WM And Signatures: Saving Registry Keys, Windows Backup

Feb 22, 2009

Tried backing up windows mail settings and restoring after a clean install. three methods, all the same results.

1 saving registry keys.
2. Windows backup.
3. Widows easy transfer.

Everything is fine but the signatures. They look grayed out and when I click on them Windows mail crashes immediately.

Cannot Read Registry Keys Activiation

Feb 6, 2009

I have a program that worked successfully for quite some time and just recently it stopped working. I tracked it down to a reading of a registry key located in HKLMSoftware where I get an error from the Win32 API `RegOpenKeyEx' which returns with a value of 2 (that is to say there is no such entries). But there is such an entry so this is very puzzling. What is happening? Why was it working before and not now? The same program works fine under another vista machine which is more or less configured the same way.Of course disabling UAC works but that's out of the question.

Upgrading Left Drivers, Programs, Registry Keys

Aug 29, 2008

I purchased the Upgrade version. I have XP service pack 3 installed right now. I know there's a work around that allows the upgrade version to be used for a clean install. I was wondering if upgrading the normal way over XP will basically be the same as a clean install. Will it wipe my drive clean or will there still be remnants left such as drivers, programs, registry keys, etc? Also, if I ever wanted to do a clean install, which shouldn't be a problem legally since I own XP, would it basically be the same as doing so with the full version? Another question I have is about manually maintaining my system. I've read that Vista isn't like XP in that I don't need registry cleaners or spyware cleaners. Is this true? I have a habit of using these things frequently to keep my comp as speedy as possible.

Not much, just Auslogics Boost Speed, AVG, and zone alarm. Those are my mainstays. I also have ad-aware and CCleaner just in case. Would AVG and zone alarm still be good programs to use? I find that they do very well in keeping my system protected.I must admit, I was among those that talked about Vista like it was crap and I haven't even tried it much. It was mostly from what I've heard. It wasn't until I read that article at tweakguides.com, ( TweakGuides.com - Vista Annoyances Resolved ) about Vista that I decided to take the plunge and go for it. Made me feel like an idiot but it gave me the true info without the BS.

Setting Up Multiple Signatures In Windows Mail

Mar 14, 2009

I have tried unsuccessfully to set up different signatures for the five email addresses I use. These addresses are used for five different interests. However I try I still get the signature for the default address whenever I click "Create Mail." The default email address is shown, with the default signature. When I change the outgoing email address in the address bar the signature shown is still the same. So I tried to use the Insert feature by unticking "always use signature etc" and clicking "insert" on the toolbar of the message. However the option to add signature is always greyed out.

Registry Backup Settings?

Sep 12, 2009

I figured I'm gonna have many questions so I signed up. Here's my first one. I just purchased Uniblue's Registry Booster 2009. I ran a registry scan, and my system has over 300 errors. I'm trying to clean it but this application says "Your system settings prohibit you from doing a registry backup" when I click the "Clean registry button." How do I change those settings? Can someone give me detailed instructions on how to adjust system settings to enable registry backups?

How Do Get Signatures Email

Apr 9, 2010

I have a simple question. I have been using Windows Mail Desktop for awhile. I love it, except for two things. The one problem I have is when I am on the internet and there is a link to an email, if you click on it it brings up a window for sending an email. My signature does not show in that. How do I get it to show in that? I looked at all the options and I didn't see where I could do that. My sigature only shows when I click new messages, or replying. Not when I open up an email window from a link on the internet. How do I do that?

Also, I asked this before but is there a way that they are going to update windows mail and do where they auto fill out the email addresses when you are typing them out? I know right now they only store 31? Is there a way they are going to do more??

Windows Can Not Find Keys

Apr 13, 2008

I am running windows Vista 32 bit, and everything was working great until I uninstalled Norton 360. Following uninstall, my DVD drive no longer worked (I corrected that issue) and my network no longer works. I am wired into a router, and also wireless on the same computer. Bother worked well, until the uninstall. Now, I can't even see the router, even though I'm wired to it. The wireless connection successfully connects to the router (or so it seems), but also cannot see the router.I suspect there is a registry error (or key corruption), but cannot find which keys are corrupt.Has anyone ever had this problem? Again, I corrected the DVD issue, but cannot identify the network issue.

Max. Size Saving Windows Mail

Oct 10, 2009

I there any max. size for the Windows Mail? Presently I have 1.4 GB and around 11000 files and 400 folders in my Windows Mail and not surprising it's a little bit slow when starting. However it works fine and fast. Could I continue forever let's in a couple of years having 140 GB and 1000000 files and 10000 folders? Don't know how Windows Mail uses memory RAM and sidefiles when opened. Is that a limiting factor? I'm using Vista 32 bit with 2 GB RAM.

Remap Windows Shortcut Keys?

I am wondering if there is a way to remap the Windows shortcut keys. A specific example is the [Win][E] opens Windows Explorer but I would like that key to open a different file manager. I have tried different key tweaking programs and the ones I have tried do not allow changing a combination of keys such as the Win key together with another key. I would like something that would also work in Windows XP.

Quicksys Registry Cleaner: Not Recommended To Defragment Registry Across Drives

Feb 27, 2009

WARNING: only for advanced users who like to clean the registry. Quicksys regcleaner normally $25 free - only 4hrs left from here: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/

Win 7 compatible - have used this and deleted all 1200 entries it found. It makes a backup - been running for several hours and reboots with no probs. Also working fine so far on my Vista x64 and Win 7 x86 installs. After cleaning you need to shut the app. and reopen it for it to find it's backups. (Easy to find them by hand - it can compress them to.7z files, too ). Have used their regdefrag a lot - identical scans and results to the Auslogics and Glary versions- so use whichever defragger you already have. WARNING: not recommended to defrag registry across drives.

Windows Mail Folders: Backup Mail, Not Using Vista Backup

Feb 15, 2009

I've moved from Outlook Express on my XP desktop to Windows mail on my Vista laptop. I plan on moving to Outlook on both computers, but not until I get this folder thing straightened out. I was able to import my OE mail into Windows Mail ok. Then I had a hard drive failure on my laptop. I had backed up my mail files and I was able to restore my Windows Mail ok.

I had several "Recovered Folders", but they included everything. I moved all of my folders out of the recovered folders and placed them once more under the Inbox. Then I deleted the empty recovered folders.

Now I want to backup my mail, not using the Vista backup, but with a third party. So when I go into my Windows Mail folder in Windows Explorer, I find all of the "recovered folders" are still there. Now they're listed as Local Folders. I can't find the configuration of my folders as I see them in Windows mail at all. I have a "Backup" folder with a "new" folder inside of it with a windows file that is unopenable.

Uniblue Registry Booster And Registry Scans.

Nov 13, 2009

I am using this program to clean up my registry and it seems to work fine except the errors keep coming back. I can do a scan, clean up all the errors and then shut down and start up and I have a new 20 registry error list and most or all of the errors relate to "bad path for the value" and its windows files that seem to be at fault. I don't understand why Microsoft operating system would create registry errors on a startup, before anything has been installed etc. is RegistryBooster misleading me or what. I am running win7 but it did the same thing on vista home premium so I think the question is valid for this group.

Windows Registry Repair?

Jan 23, 2010

I have a serious problem with my Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS (SP2 installed). It all started when my CD/DVD-Drive was not recognised anymore in Windows Explorer, Windows Device-Manager and even BIOS. This problem was caused by Audiograbber Software Installation & Use.

It is a known bug in Vista. Microsoft has set up an automatic "Fix-this" utility. Or can choose to manually fix the problem. This includes deleting some Registry Entries (UpperFilter and LowerFilter), which are responsible for Disc-Drive control in Vista. As the automatic fix did not work for me I decided to manually delete Upperfilter and Lowerfilter Registry Entries (without making a backup prior). I screwed it all up! The consequence: Vista-Startup got stuck in bluescreen/restart loop..............

ReReading Windows Registry Setting

I am trying to write a script to add a few items like: "Connect to" to the Start Menu. This seems pretty easy by changing values in the registry and setting [HKEY_CURRENT_USER SoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced]"Start_ShowNetConn"=dword:00000001 works to turn "Connect To" on after the next reboot. Is there a command to force Windows to re-look at the registry after setting this value, so that the change becomes effective without having to reboot the computer.

Easily Find Registry Locations In Windows

May 27, 2008

Just wanted to pass along a nice little tweaked program for making the registry a lot easier to use. Even with Windows Vista, the basic registry editor has not changed - and one *sorely* missing feature is an 'address bar' of sorts, allowing you easy navigation through the registry. Ever read a tutorial, like Copy as Path - Add or Remove from Context Menu and wished you could easily open that registry key without having to navigate through the tree on the left and find each individual hive / key?

Well, with RegEditX - Tweaks for the Windows Registry Editor (REGEDIT) you can - quickly, easily, and painlessly. See, RegEditX has that missing address bar - so, if you want to go to the key mentioned in the tutorial I linked above, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTAllFilesystemObjectsshellxContextMenuHandlersCopyAsPathMenu, you simply copy the entire thing, paste it in the address bar in RegEditX, and presto! If you have need to use the registry a lot, or are like me, like to add system tweaks by hand, then this is a must have program for you. *WARNING* - Editing the registry can result in your computer being rendered unusable. You assume all risks if you decide to edit anything in the registry. I assume no liability in providing you with this link. As always, be sure to make backups prior to changing anything.
