2009

i also tried to change my default email to windows live, it doesn't work, comes up w/ some weird kind of mail that doesn't send messages (not sure if it's trying to use windows mail even tho it's set to windows live mail, or what). so, i'm trying to set up my windows live account (which is new, just set it up a couple of months ago), through windows mail. tried setting to pop3.live.com and smtp.live.com and when it goes to connect i keep getting this error message:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'pop3.live.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:

i really want my default e-mail server to be set up to something that works. and i do not want to go back to using my yahoo account.

When I use Internet Explorer 7 (Vista) and double click a link on the page to send an email via Windows Mail, it doesn't work. Message is "This application is not the Default Mail Handler." When I go into Windows Mail Tools, Options and click "Make Default" where it says "This application is not the Default Mail Handler", it doesn't work. The button goes from black to gray and then when I exit and come back in, the change has not been made.

Default Email With Windows Mail

Sep 14, 2009

I can't set my email as default. I have gone into tools and "set as default" but it doesn't stay, so I went online to find an answer - I got some great help from an earlier post but when I went into Default programs - set program access and computer default - custom I find "use my current email program" but no tick boxes for enable access to this program.

I'm a bit stumped about where to go next. NB: I had to reset my computer back to factory settings in July as I lost sound following the service pack 2 download. I can't email photo's or send links for webpages. Also in the set default programs it has windows mail (news) as my default.

The host 'smtp.mail.comcast.net' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Subject 'Emailing: 12-30-07 golf', Account: 'POP3', Server: 'smtp.mail.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

After many attempts to send 1 email, I changed my outgoing server name several times, apparently incorrectly. I don't know how to go back to the default settings.

Windows Default Mail Client Is Not Properly Installed

Mar 23, 2008

I think I must have deleted one of my windows mail programs. I have Windows Mail (News) but not the other one, Windows Mail. I can use the windows mail to send and receive mail but when I click on an email address from the internet, it says that it can't do that because the default mail client is not properly installed. I've been to the control panel and when I go to default programs, I only get Windows Mail (News) to show up. I can go into options within the mail program and set it to
be the defaut mail handler, but as soon as I close the window after hitting apply and ok, it reverts to the other setting. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I don't want to reformat the hard drive as I have too much work on it and no time to back up at this point.

I have just purchased a new computer (a Dell Inspiron 545) but I am having a problem with the recently used program list in the start menu. Random programs are showing up in there without me using them and the programs I do use aren't getting added. I have checked the settings and both of the necessary checkboxes are ticked. So I had a search on this forum and found a post that advised you to change a file in the registry at this address : HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer however in the registry editor treeview the Policies folder is empty.
