View 7 Replies View RelatedI have just bought a new pc with Vista Home Premium x64. Problem is that the recycle bin won't show deleted items. The bin just looks empty. If I click on empty recycle bin it prompts me if I want to delete these 16 (or whatever number) items, so they must be there but will not display. I have tried displaying hidden files and checked in recycle bin properties that files are not deleted rather than placed in the bin to no avail. If I click restore items nothing happens.

I was trying to de-clutter my desktop and I got too happy. I accidentally deleted my recycle bin icon that sits on the desktop.
My question--is there any way I can get that back, or is it just gone?
I just bought my 'puter a few days ago and it had this problem. If anyone is still having this same problem, here's how I fixed mine...Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup Then just check Recycle Bin and run the program.
View 0 Replies View RelatedThe Windows Vista Home Premium on my new ASUS laptop has aquired a new form of weirdness lately. I keep it updated as the updates from Microsoft come in, and for about three weeks now, I see the following two erratic behaviours: Files I delete from my desktop return from oblivion upon the next reboot. Doesn't matter if I throw them in the bin, clear out the bin afterwards, or even use shift-delete to bypass the bin altogether: next reboot I have about a 50-50 change of seeing them pop up on my desktop again. And it seems to happen somewhere around the time the boot process is complete. I have not tested this in other directories, but will do so if you think it is relevant.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI deleted the user account, then realized that the files were not sent to the recycle bin. I also can see the hidden file, its size, and the name of the file but the warning states it cannot be opened because the path has been changed or altered. I still see that the user has many files, and I do not seem to have gained any disk space...is it still possible to get these back.
I know when police agencies are searching for files on the computer they have software that recovers a lot of evidence...is there any out there that I can use?
As I have been writing on here before. I am trying to clean it up and get some more space. How in the world do you see what is on there???? I have been all over my computer and deleted a lot of junk files, but not gaining much space back. What is on this thing----where is the list of what is there???

I've been using Windows Mail for 18 months without any significant problems.
Now, when I delete an email from my "Inbox," it does NOT appear in my "Deleted Items" folder. It just seems to disappear. I did read many of the earlier posts and have tried the suggestions. I've gone to Tools>Options>Advanced>Maintenance - the "Empty messages from the Deleted Items folder on exit" is NOT checked. I've also gone to Current View "Show all messages" - that's identified/checked. Is there something else that I can do? I'd appreciate any suggestions. This is the first time I've used
the Discussion Group, so I hope that I'm doing this correctly.
I turned my machie on this morning and my recylce bin has gone. re-booted, still not there. Restored to yesterday (when it was there) and still no bin.
I have a new computer with Vista. My recycle keeps emptying itself. I have increased the size to 294940 but it is still doing this.

View 9 Replies View RelatedVista Recycle Bin not emptying. The Recycle Bin appears to be functioning correctly, in that the context menu option to 'Empty Recycle Bin' greys out, the icon changes, and even the $RECYCLE.BIN folder (and subfolder 'Recycle Bin') show empty (hidden and operating system files not hidden) with total size around 20K. However, when running a full Windows Defender scan (with an "empty" Recycle Bin), a large list of files are lsited as being scanned within the Recycle Bin, within a sub-folder (not otherwise shown) corresponding to the HKEY_USERS key 'S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxx' (actual key replaced by x's).
When used Explorer to go directly to folder 'C:$Recycle.BinS-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxx' I am taken to 'C:$Recycle.Bin ecycle Bin'. which is of course empty. If I manually delete the Recycle Bin a number of folders and files are listed for confirmation to be deleted, which also are not listed within Explorer (or on Recycle Bin properties). The Recycle Bin is automatically recreated, and the hidden files seem to disappear, but the problem again manifests itself over time. Why are these file not being deleted by emptying the Recycle Bin, why can I not see them, and how can I delete them routinely?
