Unable To Save Edited Pictures
May 15, 2010
When editing a picture, I keep getting this message: "changes to this picture can't be saved because Photo Gallery has experienced a problem." I've tried various things I've found online (as apparently others have experienced this too). Here's the thing, it's worked for years until now. Last week I played around with my services, disabling some to speed up my computer and also played with my start-up menu.

We have Vista Home Premium. After editing a picture I get the message "Changes to this picture can't be saved because it's no longer available. You might have lost your network connection or the picture might have been deleted." I am not on a network, photos are on the 'C' drive and they have most definitely have NOT been deleted. What gives? This used to work fine. Perhaps one of the 4 dozen Vista "updates" screwed it up? This is the first problem I have encountered in Vista but it is annoying as other photo editing programs do not work as well as WPG as far as lightening.

New Dell computer running that crappy Windows Vista system. After editing any JPEG in Windows Photo Gallery, I get a pop up that "changes to this picture cannot be saved because Photo Gallery has experienced a problem".
These are regular JPEG's that are on my desktop. They are not locked or funny file names, or any of the other obvious problems. Anybody out there able to help a cpu novice on this one? My wife is ready to throw this brand new computer away because of the problems running anything on Vista.BTW,pretty ironic, it is trying to block me out of this site, that it recommends .I go to with problems.

I am 'printing to pdf' to save a web page in that format. I get the following error message
C:filename.doc
You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission.
Would you like to save in the 'username' folder instead?
When I click on YES, I get the same error but with the 'username' in the address.

OS is Vista Business

Note: The following description refers to an HTML file residing in a folder
on my computer, not an HTML file on the internet (web page.) When I open an existing HTML file with Notepad, then attempt to "Save" it, an alert message box appears which says: "Cannot create the C:UsersMeDesktopfolder namefilename.html file.
Make sure the path and filename are correct." I can "Save As..." a different file name or different file type, but cannot "Save" in the normal manner. This problem only affects saving an HTML file. There is no problem with other file types. I'm not certain of the time sequence, but I think I downloaded an update to
QuickTime since the last time there wasn't a problem.

Whenever I try to save a message to my hard drive a second time, i.e. overwriting the previous document, I get an error message saying that it is unable to save. I used to be able to do this with Outlook Express. Is there a way to fix this? Windows Live Mail has the same problem.

For background on this post, see "Unable to save HTML file" posted 9/17/2009 12:31PM. Comments:
(1) A reset of IE did not fix the problem.
(2) A system restore to the day before installing QuickTime did fix the problem. This doesn't prove that QuickTime is at fault, of course, but I still have my suspicions. I will probably reload QuickTime shortly, and if the problem returns, I'll post it.
Note: It appears that the system restore reversed the IE reset, so for anyone (like me) who might be nervous about doing the reset, the restore is a safety backup.

I am using a Acer Aspire laptop and using aol webmail for my email. I am not able to open or save attachments from my email. a window will open up and ask to save or open, but when I click open it will save as if it is going to open the attachment but never shows the attachment. when I "save as" an attachment it supposedly sends it to my computer, but I can never find the file. If I go to recent downloads and select the file that I downloaded it says it is missing the shortcut. I am up to date with Adobe Reader for pdf files.

Like many others based on previous posts, am unable to open or save attachments in windows mail. I think my problem is exactly the same as "anhlyss" had in the posts in January. I am hoping there is an easier fix than restoring factory setting. As suggested in other threads, I have ensured that I have unchecked the "do not allow attachments to be opened" box in options.
If I click on the attachment to open it, the little hourglass pointer comes up, and then goes back to the arrow, but nothing else happens. If I try to save the attachment, I get this message: "There was an error saving one or more of your attachments, please check your free disk space and try again"

Something has changed in my Home Premium system such that I can no longer save to the desktop! When I try, I get an error message stating " You don't have permission to save in this location." I do not recall changing ANY permissions to prevent this. I did have a problem installing Office Home 2007 and maybe that caused a change. Where do I need to go to set the permission back to allow me to save to the desktop?

I have recently had strange pixilated images mixed in with our photos when playing music and selecting slide show, our photos appear along with random images, they are not coming from MY PICTURES folder as i have right clicked when the odd pic appears and they are coming from random folders that i can't find.
I thought the strange graphics were coming from itunes or Tom Tom so i have uninstalled them both...but the images keep coming. How do i stop media center looking and producing these annoying images

All the pictures in my Pictures folder have disappeared, leaving behind a bunch of empty folders. I did not delete them, and I have no viruses according to AVG. It appears that this happened to a few others on this forum, but no solutions were presented. I noticed that the Read Only button was checked on the main folder, so I unchecked it, and I watched the status window un-apply "read only" protection from all my actual pictures files, so it seems to me that they're still there but invisible.
I performed a system restore, and Recova is in the process of performing a "Deep Scan" for my pictures (the quicker scan did not find the files). Has anyone solved the problem of the disappearing pictures? Is this a Vista problem, or perhaps a problem with an update?

I finally got my wireless NW going, but now find that I need to re-enter the WEP key (after I select the SSID) every time that I want to network. How do I save my configuration information (including WEP) so that my network is connected every time I boot up? Ideally this would automatically select my SSID from the others in my neighborhood and the WEP would already be entered. My second choice would be to select the SSID and the 10-character WEP would laready be entered.

Running Vista Ultimate x64 with IE8. Otherwise, the machine is updated and running perfectly. Message: "The webpage could not be saved" in Web Archive and Webpage Complete. It can be saved when HTML Only is selected, but when the file is opened it only results in opening the browser to whatever state it is currently in. It can also be saved as Text File but when that is opened, the file only reads: "Windows live hotmail".

I can't find my Pictures amywhere on my hard-drive. I'velooked in "C:usersduncsdocumentsPictures", but I don't have a folder called "documents", or indeed one called "Pictures".In Explorer, under 'Desktop | Duncs' I have the following, among otherthings:Documents - This has a location of G:I don't however, have anything for 'Pictures' or 'My Pictures'. WhenI do a search on my G: drive, for .JPG files, it lists all thepicture files that I have so where are they? Displaying the folder
shows the following-"My Pictures (G", but still I can't find them. There is no folder called 'My Pictures' or 'Pictures' on the G: drive. If I try to right-click and open location, I get the message "G: My Pictures is not accessible. The directory name is invalid."
