but i still cannot delete a registry key/subfolders that i need.
i am trying to install an ESET Nod32 AV upgrade but i cannot overwrite its registry keys in the local machine i believe, therefore it doesnt install correctly.
I recently tried to remove entries in my registry for Uniblue Spyeraser, but have been unable to do so. I get the "unable to delete all specified values". I even get this after enabling and signing on as admin AND running regedit as admin. I don't know how to get any more admin than that.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a program that worked successfully for quite some time and just recently it stopped working. I tracked it down to a reading of a registry key located in HKLMSoftware where I get an error from the Win32 API `RegOpenKeyEx' which returns with a value of 2 (that is to say there is no such entries). But there is such an entry so this is very puzzling.What is happening? Why was it working before and not now? The same program works fine under another vista machine which is more or less configured the same way.Of course disabling UAC works but that's out of the question.
View 6 Replies View RelatedTried backing up windows mail settings and restoring after a clean install. three methods, all the same results.
1 saving registry keys.
2. Windows backup.
3. Widows easy transfer.
Everything is fine but the signatures. They look grayed out and when I click on them Windows mail crashes immediately.
I purchased the Upgrade version. I have XP service pack 3 installed right now. I know there's a work around that allows the upgrade version to be used for a clean install. I was wondering if upgrading the normal way over XP will basically be the same as a clean install. Will it wipe my drive clean or will there still be remnants left such as drivers, programs, registry keys, etc? Also, if I ever wanted to do a clean install, which shouldn't be a problem legally since I own XP, would it basically be the same as doing so with the full version? Another question I have is about manually maintaining my system. I've read that Vista isn't like XP in that I don't need registry cleaners or spyware cleaners. Is this true? I have a habit of using these things frequently to keep my comp as speedy as possible.
Not much, just Auslogics Boost Speed, AVG, and zone alarm. Those are my mainstays. I also have ad-aware and CCleaner just in case. Would AVG and zone alarm still be good programs to use? I find that they do very well in keeping my system protected.I must admit, I was among those that talked about Vista like it was crap and I haven't even tried it much. It was mostly from what I've heard. It wasn't until I read that article at tweakguides.com, ( TweakGuides.com - Vista Annoyances Resolved ) about Vista that I decided to take the plunge and go for it. Made me feel like an idiot but it gave me the true info without the BS.
Can someone give me a blow by blow method of deleting registry entries. I am stuck and tried all "possible" combinations of editing permissions but nothing seems to work. What is the secret formula to this?
The structure looks like this:
HKLMSoftwareClassesCLSID{ very long key}MiscStatus1
MiscStatus has a single subkey called 1
It (ie 1 ) cannot be opened, permission is denied. If I could delete 1, I could then delete the entire thing up to CLSID.
I have tried running regedit.exe as Administrator but that does not help. I am running Vista 64 SP2
This just started after reinstalling Vista Premiunm 32. I want to make a change in the registry to allow a DVD favorites folder in my media center. I can make the necessary change but the change will not save. I have a HP media center PC running Vista Premium 32. I have made this change before with out any problems.

Now for some reason the Will NOT DELETE. we have tried everything from drag and drop to move to folder and setting the filters so it would move then to the junk folder and nothing works. i have gone through windows KB and vista help and support and found nothing that worked. i have searched everywhere but can't seem to find anything that might help.
View 5 Replies View Relatedsent laptop to service center for warrenty repair to cover. repair center updated the bios (bios launcher downloaded to desktop). when i got machine home i noticed an adminstrative tools icon now on my desktop. i am unable to do anything with this icon. when right clicked i get no option to delete or to open properities. i have tried dragging and dropping,moving, and deleting. i cannot move it off the desktop. control pannel still has the administrative icon in it and it works. the icon on the desktop works also. hovvever desktop is no place for admin. tools. i have also tried to delete
from safe mode without any success.
I have a cannon ip2600 printer. It has worked for about 6 months and now I can't print. I have canceled all documents and tried to delete drivers so I can reinstall but vista won't let me. He went to Offline NT Password & Registry Editor and downloaded cd080802.zip under the bootdisk submenu. Our attempts to correct the problem have failed. We've tried deleting the account through Control Panel and command prompt. We've tried making the account inactive through command prompt. Even when we type in "net user *** " all we get is "The syntax of this command is: ..." like the account is inaccessible. You don't get the "user name could not be found" message that you would if you typed in an invalid user name but you don't get the account information that you normally would either. We've tried system restore but the account is still set as administrator.

this. I have tried the Disk Cleanup tool and a "delete file on reboot" utility. Neither work.
Eclipse has created folder inside folder recusively. Now I am not able to delete this folder using neither 'Windows Explorer' nor using command prompt using RMDIR/S. It tells names of folder is too long.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having some problems with my drivers so I am trying to delete the partition on the operation system drive and do a fresh install, operating system and drivers. However, no matter what I do I cannot get my computer to boot from the windows vista DVD so I can delete the OS partition. Here is what I already tried:
- My BIOS is set to boot from CD ROM first
- I have tried both DVD drives
- I verified that the DVD is good by trying it in a different computer where it will boot from the DVD drive
- The DVD drive works because I can initiate installation from the DVD drive. But since it isn't on start-up, I cannot delete the partition and all the drivers.
How do I get this dang computer to recognize this DVD on boot?
I am unable to delete all of AVG under Grisoft because I need special permission. I have disabled AVG but still can not delete the Grisoft folder.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently changed a folder name to an alt code which shows up as a blank space.It shows up as this without parenthesis.() Now that I've done that I can't move the file to anywhere, rename it, and I can't delete too. I right click it and hit delete but no confirmation comes up asking if I want to or not. No message saying it's in use or anything. If I try to rename it it reverts back to the invisible characters. I also can't move the file to anywhere else from my desktop. I've been trying for awhile now can't do anything with it

I cant deleted some invalid paths and shortcuts in the system....
Here when I open any application and try to insert or open a file for that application, I am facing the problem.
For Example,
In VLC Player, I click on Media --> Open File
This gives you the Box to select the file you want and in the bottom of that small window in the " File name " box, you will be having a drop down box to select the file.
Here all the deleted files are listed with the file name and path, which was deleted months ago...
When you select the file it says, "Path does not exist, try again"
So, I think all the invalid shortcuts are stored some where in the system, which displays there.
So we need to deleted that particular cache.
I found out that there is something called " Indexed Cache " in Vista, which saves all the shortcuts as the files are stored.
I need to find out how to delete the file shortcuts from that location.
Similiar issue is there in Outlook 2007, when I compose a new message and insert file.
It gives the drop down box like the above issue with all the deleted files path.
I tried rebuilding the Indexing Options as advised before.
It didnt work.
I performed all the basic steps, like deleting cookies,temp files from system,ran chkdsk,disk cleanup, and also used some popular and unpopular cleaning software and nothing worked.
My Windows Vista Enterprise has a serious problem. It is unable to find, delete, or create any system restore points. I have not found a way to re-initialize the system restore point process.

Win 7 compatible - have used this and deleted all 1200 entries it found. It makes a backup - been running for several hours and reboots with no probs. Also working fine so far on my Vista x64 and Win 7 x86 installs. After cleaning you need to shut the app. and reopen it for it to find it's backups. (Easy to find them by hand - it can compress them to.7z files, too ). Have used their regdefrag a lot - identical scans and results to the Auslogics and Glary versions- so use whichever defragger you already have. WARNING: not recommended to defrag registry across drives.
