Can someone give me a blow by blow method of deleting registry entries. I am stuck and tried all "possible" combinations of editing permissions but nothing seems to work. What is the secret formula to this?
The structure looks like this: HKLMSoftwareClassesCLSID{ very long key}MiscStatus1 MiscStatus has a single subkey called 1 It (ie 1 ) cannot be opened, permission is denied. If I could delete 1, I could then delete the entire thing up to CLSID.
I have tried running regedit.exe as Administrator but that does not help. I am running Vista 64 SP2
Went here and tried all the suggestions but the last one: Listed under "Registry Export Not Inserting Into Registry" dated 9/12/08. I need help with this - have tried all the suggestions here with the same results as James. I got as far as "Open Regedit.exe, from the File menu, choose Import and select the REG association fix." and cannot figure out how to do this.
CCleaner registry utility deleted the registry keys for cd optical drivenow vista does not reister my cd and dvd drives.CCleaner does not have a backup facility so cannot restore. The key 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 is missing. It is not in the registry. How can i get it back and get my drives working again?
I shall start from the beginning of why i need someones key for a registry entry, i have a creative webcam that will not work with vista, so after using it with XP, i got sick of having it on my hard drive, so i bought a cheap camera so i can use webcam on vista, unfortunately, when i came to install it, the camera installed but kept getting a code 10 driver could not load. So after a few trolling sessions to find a resolution, i found i had to edit a key in the registry, in this case : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} and delete the upper and lower values to allow driver load. after a restart, everything looked good, my camera is now loading up and drivers are working, but everytime i try and use it, i get this
my Recent Items list has disappeared. I've been to the Start Menu properties window, and under Privacy, I only have a single entry, "Store and display a list of recently opened programs". The corresponding entry for documents is missing. Furthermore, although I can check the one-and-only tick-box, the setting doesn't hold, and it's unchecked again next time I open Properties. I have a Recent Items folder (with the correct icon), deep in my User folder, but it's empty. I tried restoring the desktop.ini file from an early disk image, but although the restore appears to work according to the image program, the folder remains stubbornly empty. It's as though some system setting registry value has been set prohibiting the use or display of this Recent Items folder.
So today when I go to plug in my headphones into my laptop, the video I was trying to watch today still is playing through the main speakers. I tried multiple pairs of headphones and it still didn't work. The volume coming from the speakers doesn't even shut off, it just keeps playing even though I have headphones plugged in.
I'm getting no sound out of my speakers(2.1), when I plug them into the green jack on the rear panel it says that I have plugged in the pink and black jacks, but neither of those are plugged in. I've spent hours on the phone with HP and looking on the internet but i can't find any solutions. I've updated every possible driver. Every now and then I can somehow get sound by messing with settings and restarting or doing a power drain or a million other things, but as soon as I restart the computer they aren't working again, and the same solution never seems to work twice. Also, when the sound does work, it still says the black and pink are plugged in.
1) Headset plugged into front jacks is not working and it looks like my PC hasn't even sensed the headset bcos I expected it to it ask me about what I have plugged into the jack if it was not sure.
2) Rear speakers are working fine for playbacks. Rear jack microphone is working for recording but the issue is the audio being recorded cannot be heard from speakers. After I stop recording I can play and hear the recording but not while I am recording it.
Has someone faced this and has some solutions for me? Let me make it clear that same hardware works absolutely fine when the OS was XP. I had a fresh Vista install couple of days back on hardware with Intel motherboard, Intel core 2 duo 946GZ Express chipset. I have every possible (also all optional) latest update for the OS. I have installed latest drivers meant for Vista (audio and graphics accelerators) downloaded and installed yesterday from Intel site.
Ive got a problem where the mic is only picked up once it is unplugged and plugged back in again. Ive updated the drivers and put a splitter in the mic jack to try and stop the socket from wearing down. The problem is I have to remove the splitter and plug that back in for it to pick it up now. Its an Asus P5N-E SLI 650i Socket 775 PCI-E Onboard Audio ATX Motherboard running onboard sound with realtek drivers.
I have a GW M6307 with Vista HP 32bit. The headphone jack has suddenly stopped working. I have done a restore back to when it was working..uninstalled and reinstalled audio drivers without results. The IDT control panel indicates something else is plugged into the jack both for the mic and HP. I also reinstalled the MS audio drivers that came with the machine. I cannot find any default anywhere to change any setting regarding this. The laptop speakers work but the default to HP when plugged in does not. The speakers conitnue to play with no sound in the HP.There are no indications of a loose connection and the laptop sits on a desk most of the time.
I have an Asus G 50vt, a few days ago I had it hooked up to a stereo system and tripped on the wire connected to the Audio jack. The Headphone jack now has half of the head stuck inside and I was unable to remove it. I am wondering if there is a way to reassign the headphone output to the Line in or Mic in jacks?
I've been infected with Winspyprotect on one of my networked machines which is a rogue anti-spyware program similar to Spy Axe. I tells you falsely that your system is infected and then try's to coerce you into buying the program by continuous pop-ups.I've done a bit of research on the net on the other machine and found several sites which claim they can remove it, but as they're all .exe files I have no way of knowing if they're genuine or if they're a trick which will infect the other machine.
I manually deleted an .dll which was infected (according to my anti virus software), the file was somewhere in AppData/Local, and its tag was "byXPGWpn.dll". Now every time I log on to Windows Vista a warning dialog appears informing that the file wasn't found. I restore the system to a previous point, but nothing happened. What does this file do? Should I replace it? If so: Ho do I get it?
if i backed up my pictures on DVD at a time when i was infected with malware and I then clean install vista, will i reinfect myself if i try to put pictures back on my computer from that DVD?
WARNING: only for advanced users who like to clean the registry. Quicksys regcleaner normally $25 free - only 4hrs left from here: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/
Win 7 compatible - have used this and deleted all 1200 entries it found. It makes a backup - been running for several hours and reboots with no probs. Also working fine so far on my Vista x64 and Win 7 x86 installs. After cleaning you need to shut the app. and reopen it for it to find it's backups. (Easy to find them by hand - it can compress them to.7z files, too ). Have used their regdefrag a lot - identical scans and results to the Auslogics and Glary versions- so use whichever defragger you already have. WARNING: not recommended to defrag registry across drives.
recently my pc was infected with a virus that kept opening pop-ups saying i had virus' and to remove it, i had to buy their software, i ignored all that stuff and i have HOPEFULLY removed it all.but now.. my explorer.exe doesn't open when i start my computer, this happened to me before , but i forgot how to do it, all i remember was something on regedit and renaming or chaning something...
I've been trying to remove a trojan horse generic14.ADOZ for a while. I've tried scanning with malwarebytes, AVG, VIPRE. That didn't work so I backed up my data and did a complete reinstall. Upon startup, I performed an AVG scan and it came up with the same unremovable trojans I had before reinstallation.

I got my laptop from my school, and it's Windows Vista Business. After 4 months using my laptop and using internet explorer, IE started to mess up! Everytime i opened my homepage: Google, it will redirect to a dating site. And every sort of pop ups appeared... the pop up blocker were turned on, homepage was set to google.co.uk, security setting was at the highest, blocked all cookies, and all sort of things i did. Also, it makes my startup , and performance become 6X time slower than usual. After doing some searching on google, i found this tutorial site, there's a tutorial that exactly i have, it says that my User Account/profile is infected or something, it says to delete the account that's infected. I backed up all my files, and created a new admin account, and deleted that "infected" account.
It really worked, IE was fine, performance and such. But that was just temporarily, after 2 days, All the pop ups and stuff come back. So, i deleted the admin account i'am using, BUT I FORGOT TO MAKE ANOTHER ADMIN ACCOUNT!! And i'am still using a guest account. I can't install, create a user account, use windows update, and all the admin Privileges. There is one Administrator account, but i don't know the password. Oh the laptops is Toshiba, and i think the admin account is created by toshiba. Is there another way of retrieving, or whatever method to be an admin for my laptop again WITHOUT reinstalling my Windows Vista.
I am using this program to clean up my registry and it seems to work fine except the errors keep coming back. I can do a scan, clean up all the errors and then shut down and start up and I have a new 20 registry error list and most or all of the errors relate to "bad path for the value" and its windows files that seem to be at fault. I don't understand why Microsoft operating system would create registry errors on a startup, before anything has been installed etc. is RegistryBooster misleading me or what. I am running win7 but it did the same thing on vista home premium so I think the question is valid for this group.
I've been using Windows Mail for 18 months without any significant problems.
Now, when I delete an email from my "Inbox," it does NOT appear in my "Deleted Items" folder. It just seems to disappear. I did read many of the earlier posts and have tried the suggestions. I've gone to Tools>Options>Advanced>Maintenance - the "Empty messages from the Deleted Items folder on exit" is NOT checked. I've also gone to Current View "Show all messages" - that's identified/checked. Is there something else that I can do? I'd appreciate any suggestions. This is the first time I've used the Discussion Group, so I hope that I'm doing this correctly.
Is this true behaviour of Vista that if one user got infected with malware/virus it don't propagate on the rest of the users? I already fixed two vista computer with the same behaviour, the other users are not infected.
I turned on my computer the other day and an automatic download started to update my Verizon Internet Security Suiter (FIOS). I started a scan of my computer with the update. The new Security Suite update supposedly found 29,000+ infected files with a virus named Trojan-Downloader.Win32.VB.dck? The weird thing is - When I look for the files that are supposedly infected - or the folder that these files supposedly exist in I can't find it. The virus appears to have created a folder named " ' " on my hard drive - but when I look for this folder I can't find it. Even if I view hidden folders. My computer doesn't appear to be running strangly like it is infected. But the virus scan says it is.
Data Protection is a counterfeit application which pretends to be a legitimate security tool. It is also from the same rogue family as Digital Protection, Your Protection, User Protection, Dr. Guard and Paladin Antivirus. The trojan based software starts its activities as soon as it installs onto your computer. Malware has no ability to detect and terminate the parasite. It only gains that user lose their vigilance and would buy a registered version of Data Protection application.
This is a fraud and dangerous for your computer. Behind an offer stands bad people who will use your money for malicious intentions. This application is not worth spending your money. As any malware this one will scan your computer automatically and will show fake results. You should ignore it. Do not fall for this blatant scam. Data Protection can also redirect your web browser to deceptive web pages that advertises “full” version of the security tool. Do not buy it, but choose decent anti-spyware application and terminate Data Protection upon detection. - the conclusion is that Malware bytes does remove it,, you need to download the lastest malware byte or update the one you got. Everytime Windows Vista Home Premium starts up I receive this error message: "Error in C:Windowssystem32spoolDRIVERSW32X863LXCFtime.dll Missing entry: RunDLLEntry"
Dose anyone knows if they make a printer cable: I received a new lab top and it didn't come with the older printer jack on the computer. I guess I need to use one of the usb ports? My Epson 660 still works I hate the idea of getting a new printer when my old one works.
