Use to have a very good text editor on my work PC (win 2000), firstly TextPad and then PSPad.My work PC has now been upgraded to Vista Enterprise and I can't reinstall them, since I don't have admin rights and don't expect to be easily given them.Anyone know of a text editor like either of these which can simply be

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to Install Windows Vista Ultimate OEM 32-bit on my new build that I recently purchased. I have got to different stages and have had so many errors that I have lost track. I have got the BSOD numerous times and to be honest, I don't know why I decided to buy Vista. I have got so far to the Hard drive drvers screen before I plugged in my USB memory stick and it stopped responding. After that, I haven't go as far. Sometimes I get a BSOD right after it has finished loading the files explaining to me that it couldn't write to the memory because it was read-protected. I haved also got to the language select screen but it doesn't respond. I've even got as far as the regristration key input (again) and I get a little pop-up box saying all sorts of errors. Is it my system which isn't compatible? (BTW my Vista is legal)

I have 2 drives- a recovery drive with 10 gigs and a normal c: drive with 140 gigs and 55 gigabyte spare. i want to make a partition on my c: drive of 27 gigs to install ubuntu but every method i try doesnt work. i tried left clicking on "computer" and clicking manage,then disk management and left clicking on the drive i want to shrink and clicking shrink volume but it says "there is not enough memory to complete the operation. save your work,close the other programs and try again." i closed everything and tried again but still no luck. i tried using acronis disk director and yet again still no luck. i tried freeing more space off my hd and deleted 3 gigs and tried again but still no luck ! i am very confused because i have nearly 60 gigs free space yet it still wont work. im running vista home premium 34 bit

Now I removed the malware (an old worm which somehow passed through Windows Defender while I was browsing a DVD). But access to Registry Editor is still blocked and I have to restore it manually. It is best to install Windows Vista after you install the older operating systems. Older operating systems will continue to use Boot.ini for boot configuration. Should I replace the code that used to work with Boot.ini to now use BCD on Windows Vista? No. You will need to alter your code so that it uses Boot.ini for the older operating systems, and so that it uses BCD on Windows Vista. What does "your code" mean?
If I want to install both XP & Vista on separate partitions, apparently I need to install XP first. During the XP install I have the option of creating 2 partitions don't I? It's my understanding that there can be only 1 primary partition & only the primary partition is bootable. Every other partition is an extended partition. This is what confuses me. XP uses the boot.ini file & is installed first on the primary partition. Won't Vista be installed on an extended partition? Since XP uses the boot.ini file & Vista uses the bcdedit file, which file is used if both XP & Vista are installed in a multiboot configuration? Which would be the default OS? To further complicate matters, suppose that I want to install XP, Vista & Linux. Which of the 3 do I install first since Linux uses a different boot file?

I have not changed anything in my settings or set-up but just recently one of my contacts say they just get what appears to be a blank email from me with a 1kb attachment image001.gif. However, if they open my email and click Forward, when the new window opens to put the forward address in, the message I sent can be read, with all the formatting etc I used. They say they haven't changed anything in their setup.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking (DNS) is *30* *TIMES* more accurate than Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) on any use where unusual words are involved, such as medical usage. Why? - because the "scan documents" feature of WSR is broken, just plain does not work. On a 600 word medical dictation, I get 30 text mistakes when I use WSR; I get ZERO text mistakes using DNS. It takes a long time to find and correct those 30 text mistakes.
That is a poor 95% text accuracy, a person would be better off just typing everything in. The same document scanning feature in DNS works fine. If I did not use that feature, then DNS would have almost as high an error rate as WSR does. The same document scanning feature in "MacSpeech Dictate 1.5.8", a speech app that only runs on Macs, works fine also, no text errors at all on a 600 word medical dictation, thanks to its "scan documents" feature actually working........
My monitor is set at 1152 X 720 pixels. The default is 1440 x 900, but that makes everything so super tiny that I can't see text too well. Text size is set at default or standard. The Windows dialog boxes are all cut off so that at least one third of them cannot be seen. From using old Windows OS systems in the past, I can guess at what is unseen and just use the tab key to select "Ok, Cancel, and Apply".
But some boxes, for example, the "Sound Theme" dialog box has a whole section below of selecting sounds for events and I cannot see any of it.
Here's the clincher. Just to adjust my sound theme, I set my monitor to the microscopic 1440 x 900 setting and still cannot see the dialog boxes. The text size set on default.
What settings are these boxes viewable?
I should point out that my Sister and a couple of friends have
