Notepad Won't Allow To Enter Text
Sep 28, 2008I want to use the note pad but it won't let me enter text. It only allows skript writting with the mouse. how can I make entries on a note by typing in the info?

Can't Get Rid Of Notepad Association
Jun 17, 2008I inadvertantly changed a .bat file association to open with Notepad and didn't uncheck the box for it to just run once under Notepad. Now I need that ..bat file to be able to run and can't get rid of the Notepad association.

Mar 23, 2008If I edit the file in notepad and try to save I get this message: "Cannot create the C:usersathandocumentshtmlfilename.html file. Make sure the path and filename are correct".
"Right-click on the Documents file and choose properties. Select customize Use this folder as template: All Items Apply this template to subfolders" This list a fix for when located in specific area but for myself these files are not located it the documents folder and this fix does not work. If you feel this post would be better served elsewhere (security, network sharing)
Lost Notepad In Submenu.
Jun 30, 2009I have a Problem with my Windows Vista Business Service Pack 2. I lost my menu "Notepad" in submenu, when I right-click on the Desktop. And to select "New". Normaly I have Notepad in submenu, but my Notebook was upgrate to Service Pack 2. After it finish, I never find Notpad. I have a picture to show. It hasn't Notpad in submenu on "New".

Aug 23, 2009I use an ancient program to replace Windows native notepad. It is called 'Notpad'. Imagine typing that into a search, you get a suggestion that you meant 'Notepad' and no relevant info.The program is discontinued. However, it worked fine in Viats x64.
Until a few days ago. I cannot execute the program. It shows up in task manager. Clicking .txt files does nothimg. When I delete the notpad.exe and replace it with the original from zip, nothing.
Permissions, Notepad Wouldn't Save
Mar 3, 2009I have a program that installs as a subfolder of the Program Files (x86) folder. Inside the main folder of the application is a file, SpecDat.xxx. The application, when run, needs to change this file. If I run this application from an administrator account, it comes back with a Error '53': File Not Found error. After some extended debugging by both me and the author, we discovered it wasn't updating this file.
When I tried to update this file manually using Notepad, Notepad wouldn't save it either. After more research, I ran the application by right-clicking and selecting "run as an administrator". Now it works, even though I'm always running it from an administrator account.

Mar 23, 2008This is insane. SP1 is installed and gave me no problems but now I have been reverted back to hell. Even with no UAC enabled I can't rename C:Windowsotepad.exe to notepad.default.exe so I can replace it with NotePad++. So what's next if I am not an Administrator when logged in?

Oct 16, 2009MB Asus P5N-T Deluxe, Just upgraded from Core 2 Duo to Core 2 Quad. Cannot enter BIOS. At boot the message "new CPU fitted to get best results update your BIOS". When pressing DEL it says entering BIOS but doesn't. Tried using the Installation disc but get a blue screen saying windows shut 'cos new H/w or S/W fitted. How can I update the BIOS if it can't be got? Will it mean replacing the CPU - downloading and installing the updated BIOS then refitting the Core 2 Quad?

May 15, 2010I am running Windows Vista Home premium 64bit with 8gb ram and an hp c309a printer. My problem is that vista take a long time to print even just a 1 word paper using notepad. Also when i right click the printer in the printer folder it also take time to open the properties, aprox 3 minutes. So if i try to print it takes 3 minutes just to open the tab to click print and to select the printer i wish to use. The c309a is connected by usb cable, and i have tried re-installing the latest drivers and firmware for the printer as well as different usb cables and each of my usb ports. Yet for some reason there is a long 3+ minute pause when trying to print. I have also tried using the network feature and I still have same trouble. Also i have checked to make sure print spooling is on in services. HP has a utility to check for issues for both network and for usb, and the printer passes each test fine. I have done so many full uninstalls and installing of the software as well as the cable changes it is driving me nuts. I have been google'ing for days and days and have had no luck in fixing this issue. One last comment every time i try to print the applications I am using freeze for the 3+ minutes and the window application shows "application not responding", but after 3+ minutes i can finally select the printer and hit print, then at that point it freezes again for about 2 minutes and then prints. I have run multiple virus scans and multiple spyware detection programs and have also run online virus scans using bitdefend and trendmicro as well and i have no virus or spyware. I have also ran "hijackThis" and been told my system appears clean.

Sep 11, 2009one day last week, my vista x64 machine stopped going into sleep mode. Whenever I select sleep, the screen goes black, but the system never powers off - it just sits there, still running. If i move the mouse, the screen comes back on, almost like it never went into sleep mode at all.
I've got all updated drivers & BIOS for the motherboard (Asus Crosshair II formula) It's really wierd - I can't think of anything I did to cause this. I'm actually kind of getting fed up with vista (this isn't the only "random" problem I've had with vista, and I'll tell you XP, for all its faults, ran perfectly fine)
I'd really like to get this working, as I have a ****tily-paying job and would like to reduce my power bill as much as I can. I know I could just power the entire computer down, but I'm lazy and, well, I guess I expect features that exist to, you know, work.

May 6, 2008I'm looking for some help here. I'm running Vista Ultimate x64. It no longer enters sleep mode on its own. It used to. I can force it into sleep mode by clicking on the Vista Orb and selecting "Sleep". It won't do it on its own - which is what I want it to.
I've run through the Control Panel/Power Mgt troubleshooter on these forums. All my settings seemed to be correct. Using the CMD prompt and powercfg -devicequery wake_armed yields one device: my logitech g15 keyboard. (Using powercfg -a shows that the only sleep state available is S3. That is correct for my motherboard, an Abit IP 35 pro.)
If forced into sleep, the keyboard will wake it up.
The problem, again, centers on the automatic sleep entrance. Currently set for 1 hour of idle.
It seems to me that the machine never thinks it's idle. Is that where I should start? Finding processes which are running in the background?

Jul 7, 2008I type about 40 words per minute, but when typing on my home computer it does not enter all the keys that I hit. It is no particular key but more like there is a micro-second stall in the computer somehow that prevent the keyboard stroke from being recognized. I notice it most while using internet explorer probably because that is what I use most, but have had it happen while using other programs. After typing a page or so, I look to the screen to find a dozen or so misspelled words due to this problem. I have Windows Vista as the operating system.

Mar 23, 2008I've bought Dell XPS M 1530 recently. Earlier with bios version A_05 my notebook didnot detect wireless network if it became available while the computer was already On. The computer had to be waking up or restarting in the presence of network and then only it registered it. The Dell technician downloaded the latest bios (version A_07) and the wireless network problem got corrected. But the new problem thats comeup now is that closing the lid doesnt put the computer to sleep. I checked in the power options, thats correctly configured. Even changed it to hibernate when i close lid. That doesnt work either. One more thing i must add - that it's not like my computer doesnt get to know at all that the lid is closed. When i open the lid, everything is ON but the mouse arrow behaves 'drunk' for a while before becoming normal.

May 15, 2009my computer has been failing to enter and stay in standby mode. I had set the power button to initiate hibernate, sleep button to initiate sleep and close the lid to turn the computer off. All was working fine and settings are all as they should be, to my knowlege nothing has been changed but when I press the power button or try to enter hibernate through the start menu, the computer enters hibernate and then instantly starts back up. I am able to turn the competer off completely but no luck with hibernate. System restore is failing to work also so I am not able to set the system back to an earlier state.

Mar 23, 2008The last time I started windows media player (not center), I started getting an "Enter Network Password" prompt every 1-3 minutes which blocks windows media player. The prompt indicates the following:

Checkbox to Save password to password list.
I have no idea what media player is trying to connect to or why. It acts like media player has internally lost connection with some functionality originating from the microsoft site. I've never configured any live accounts or similar activities with media player. I do have an XBOX 360 and sharing enabled. This worked pretty much right away without any problems. I rebuild the connection after getting this prompt and its working, but the password prompt continues to show up. I'm not willing to enter any of my own password information for fear that something bad might be happening.

Jul 29, 2009I send out a newsletter by email to a group of people, sometimes direct from WinMail sometimes via MS Word. I have not changed anything in my settings or set-up but just recently one of my contacts say they just get what appears to be a blank email from me with a 1kb attachment image001.gif. However, if they open my email and click Forward, when the new window opens to put the forward address in, the message I sent can be read, with all the formatting etc I used. They say they haven't changed anything in their setup.
