Went here and tried all the suggestions but the last one: Listed under "Registry Export Not Inserting Into Registry" dated 9/12/08. I need help with this - have tried all the suggestions here with the same results as James. I got as far as "Open Regedit.exe, from the File menu, choose Import and select the REG association fix." and cannot figure out how to do this.

The structure looks like this:

MiscStatus has a single subkey called 1
It (ie 1 ) cannot be opened, permission is denied. If I could delete 1, I could then delete the entire thing up to CLSID.
I have tried running regedit.exe as Administrator but that does not help. I am running Vista 64 SP2
CCleaner registry utility deleted the registry keys for cd optical drivenow vista does not reister my cd and dvd drives.CCleaner does not have a backup facility so cannot restore.The key 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 is missing.It is not in the registry.How can i get it back and get my drives working again?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI shall start from the beginning of why i need someones key for a registry entry, i have a creative webcam that will not work with vista, so after using it with XP, i got sick of having it on my hard drive, so i bought a cheap camera so i can use webcam on vista, unfortunately, when i came to install it, the camera installed but kept getting a code 10 driver could not load. So after a few trolling sessions to find a resolution, i found i had to edit a key in the registry, in this case : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} and delete the upper and lower values to allow driver load. after a restart, everything looked good, my camera is now loading up and drivers are working, but everytime i try and use it, i get this

I backup up data to a remote Western Digital drive using the Vista Backup verything seems fine. I selected to backup all files on the "Back Up Files" menu except TV Shows, Compressed Files and Additional Files. My question is, If this hard drive dies and no longer lets me access it (which is what happened to my last XP computer) can I save registry and all other files that will let me restore to another hard drive with the least amount of hassle? Also is there anyway I can save profiles and passwords and the like. Ideally, I'd like to backup my entire hard drive and be able reinstall it to a new hard drive if this one dies. When my XP hard drive died I had my documents saved but had a real problem with this other information.

It used to work really well with XP and never did XP not start after WinDoctor,it only speeded the pc up,in my experience.Im reluctant to "try" any other registry fixing software,unless there are some well known Vista registry fixing software that someone can recommend in here?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have encountered a very strange problem. I have downloaded two exe files recently. When I doubleclick on the exe file, instead of the application installing, what should happen but Word of all things opens with, in the case of one of them a box headed 'File Conversion - arw5setup.msi', and a similar wording in the second, asking me to select the encoding that makes my document readable. Whatever I select, the exe file then opens as a text file.
(The reference to an msi file is baffling as both files were exe files.) When it happened the first time I thought it was a corrupt file, but when it happened again it has to be that there is something wrong with my system. Is this a virus? Spybot has just come up with a clean slate ...
I inadvertantly changed a .bat file association to open with Notepad and didn't uncheck the box for it to just run once under Notepad. Now I need that ..bat file to be able to run and can't get rid of the Notepad association.

Win 7 compatible - have used this and deleted all 1200 entries it found. It makes a backup - been running for several hours and reboots with no probs. Also working fine so far on my Vista x64 and Win 7 x86 installs. After cleaning you need to shut the app. and reopen it for it to find it's backups. (Easy to find them by hand - it can compress them to.7z files, too ). Have used their regdefrag a lot - identical scans and results to the Auslogics and Glary versions- so use whichever defragger you already have. WARNING: not recommended to defrag registry across drives.

Select customize Use this folder as template: All Items Apply this template to subfolders" This list a fix for when located in specific area but for myself these files are not located it the documents folder and this fix does not work. I have a Problem with my Windows Vista Business Service Pack 2. I lost my menu "Notepad" in submenu, when I right-click on the Desktop. And to select "New". Normaly I have Notepad in submenu, but my Notebook was upgrate to Service Pack 2. After it finish, I never find Notpad. I have a picture to show. It hasn't Notpad in submenu on "New".

View 9 Replies View RelatedI use an ancient program to replace Windows native notepad. It is called 'Notpad'. Imagine typing that into a search, you get a suggestion that you meant 'Notepad' and no relevant info.The program is discontinued. However, it worked fine in Viats x64.
Until a few days ago. I cannot execute the program. It shows up in task manager. Clicking .txt files does nothimg. When I delete the notpad.exe and replace it with the original from zip, nothing.
I have a program that installs as a subfolder of the Program Files (x86) folder. Inside the main folder of the application is a file, SpecDat.xxx. The application, when run, needs to change this file. If I run this application from an administrator account, it comes back with a Error '53': File Not Found error. After some extended debugging by both me and the author, we discovered it wasn't updating this file.
When I tried to update this file manually using Notepad, Notepad wouldn't save it either. After more research, I ran the application by right-clicking and selecting "run as an administrator". Now it works, even though I'm always running it from an administrator account.
Is there anyway I can delete all the spaces in a document without going thru it one space at a time?

2. I have many old graphics tutorials in HTM format which I downloaded some years ago when I was using Windows 98. They opened in Windows 98.
3. I can't open them with Vista. If I use FILE > OPEN in Internet Explorer, I get the HTML code. If I double click on the file in Windows Explorer, I get a message saying that Windows Internet Explorer is not responding.
4. I have a similar problem with HTM files which I have recently downloaded from the internet news groups. Are there some settings or updates to correct this problem.
I ordered some files and they came in rar and zip format. I know nothing about them. I downloaded winrar to read them. I guess I'm not using it right or something. All I get is codes and stuff. I need to open these files so that I can read them in plain english. I want to use these files on my web-site.

I am not sure if he is running the Business edition, but could someone tell me what utility that ships with Vista could be used to view the files? I know in XP you could even use Paint, but I don't know what utilities come with Vista. If there is such a utility, is it in both the Vista Home and Business editions? This situation has been discovered recently, and I don't know if it has ever worked, just in case SP1 might be involved. I don't even know if he has that update.

To open this file windows needs to know what programs you want to use to open it etc etc It then gives me 2 options either to USE the web service to find what will open it

select a program from a list of installed programs. This puzzles me because the programs im trying to open like SKYPE are in themselves the programs that open by themselves. What can i do to fix this?
