Deleted Items Do Not Show In Recycle Bin

Oct 8, 2008

I have just bought a new pc with Vista Home Premium x64. Problem is that the recycle bin won't show deleted items. The bin just looks empty. If I click on empty recycle bin it prompts me if I want to delete these 16 (or whatever number) items, so they must be there but will not display. I have tried displaying hidden files and checked in recycle bin properties that files are not deleted rather than placed in the bin to no avail. If I click restore items nothing happens.

Restore Points Deleted

May 29, 2008

All my restore points are getting deleted on every re-boot, accompanied by volsnap event ID 25 "The shadow copies... were deleted because the shadow copy storage could not grow in time." I have seen a few mentions of this problem elsewhere, but no fix. I have tried turning system restore on and off, with no effect. Restore points are created with no problems, but invariably deleted at the next boot.

System is a rather odd dual-boot of Vista HP with XP: an Acer Aspire, which runs XP on a hidden partition exclusively to run Acer's own Arcade media application in an "instant-on" mode: on exiting this application, XP hibernates, then resumes when a special hotkey is pressed (as far as I can see it never reboots XP). But the Vista restore point deletions happen whether or not XP is actually run. So I can't apply any of the usual fixes. fix and/or explain why this might, after all, be a symptom of the dual-boot problem even though XP is not actually running?

Deleted System Restore Triggers

Jun 12, 2008

I was deleting the history in the task scheduler for the automatic creation of restore points. As it turns out, I deleted the triggers. Both the one that launches a restore point creation once a day and the one that creates a restore point at system startup. Is there a guide on how to recreate the triggers. I fooled around with it. The very first thing I tried to do was a system restore but that failed for some reason.

'Desktop' Folder Deleted: Restore?

Jul 27, 2009

I use Vista Home Basic and out of nowhere I realised there was a 'Desktop' folder in the Favorites tab on IE. Since I have no need to have all my desktop shortcuts messing up the arrangement of my fave webpages so I went ahead and deleted it. Warning bells should have gone off in me head when File Operations was asking for permission but I persisted. And now all the files that I have kept on my desktop are gone i.e. pics, pdf, resumes!! I have checked the Recycle Bin but they are not there either. I tried using a software that downloaded online -> WinUndelete but it made me more confused.

Use System Restore To Restore Back To Certain Restore Points?

May 26, 2008

Why can't I use system restore to restore back to certain restore points? I was only successful twice with it. When my laptap was new and when I used it after re-formatting my hard drive. On all occassions after those two instances I can never restore back to any restore point. It always says that "unspecified error" line. If Microsoft doesn't know what happend, how could I. Why did they bother putting system restore if it doesn't work all the time anyway. It gives you a false sense of security.
