I inadvertantly changed a .bat file association to open with Notepad and didn't uncheck the box for it to just run once under Notepad. Now I need that ..bat file to be able to run and can't get rid of the Notepad association.

I have went into my control panel and then into programs/default and that brought up a screen with names such Windows email on the left side of the screen and then at the bottom of the screen were two items listed which I have now forgotten what was listed; however, I clicked on both of them and found nothing to indicate what to do or where to go to next so please can you give me step by step instructions. All I am trying to do is open an attachment to an email and I receive the message I need to create an association in set association control panel.

"Right-click on the Documents file and choose properties. Select customize Use this folder as template: All Items Apply this template to subfolders" This list a fix for when located in specific area but for myself these files are not located it the documents folder and this fix does not work. If you feel this post would be better served elsewhere (security, network sharing)
I have a Problem with my Windows Vista Business Service Pack 2. I lost my menu "Notepad" in submenu, when I right-click on the Desktop. And to select "New". Normaly I have Notepad in submenu, but my Notebook was upgrate to Service Pack 2. After it finish, I never find Notpad. I have a picture to show. It hasn't Notpad in submenu on "New".
View 3 Replies View RelatedI use an ancient program to replace Windows native notepad. It is called 'Notpad'. Imagine typing that into a search, you get a suggestion that you meant 'Notepad' and no relevant info.The program is discontinued. However, it worked fine in Viats x64.
Until a few days ago. I cannot execute the program. It shows up in task manager. Clicking .txt files does nothimg. When I delete the notpad.exe and replace it with the original from zip, nothing.
I have a program that installs as a subfolder of the Program Files (x86) folder. Inside the main folder of the application is a file, SpecDat.xxx. The application, when run, needs to change this file. If I run this application from an administrator account, it comes back with a Error '53': File Not Found error. After some extended debugging by both me and the author, we discovered it wasn't updating this file.
When I tried to update this file manually using Notepad, Notepad wouldn't save it either. After more research, I ran the application by right-clicking and selecting "run as an administrator". Now it works, even though I'm always running it from an administrator account.
Is there anyway I can delete all the spaces in a document without going thru it one space at a time?

Even with no UAC enabled I can't rename C:Windowsotepad.exe to notepad.default.exe so I can replace it with NotePad++. So what's next if I am not an Administrator when logged in?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows Vista Home premium 64bit with 8gb ram and an hp c309a printer. My problem is that vista take a long time to print even just a 1 word paper using notepad. Also when i right click the printer in the printer folder it also take time to open the properties, aprox 3 minutes. So if i try to print it takes 3 minutes just to open the tab to click print and to select the printer i wish to use. The c309a is connected by usb cable, and i have tried re-installing the latest drivers and firmware for the printer as well as different usb cables and each of my usb ports. Yet for some reason there is a long 3+ minute pause when trying to print. I have also tried using the network feature and I still have same trouble. Also i have checked to make sure print spooling is on in services. HP has a utility to check for issues for both network and for usb, and the printer passes each test fine. I have done so many full uninstalls and installing of the software as well as the cable changes it is driving me nuts. I have been google'ing for days and days and have had no luck in fixing this issue. One last comment every time i try to print the applications I am using freeze for the 3+ minutes and the window application shows "application not responding", but after 3+ minutes i can finally select the printer and hit print, then at that point it freezes again for about 2 minutes and then prints. I have run multiple virus scans and multiple spyware detection programs and have also run online virus scans using bitdefend and trendmicro as well and i have no virus or spyware. I have also ran "hijackThis" and been told my system appears clean.

Now I know that it changed every link on my desktop and in my program files, etc...to go to the mail program. There is no reset to the default association. But then I installed WinRAR and regretfully (!!!) I chose WinRAR to associate with .iso files ... and I lost those useful options in the context menu.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe aftermath of a trojan attack (Vista Guardian) has resulted in the file association of exe files being lost and hence an inability to run exe files. I am quite convinced that the trojan is now dead, but I can't figure out how to fix the damage. If I could get into the registry I could fix it, but of course regedit is an exe file so I can't run it. I've tried tricks like running it from command line or from inside a batch file but with no joy. I have also made a copy and called it regedit.com. This looked romising as Vista asked for user permission to run the program, but then nothing. It gets killed off before it starts. I am not familiar with the particular machine, nor am I very familiar with Vista and I am now at a loss as to how to proceed.

I have clicked icons on the desktop. I have clicked programs on the start menu. In safe mode, I have downloaded a new version of Windows Installer, when Run is clicked the subject message appears.
When using Window Explorer, no .exe file has an icon associated with it! When I open Programs & Features in the Control Panel. Programs cannot be removed as the subject message appears.
I have been having problems running my accounts program (QuickBooks Regular 2006.) Having visited the Intuit website, I reinstalled the software again as they advised but the problem still remains so I think it is in fact an issue with Vista instead.
It brings up a dialog box that says "c:Program FilesIntuitQuickBooks RegularComponentsSales TaxSalesTax2523.xml" as the title and "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." I've looked in Control Panel ---> Default Programs on Vista and XML files don't seem to be associated with any program at all.
A friend installed the Powerpoint viewer. He's still having problems with the file association throwing an error when doubling clicking in Windows Mail. I seem to recall that there was a specific Vista Bug/Fix in this area. Any pointers?
