View 9 RepliesI turned on my computer the other day and an automatic download started to update my Verizon Internet Security Suiter (FIOS). I started a scan of my computer with the update. The new Security Suite update supposedly found 29,000+ infected files with a virus named Trojan-Downloader.Win32.VB.dck? The weird thing is - When I look for the files that are supposedly infected - or the folder that these files supposedly exist in I can't find it. The virus appears to have created a folder named " ' " on my hard drive - but when I look for this folder I can't find it. Even if I view hidden folders. My computer doesn't appear to be running strangly like it is infected. But the virus scan says it is.

I downloaded a video through utorrents,when I tried to play it through 'Windows Media Player' it was'nt able to play it and a dialogue box appeared asking me to download a codec which was necessary to play that video.Since the dialogue box appeared through 'Windows Media Player' and due to my ignorance,I thought it was authorized and downloaded the codec..........
Norton found a Trojan.Brisv.A!inf virus that affects two files that I needed to manually remove. One of the files I deleted with no problem, but I cannot delete the other file (both MP3 Files) no matter WHAT I try! can delete this file! I have searched posts, and nothing I try will allow me to delete this MP3 File.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am working on an A300-1J1 (French Keyboard & Vista 32). The machine is owned by a member of my family, and when I got it it was totally down due to virus contamination. I started out getting the system virus free and by using Bit Defender, Avira Rescue and Trinity Rescue Disk, I managed to get it to the point where I was not finding any malware, but still couldn't boot due to files being trashed by the various malware that had been picked up. The machine was so hard down that it would BSOD almost contiously on a boot or would hang in the welcome screen.
I removed the hard drive and put it in a USB Sata external unit and then did a Avira check and it told me that the unit was clean, I then did a chkdsk /f /r and had 5 files that had been damaged and were repaired. I then did a defrag and re installed the drive and it boots fine, but i cannot seem to use any of my USb flash drives or my USB sata eternal units on it. It keeps trying to install USB Controllers and Intel USB Devices, but it tells me that when I plug in a USB flash drive or a Sata drive that it doesn't recognize the peripheral...
This trojan is identified by Windows LiveOne scan. It is not removed, however. This trojan is not seen by Norton360 full scan (N360 being too busy trying to eliminate the one lonely tracking cookie we need here to access our email). This trojan is not seen by Malwarebytes full scan, either. Does anyone have any info what is this trojan and should it be removed (and how)? It does not appear to be doing anything bad, but not Sure...not sure.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI know is it seems to be shutting itself down when it has just started up due to it having a virus of some sort, a trojan was mentioned. Can someone recommend what the best course of action is in this particular case? I suggested that if the OS (Vista) is accessible then reformatting the HD may be the best thing to do. But will this get rid of the virus/trojan as well? I am aware that this will involve losing all data. I'm led to believe rather than have the original discs, PC's these days come with a seperate partition which holds the OS, which is used when reformatting is required? How do I reformat the HD from here?

on reboot the screen went black and explorer did not open. after searching around I found I could get my desktop open by Run > explore.exe and ending the process of the currently running explorer.exe.
This was great, I thought i had cracked it. The virus was gone and internet browsing was fine (no pop ups or IE jumping up). However, my other programs suffered itunes would not appear among many other (they were runny on task manager but not appearing).............
I'm nearing the end of my subscription with Norton and I don't want to re-new it as i am not a fan of the software no more.
I am planning on using Windows Defender to scan my PC etc and using Windows Firewall.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWindows just stops during virus scan (Trend Micro)- eventually have to crash it Sometimes during logon, Windows just wanders away....either have to crash it or eventually it will reboot. Cannot boot in safe mode. It will get so far in loading dll files and then reboots it self after a period of inactivity. Cannot download latest Windows security updates.
The symptoms sound like the conflicker worm so I've tried the Sysclean tool recommended by Trend Micro with the latest pattern file. The system stops at some point just as it does with the virus scan and I have to crash it. If I log on to the latop and just surf or play games, no problem. I've also run sfc /scannow which reports no problems.
This friend of mine has real problem with her laptop (Vista sp1)it was first noticed when her anti-virus did a scheduled scan. The anti-virus program hung whilst scanning the System32 folder.I tried with Windows Defender. Same thing, it hangs after a while.
I de-activated her anti-virus program (forgot the name. Not a well known brand) and downloaded/installed Avast, to no avail it also hangs whilst scanning the System32 folder.I also tried to scan using SFC/scannow. The PC freezes at 68 % of the scan.I tried these different manipulation in safe mode.Same results and everytime, the PC Freezes and I am obliged to do a hard stop/restart.
I don't know if I got a virus or not. I don't think so, I ran a virus scan completely twice. but check it anyway.I was trying to get a photo program to do something, don't even remember what now, and it went crazy. It added a .lnk to every program. I mean every one. It wouldn't even show the desktop on a reboot until I removed it. It sent everything to the internet browser where of course it wouldn't run. I can't get rid of it. I can remove a program and reload it, make a shortcut and the thing adds a .lnk to the shortcut I delete the .lnk and it wants an association. I can assign it one but it requires it every time. There seems to be no way to check a "use this association every time." It's grayed out. It scattered all the desktop icons all over the desktop and changed the icon pictures all to blank. I have a program called Iconord that will restore the arrangement of the icons and it even failed.I have tried system recalls to no avail. Just getting email to work again took a long time and I still have to assign it an association

I downloaded the bought version 8.0 and began having problems with the computer lagging, and generally slow all over, not thinking it was AVG, I checked every other possible issue that I thought may be causing it. Eventually it lead to AVG, as things had been good prior to installation. I completely removed AVG and everything returned to normal, great! But then I done a further download of the program again, and once again the problems began. Is there a good alternative Anti Virus program that is recommended?

Ive been searching everywhere for answers i have vista home premium with windows live care anti virus in perfect condition and it detected something trying to connect to the internet. This monster devil thing icon beside it told me right away...trouble and also the random numbers...By looking in the settings of my anti virus i found that i blocked 4 of them so far ive scanned with my anti virus 2 times and 3 times with spybot search and destroy AND ran a ccleaner.It's still there...I just want to get rid of this once and for all but what in God's name is it!

And the side effects of this virus were that I couldn't manage to get into my task manger, than my favorites disappeared (well it is on my favorites file but I can't use the favorites on the exploer. I read an article last week that the number one thing to do to protect your computer from malware is to run it in a "user" account. Equal to that is simply good behavior or sites on internet. Also to keep everything updated. I have always done these things. I run the latest Avast for my antivirus protection. I also have windows defender protection on and PC Tools Firewall Plus for firewall. Tonight I looked at drudge report and clicked on a link to a British newspaper. The article wasn't what I thought it was and it looked like a tabloid (Sun? closed so quick don't remember) and tabloid is not news so I quickly closed that window and went on to next links. My computer went slow after that. Just did not seem right. Restarted in safe mode and ran cCleaner computer clean and registry clean in both user and admin. Restarted and all my appearance settings are different. Runs slow or different. I remembered Windows Defender updated yesterday and the update always does a restore point. Tried to run System restore to restore to yesterday settings. After giving admin permission I saw the wait circle just disappear. It was like vista just ignored or canceled the start up of system restore. Every time I retried System restore it did the same thing or crashed my computer.
This smells like a virus. I go to main stream web sites only, run computer with (default limited) user account (use admin only when I need to make certain changes which is rare), Avast updates automatically multiple times a day. With these settings and behavior I thought I was bulletproof. I even read that $10,000 hacking prize winner Dino Dai Zovi and Rich Mogull both said Vista more secure than Apple Mac. I am currently scanning whole computer with a-squared Free. I will then scan with Avast, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, SUPERAntiSpyware, Windows Defender, and again with Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, in that order. What do I do if all these scans find nothing?
What do I do now? I never had a virus or malware before. Is it like the mumps, you want to get it as a child and not an adult? Does antivirus or antimalware remove bad stuff or does it just tell me I am infected and I need to reformat and rebuild system
A Trojan that Counter Spy has found, I have done 3 full scans and each time this miserable little blighter keeps coming back, and I don't know how else to get shot of it. here is a screenshot of what Counter Spy found, please ignore the Cookies one as I have told it to remove and it was successful, its just the Trojan that keeps coming back on each scan I do. As a sidenote, how do I post a screen of something that shows straight away instead of an attachment that you must click on?

Occasionally after when i would log on it would come up with a message from my virus scanner, saying : "Trojan tryin to enter", i would decline, but some how, eventually it must of got through. Now everytime i get to the screen to log in it straight away blue screens, occasionally it will let me into my user account but then blue screens a short while after.

I have AVG installed and I'm happy with it. I'm not sure if the above will conflict with AVG as it says MSE it is a virus and spyware scanner.
