This just started after reinstalling Vista Premiunm 32. I want to make a change in the registry to allow a DVD favorites folder in my media center. I can make the necessary change but the change will not save. I have a HP media center PC running Vista Premium 32. I have made this change before with out any problems.
I backup up data to a remote Western Digital drive using the Vista Backup verything seems fine. I selected to backup all files on the "Back Up Files" menu except TV Shows, Compressed Files and Additional Files. My question is, If this hard drive dies and no longer lets me access it (which is what happened to my last XP computer) can I save registry and all other files that will let me restore to another hard drive with the least amount of hassle? Also is there anyway I can save profiles and passwords and the like. Ideally, I'd like to backup my entire hard drive and be able reinstall it to a new hard drive if this one dies. When my XP hard drive died I had my documents saved but had a real problem with this other information.
I am 'printing to pdf' to save a web page in that format. I get the following error message C:filename.doc. You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the 'username' folder instead? When I click on YES, I get the same error but with the 'username' in the address. I am administrator OS is Vista Business Acrobat is 8.1 Standard
Note: The following description refers to an HTML file residing in a folder on my computer, not an HTML file on the internet (web page.) When I open an existing HTML file with Notepad, then attempt to "Save" it, an alert message box appears which says: "Cannot create the C:UsersMeDesktopfolder namefilename.html file.
Make sure the path and filename are correct." I can "Save As..." a different file name or different file type, but cannot "Save" in the normal manner. This problem only affects saving an HTML file. There is no problem with other file types. I'm not certain of the time sequence, but I think I downloaded an update to QuickTime since the last time there wasn't a problem.
I am experiencing problems opening a word attachment, when i click on the attachment to open it nothing happens, I have tried to save it and then open it and won't let me save it. I get the error message, Command failed to execute. I have plenty of memory free and am baffled as to what it could be.
Whenever I try to save a message to my hard drive a second time, i.e. overwriting the previous document, I get an error message saying that it is unable to save. I used to be able to do this with Outlook Express. Is there a way to fix this? Windows Live Mail has the same problem.
I am unable to post bmp files to my C:Windows folder. "You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission." (Bummer -- I am the computer administrator and this computer's sole user.)
When editing a picture, I keep getting this message: "changes to this picture can't be saved because Photo Gallery has experienced a problem." I've tried various things I've found online (as apparently others have experienced this too). Here's the thing, it's worked for years until now. Last week I played around with my services, disabling some to speed up my computer and also played with my start-up menu.
For background on this post, see "Unable to save HTML file" posted 9/17/2009 12:31PM. Comments:
(1) A reset of IE did not fix the problem. (2) A system restore to the day before installing QuickTime did fix the problem. This doesn't prove that QuickTime is at fault, of course, but I still have my suspicions. I will probably reload QuickTime shortly, and if the problem returns, I'll post it.
Note: It appears that the system restore reversed the IE reset, so for anyone (like me) who might be nervous about doing the reset, the restore is a safety backup.
I am using a Acer Aspire laptop and using aol webmail for my email. I am not able to open or save attachments from my email. a window will open up and ask to save or open, but when I click open it will save as if it is going to open the attachment but never shows the attachment. when I "save as" an attachment it supposedly sends it to my computer, but I can never find the file. If I go to recent downloads and select the file that I downloaded it says it is missing the shortcut. I am up to date with Adobe Reader for pdf files.
Like many others based on previous posts, am unable to open or save attachments in windows mail. I think my problem is exactly the same as "anhlyss" had in the posts in January. I am hoping there is an easier fix than restoring factory setting. As suggested in other threads, I have ensured that I have unchecked the "do not allow attachments to be opened" box in options.
If I click on the attachment to open it, the little hourglass pointer comes up, and then goes back to the arrow, but nothing else happens. If I try to save the attachment, I get this message: "There was an error saving one or more of your attachments, please check your free disk space and try again"
I click start, go to search box and no matter what I type in...cmd, run, whatever. I can't get the appropriate dialog box. Can anyone help. This problem only arose today for some reason.
i had followed this guide Unable to delete registry keys
but i still cannot delete a registry key/subfolders that i need.
i am trying to install an ESET Nod32 AV upgrade but i cannot overwrite its registry keys in the local machine i believe, therefore it doesnt install correctly.
I am having an issue trying to change the permissions in my registry using Windows Vista Ultimate x64. When I try to give it Full access it gives me an error. "Unable to save permission changes on USB". "Access is Denied" The key I am trying to change permissions on: HKEY_LOCAL MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetEnumUSB.
I recently tried to remove entries in my registry for Uniblue Spyeraser, but have been unable to do so. I get the "unable to delete all specified values". I even get this after enabling and signing on as admin AND running regedit as admin. I don't know how to get any more admin than that.
I'm sure this subject is beat to death, but I've been searching and cant find a thing, is registry defragging the same as registry cleaning, as far as effects of course. I know they perform different things but are they both harmful to the system?
Few days ago my mp3 player wouldn't synchronize to my computer so I went to see whats wrong.. I've checked with the manufacturers knowledge base and I got to a part where you have to change something in the registry editor..I tried to do this but the message I always get is "Unable to save permission changes on USB. Permission is denied." I don't see whats the problem as theres only one account on this computer.
Something has changed in my Home Premium system such that I can no longer save to the desktop! When I try, I get an error message stating " You don't have permission to save in this location." I do not recall changing ANY permissions to prevent this. I did have a problem installing Office Home 2007 and maybe that caused a change. Where do I need to go to set the permission back to allow me to save to the desktop?
WARNING: only for advanced users who like to clean the registry. Quicksys regcleaner normally $25 free - only 4hrs left from here: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/
Win 7 compatible - have used this and deleted all 1200 entries it found. It makes a backup - been running for several hours and reboots with no probs. Also working fine so far on my Vista x64 and Win 7 x86 installs. After cleaning you need to shut the app. and reopen it for it to find it's backups. (Easy to find them by hand - it can compress them to.7z files, too ). Have used their regdefrag a lot - identical scans and results to the Auslogics and Glary versions- so use whichever defragger you already have. WARNING: not recommended to defrag registry across drives.
I am using this program to clean up my registry and it seems to work fine except the errors keep coming back. I can do a scan, clean up all the errors and then shut down and start up and I have a new 20 registry error list and most or all of the errors relate to "bad path for the value" and its windows files that seem to be at fault. I don't understand why Microsoft operating system would create registry errors on a startup, before anything has been installed etc. is RegistryBooster misleading me or what. I am running win7 but it did the same thing on vista home premium so I think the question is valid for this group.
I am unable to send email. Using Vista. Have emptied outbox as suggested in other posts. Outbox was emptied without difficulty, sent to drafts, then deleted. Created new email - tried to send - still couldn't. Error message - unable to connect to smpt server. Have gone to tols - accounts - servers - re-entered info.
I finally got my wireless NW going, but now find that I need to re-enter the WEP key (after I select the SSID) every time that I want to network. How do I save my configuration information (including WEP) so that my network is connected every time I boot up? Ideally this would automatically select my SSID from the others in my neighborhood and the WEP would already be entered. My second choice would be to select the SSID and the 10-character WEP would laready be entered.
After right clicking on a .png file in either internet explorer 8, or, firefox 3.5. The images end up a blank file? There is no image, and I cannot open it? I can save .jpeg images ok though? Does anyone know why I cannot save .png files?
Running Vista Ultimate x64 with IE8. Otherwise, the machine is updated and running perfectly. Message: "The webpage could not be saved" in Web Archive and Webpage Complete. It can be saved when HTML Only is selected, but when the file is opened it only results in opening the browser to whatever state it is currently in. It can also be saved as Text File but when that is opened, the file only reads: "Windows live hotmail".
