View 7 Replies View RelatedI have just bought a new pc with Vista Home Premium x64. Problem is that the recycle bin won't show deleted items. The bin just looks empty. If I click on empty recycle bin it prompts me if I want to delete these 16 (or whatever number) items, so they must be there but will not display. I have tried displaying hidden files and checked in recycle bin properties that files are not deleted rather than placed in the bin to no avail. If I click restore items nothing happens.

My question--is there any way I can get that back, or is it just gone?
I just bought my 'puter a few days ago and it had this problem. If anyone is still having this same problem, here's how I fixed mine...Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup Then just check Recycle Bin and run the program.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI turned on my computer today and instead of starting up it told me something similar to "there is a missing or corrupt file and windows could not start" and then it told me I had to put in my vista disk and try to repair the problem. I put in the disk, but couldnt get the computer to run the disk from the startup menus. I then went got frustrated and clicked on "recovery partition", where it told me I could re-download vista. I hoped at some point I would be able to repair my existing vista instead of installing a new one, but instead this new vista seemed to completely override my old vista, and then it told me all my old files were put into a "windows.old" file. Then after logging in it told me I had to re-buy vista, which i didn't do. When I logged in using the limited version of vista all of my files were gone and it seemed like all of my existing settings were erased. I was even disconnected from the internet. I'm wondering if there is some way I can repair and recover my old OS and get rid of this trial version.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a laptop last Christmas and it had various pre-installed stuff that I did not want and uninstalled them. A few weeks later and I have been trying use the windows media center remote to watch tv on my Toshiba Qosimio G40.
So far I have'nt found it and I think I may of unintentionally uninstalled it. I have been to Microsoft web page and have been looking to try and download the package or drivers for Windows Media Center. Unfortunately I have not found it on their web site. I could just reinstalled the recovery disc that I came with the laptop but that would be inconvienient as I have a load of sofware and files I would have to reinstall ect after the recovery. Does any one know how I can get Windows Media Center back on my laptop without having to use the recovery cd? Is there somewhere where I can download the package again?

View 4 Replies View Relatedi went to open a zip file by right clicking on it, choosing "open with" and then "Choose Default Program." Accidentally, I chose Word. Now, I can't seem to change this. I can't find an option anywhere to get rid of this, nor is it showing me the "extract" options anymore when I right click. None of the options in the Start Menus Default Programs tab seem to do anything of use for me either.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using Windows Mail for 18 months without any significant problems.
Now, when I delete an email from my "Inbox," it does NOT appear in my "Deleted Items" folder. It just seems to disappear. I did read many of the earlier posts and have tried the suggestions. I've gone to Tools>Options>Advanced>Maintenance - the "Empty messages from the Deleted Items folder on exit" is NOT checked. I've also gone to Current View "Show all messages" - that's identified/checked. Is there something else that I can do? I'd appreciate any suggestions. This is the first time I've used
the Discussion Group, so I hope that I'm doing this correctly.
I turned my machie on this morning and my recylce bin has gone. re-booted, still not there. Restored to yesterday (when it was there) and still no bin.
I have a new computer with Vista. My recycle keeps emptying itself. I have increased the size to 294940 but it is still doing this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running windows vista and I deleated my recycle bin off my desk top I did a system restore point and that did not work how do I get it back?
View 9 Replies View RelatedVista Recycle Bin not emptying. The Recycle Bin appears to be functioning correctly, in that the context menu option to 'Empty Recycle Bin' greys out, the icon changes, and even the $RECYCLE.BIN folder (and subfolder 'Recycle Bin') show empty (hidden and operating system files not hidden) with total size around 20K. However, when running a full Windows Defender scan (with an "empty" Recycle Bin), a large list of files are lsited as being scanned within the Recycle Bin, within a sub-folder (not otherwise shown) corresponding to the HKEY_USERS key 'S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxx' (actual key replaced by x's).
When used Explorer to go directly to folder 'C:$Recycle.BinS-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxx' I am taken to 'C:$Recycle.Bin ecycle Bin'. which is of course empty. If I manually delete the Recycle Bin a number of folders and files are listed for confirmation to be deleted, which also are not listed within Explorer (or on Recycle Bin properties). The Recycle Bin is automatically recreated, and the hidden files seem to disappear, but the problem again manifests itself over time. Why are these file not being deleted by emptying the Recycle Bin, why can I not see them, and how can I delete them routinely?
