Mar 24, 2009

I have had a few problems with my laptop, i was casually checking my emails, and i got the "Blue screen of Death". Occasionally after when i would log on it would come up with a message from my virus scanner, saying : "Trojan tryin to enter", i would decline, but some how, eventually it must of got through. Now everytime i get to the screen to log in it straight away blue screens, occasionally it will let me into my user account but then blue screens a short while after.

System Restore + Blue Screen = Virus?

Jan 20, 2009

I've got Win Vista Home Premium SP1. Up until recently, when i chose System Restore it came up with a calander-like window and then i was able to choose the day i wanted my sistem restored to. Then a few days ago I experienced a crash, and it took my pc a while to check my disk (the only one, since it's a laptop).

That's the checking:

Then i manged to enter Vista again, and i thought i'd just restore again, hoping nothing was wrong. And when i clicked System Restore it took absolutely AGES to open (the rest of the stuff worked/s well...) and when it eventually opened i got that:

And now, if i choose "Choose a different restore point", i get this:

Where has the calender gone? Where are my previous restore points??? What's wrong?

Then, yesterday i was checking bbc's webpage and i came across this article: Click

Restart: Get Blue Screen Message

Apr 18, 2009

I shut down my computer during a windows update and now every time I restart I get a blue screen message that lasts for about a second and then my computer restarts itself again. It does this every time. I'm operating in safe mode right now. I'm sorry if this sounds vague, I'm not very good with computer terms and stuff, but I'll give more details if I need to.

Anti Virus Constantly Turning Off System

Jan 2, 2010

I am COMPLETELY new to Vista Forums! I have a big problem... I recently got my computer cleaned thru eRecover in Acer. When all that was done, I installed McAfee 2009 ( thru a website for free... ) and i noticed my computer got REALLY slow...I uninstalled it, and i got McAfee Security ( I got it for free since I have ComCast Internet ) Ever since, my Anti-Virus has constantly been turning off. One time, it even said that McAfee Virus Scan was never installed... and I also downloaded a torrent. ( Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 ) anti-virus STILL keeps on turning off...

PC Shuts Down Due To Trojan Virus

May 10, 2010

I know is it seems to be shutting itself down when it has just started up due to it having a virus of some sort, a trojan was mentioned. Can someone recommend what the best course of action is in this particular case? I suggested that if the OS (Vista) is accessible then reformatting the HD may be the best thing to do. But will this get rid of the virus/trojan as well? I am aware that this will involve losing all data. I'm led to believe rather than have the original discs, PC's these days come with a seperate partition which holds the OS, which is used when reformatting is required? How do I reformat the HD from here?

Remove The Virus/trojan Completely

Jul 29, 2009

Hey friends,I do understand that this is not the category in which I'am supposed to post such threads, but since this section/community is very active and consists of many professionals I thought of posting it here.I posted a thread in the other section meant for virus but unfortunately did not receive any kind of help or reply.

I downloaded a video through utorrents, when I tried to play it through 'Windows Media Player' it was'nt able to play it and a dialogue box appeared asking me to download a codec which was necessary to play that video.Since the dialogue box appeared through 'Windows Media Player' and due to my ignorance,I thought it was authorized and downloaded the codec..........

Infected Files With Virus Named Trojan-Downloader.Win32.VB.dck

Jan 10, 2009

I turned on my computer the other day and an automatic download started to update my Verizon Internet Security Suiter (FIOS). I started a scan of my computer with the update. The new Security Suite update supposedly found 29,000+ infected files with a virus named Trojan-Downloader.Win32.VB.dck? The weird thing is - When I look for the files that are supposedly infected - or the folder that these files supposedly exist in I can't find it. The virus appears to have created a folder named " ' " on my hard drive - but when I look for this folder I can't find it. Even if I view hidden folders. My computer doesn't appear to be running strangly like it is infected. But the virus scan says it is.

Analyze Blue Screen: No Consistency Of Circumstances, A Blue Screen Will Appear!

Jun 30, 2008

Business with SP1
Sony laptop, fast core2duo, 4GB
Defender+Avast!
Working beautifully for many months, and then a few
weeks ago this began happening:

Perhaps 2-3 times a week, and with no consistency of circumstances, a blue screen will appear. It might happen while working or when returning from hibernate. There's a countdown as memory is stored, and then a freeze. The only way to recover is to do a hard OFF (5 seconds on the power switch) and restart. When it first happened, I had not installed or changed anything, so I was comfortable doing a restore. It happened again.

It's confusing because the stated cause is inconsistent. I've checked to ensure that all drivers are updated and nothing that's contraVistarian is installed. What analytical steps can I undertake to discover what's causing this, and then to help me make the necessary changes?

Screen Saver Prevents Monitor From Turning Off

Mar 23, 2008

I recently got a new computer running Windows Vista and everything is working great except the monitor won't turn off automatically like it should. My Screen Saver starts fine after 3 minutes of inactivity - I'm using the built-in My Pictures Slideshow that shows personal pictures & video clips. But the monitor never turns off even though I have it configured to auto-power off after 30 minutes of inactivity - it just stays
on all day running my screen saver. If I change the screen saver to a different one the monitor turns off after 30 minutes like it should. The problem seems limited to the My Pictures Slideshow screen saver. This is troubling because this same configuration worked fine with Windows XP (the only difference was that XP's My Pictures Slideshow did not include videos - it only showed pictures). Is this just a bug in Vista or is there something I can do to resolve the problem?

Different Blue Screens:Look Like Blue Screen Appears When To Much Action Is Going On Like Opening Of IE And Outlook

Feb 13, 2009

Problem Blue Screen. No new hardware or software installed recently, last Windows vista update was on 01/15. When I start first, PC passes user registration (boots fine) and
does the normal stuff like loading software and starting the wireless internet connection via Netgear, opening some windows/programms I will close. All normal, but than comes a Blue Screen and very fast shut down of system with restart. Hardly can read the message...Look like Blue Screen appears when to much action is going on like opening of IE and Outlook... or open to many windows... or some bad programm/hardware is booting. But when I restart, restart gives a different blue screens and trouble is much earlier or directly after registering to the system.

But all starting or booting turn slower, real slow now. Start in --safe mode with net working-- the PC works, but the PC can't handle heavy workloads, is really slow in action. I cannot open --My pictures-- to see all picture files displyed on screen (2.7 GB) (the process trying to access the files in safe mode is real slow) and when I attempt to transfer the file to a USB stick, the computer is stopping in middle of action (after 50% transfer)..........

Virus Scan Completely Multi Part Message In MIME Format

Apr 8, 2009

I don't know if I got a virus or not. I don't think so, I ran a virus scan completely twice. but check it anyway.I was trying to get a photo program to do something, don't even remember what now, and it went crazy. It added a .lnk to every program. I mean every one. It wouldn't even show the desktop on a reboot until I removed it. It sent everything to the internet browser where of course it wouldn't run. I can't get rid of it. I can remove a program and reload it, make a shortcut and the thing adds a .lnk to the shortcut I delete the .lnk and it wants an association. I can assign it one but it requires it every time. There seems to be no way to check a "use this association every time." It's grayed out. It scattered all the desktop icons all over the desktop and changed the icon pictures all to blank. I have a program called Iconord that will restore the arrangement of the icons and it even failed.I have tried system recalls to no avail. Just getting email to work again took a long time and I still have to assign it an association

Fills From Left To Right With The Blue Line: Error Message 0x800CCC13

Aug 27, 2009

I get the words "Authorizing" and "Checking Mail" down near my clock, and I get the little window with the "receiving messages" line, that fills from left to right with the blue line; but then, after the blue line is all the way across, there's a long delay, and I get a window with an error message with the number 0x800CCC13. When I look that error message up on the Microsoft site, it says that means:

0x800CCC13 IXP_E_SOCKET_WRITE_ERROR Unable to read Winsock reply

Interestingly, even though the new messages don't come in, everything else works fine. All the menus and functions are A-OK. I can still compose new messages or replies to earlier messages, and send them out, and they go out just fine. But then, after the new compositions are sent, the program automatically tries to bring in (receive) new messages, and sometimes it succeeds, but sometimes it just runs into the same error message. I've contacted my server and they claim that there is nothing wrong at their end. They think it is a flaw in my Windows Mail program. (On my computer upstairs, which has a later version of Vista and Windows Mail by about one year, Windows Mail works fine.) I've considered the following options:

1. Use System Restore to go back a few months, and see if that puts Windows Mail back to normal.

2. Try to download a new Windows Mail program compatible with my version of Vista (if it's possible to download Windows Mail separately).

I'm worried that if I use the second option it will wipe out all my mail,
which is too important for me to lose.

Screen Freeze Or Blue Screen Needing Reboot

Feb 1, 2009

I've had voltage issues causing my computer to freeze or reboot during games and dvds. Fixed that and the computer was fine after memtest showing no problems. That was late Dec.

A few days ago, the computer would go to a blue screen saying it's dumping physical memory and then automatically reboots. Thinking my harddisk might be collapsing on me (I have a seagate barracuda 7200.11 500Gb HD with the SD15 firmware, the infamous crash friendly HD), I flash the HD with the SD1A firmware from seagate, then it was fine. 2days later, Catalyst started to cause problems by not responding, so I formated the drive and reinstalled vista ultimate, along with Catalyst, drivers from Mobo manufacturer ASUS, plus a couple of other softwares. That was yesterday, and now I'm getting the same blue screen back, or the computer just freezes.

1. System startup from power off condition
2. System boots to login screen
3. Blue screen referencing processor timing or something

I have not overclocked or anything everything is vanilla. I would also note that I run hardware diagnostics utilities and it seems fine. Also, I never get the message about abnormal system termination like ususal. How can I get a clue as to what is going on here. So far it seems like the error is bogus, I can log in and the machine will run for days with no problem.

Message The Screen Says Upgrade Checking Has Been Disabled

May 9, 2008

A month back I bought a Dell Latitude D630 with XP Pro installed. After seeing that Vista SP1 solved a bunch of problems with Vista I decided I want to go with Vista on my laptop. I bought the full version of Vista Business from the Windows Marketplace. Microsoft says (unless I misunderstood) that there is a valid upgrade path from XP Pro SP2 to Vista Business. I am starting the install from the disk and from within Windows. The Upgrade Advisor says I am ready to go. But...When I enter my key and move forward upgrading is grayed out and is unavailable. There is a message on the screen that says upgrade checking has been disabled.
