Trying To Delete Stubborn Registry Entry

Dec 16, 2009

Can someone give me a blow by blow method of deleting registry entries. I am stuck and tried all "possible" combinations of editing permissions but nothing seems to work. What is the secret formula to this?

The structure looks like this:
HKLMSoftwareClassesCLSID{ very long key}MiscStatus1
MiscStatus has a single subkey called 1
It (ie 1 ) cannot be opened, permission is denied. If I could delete 1, I could then delete the entire thing up to CLSID.

I have tried running regedit.exe as Administrator but that does not help. I am running Vista 64 SP2

Registry Entry Creative Webcam Will Not Work

May 12, 2009

I shall start from the beginning of why i need someones key for a registry entry, i have a creative webcam that will not work with vista, so after using it with XP, i got sick of having it on my hard drive, so i bought a cheap camera so i can use webcam on vista, unfortunately, when i came to install it, the camera installed but kept getting a code 10 driver could not load. So after a few trolling sessions to find a resolution, i found i had to edit a key in the registry, in this case : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} and delete the upper and lower values to allow driver load. after a restart, everything looked good, my camera is now loading up and drivers are working, but everytime i try and use it, i get this

Registry Backup Settings?

Sep 12, 2009

I figured I'm gonna have many questions so I signed up. Here's my first one. I just purchased Uniblue's Registry Booster 2009. I ran a registry scan, and my system has over 300 errors. I'm trying to clean it but this application says "Your system settings prohibit you from doing a registry backup" when I click the "Clean registry button." How do I change those settings? Can someone give me detailed instructions on how to adjust system settings to enable registry backups?

Deleted Backup Files

Mar 23, 2008

I started a backup on my computer but then it stopped because i didn't have enough space. I found the files and deleted them because it was slowing down my computer. After I did this, I read something that said don't delete backup files because it could potentially create problems with the backup and restore process in the future. Does anyone know how i can find out if I deleted an important file/files?

Registry: Cannot Find One For Vista, Activate The Backup

There is a link for activities on the Registry for XP and previous Windows, but I cannot find one for Vista. Will someone (with more knowhow than I) please advise me either what is the link, or tell me how to make a backup of the Registry. If I make a backup and then whilst removing unwanted files make a mistake, how do I activate the Backup? Will the activation of backup also restore the removed files?

B & R List Deleted Backup Files

May 7, 2009

Vista backup and restore is setup to automatically create a backup every Friday night at 9:00 PM to an external disk. After a month I no longer need some of the older backup files so I deleted two via windows explorer because there is no way that I've found to delete old backup files using the backup and restore center. Now when I go into the restore files (advanced) screen that list the available backup files on my external disk, I see the two backup files I deleted. The question I have is, what needs to be done so that Vista backup and restore does not list backup files that have been deleted?

Restore Points Deleted

May 29, 2008

All my restore points are getting deleted on every re-boot, accompanied by volsnap event ID 25 "The shadow copies... were deleted because the shadow copy storage could not grow in time." I have seen a few mentions of this problem elsewhere, but no fix. I have tried turning system restore on and off, with no effect. Restore points are created with no problems, but invariably deleted at the next boot.

System is a rather odd dual-boot of Vista HP with XP: an Acer Aspire, which runs XP on a hidden partition exclusively to run Acer's own Arcade media application in an "instant-on" mode: on exiting this application, XP hibernates, then resumes when a special hotkey is pressed (as far as I can see it never reboots XP). But the Vista restore point deletions happen whether or not XP is actually run. So I can't apply any of the usual fixes. fix and/or explain why this might, after all, be a symptom of the dual-boot problem even though XP is not actually running?

Deleted System Restore Triggers

Jun 12, 2008

I was deleting the history in the task scheduler for the automatic creation of restore points. As it turns out, I deleted the triggers. Both the one that launches a restore point creation once a day and the one that creates a restore point at system startup. Is there a guide on how to recreate the triggers. I fooled around with it. The very first thing I tried to do was a system restore but that failed for some reason.

Since I have no need to have all my desktop shortcuts messing up the arrangement of my fave webpages so I went ahead and deleted it. Warning bells should have gone off in me head when File Operations was asking for permission but I persisted. And now all the files that I have kept on my desktop are gone i.e. pics, pdf, resumes!! I have checked the Recycle Bin but they are not there either. I tried using a software that downloaded online -> WinUndelete but it made me more confused.

Auslogics Registry Defragment And System Restore Just Don't Play Well Together

Apr 22, 2008

I know that few of you bother with Restore Points. It's something I play around with for the experience. But I have found out through two reinstalls and more BSODs than I can count that on "my" machine SP1, Auslogics reg. defrag and System Restore just don't play well together! The only way I could get my system to not crash on boot today was to start in safe, uninstall A.R.D. and restore to the only point I had left.

Can Save Registry And Files For Restore To Another Hard Drive

Aug 6, 2009

I backup up data to a remote Western Digital drive using the Vista Backup verything seems fine. I selected to backup all files on the "Back Up Files" menu except TV Shows, Compressed Files and Additional Files. My question is, If this hard drive dies and no longer lets me access it (which is what happened to my last XP computer) can I save registry and all other files that will let me restore to another hard drive with the least amount of hassle? Also is there anyway I can save profiles and passwords and the like. Ideally, I'd like to backup my entire hard drive and be able reinstall it to a new hard drive if this one dies. When my XP hard drive died I had my documents saved but had a real problem with this other information.

Complete PC Backup & Restore

May 26, 2008

I want to build a PC. I've browsed around the 'net looking for information on Complete PC Backup. The only thing that I've found on the 'net explains how to do a backup & restore. I've browsed around the Microsoft Vista discussion groups & found out that it is possible to do incremental (I wish that it would do differential instead of incremental backups.) as well as full backups.

Can I give the backup files names or does Windows? For example, before I install certain software can I give the backup a file name such as "before installijng XYZ software"? The way I understand it with incremental backups, the full backup has to be restored first & then the incremental backups are restored next starting with the oldest & proceeding to the latest. Since the Complete PC Backup does incremental backups, does the Restore wizard restore the incremental backups in order?
