View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently changed a folder name to an alt code which shows up as a blank space. It shows up as this without parenthesis.() Now that I've done that I can't move the file to anywhere, rename it, and I can't delete too. I right click it and hit delete but no confirmation comes up asking if I want to or not. No message saying it's in use or anything. If I try to rename it it reverts back to the invisible characters. I also can't move the file to anywhere else from my desktop. I've been trying for awhile now can't do anything with it
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have 4 episodes of a show in my recycle bin - each episode is 1/2 hour long. I try to delete them, but I get a message saying Calculating time remaining and it just keeps showing that and never gives me a time or deletes the items. It says the speed is 0 bytes / sec. Any idea how I can get rid of these files?

Now, two friends contacted me frantically because they could not find the icon...obviously, they had right-clicked and then clicked the "delete" option instead of "empty" option.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 4 files present in my recycle bin ending with the .dat extension. I cannot delete, restore or do anything with these files without causing a hang. Any other file present there causes no problems. Any attempt to empty the bin causes a hang however I can delete individual files no problem except for these 4 files.

View 9 Replies View Relatedso when I delete something it goes to the recycle bin. When I delete something from the recycle bin it is gone forever. -THINK AGAIN- I deleted somthing from the recycle bin and got it back a few days later...I also found a ton so stuff I was told was "deleted" forever by Windows. I brought it back (using some uber-simple free program) just to see it it was really there (not just a file name) I was able to open it and read it as well as continue to edit it... This is PROBLEMATIC; some of these files contain sensitive data such as SSNs', medical info, and other stuff that I had believed to be "deleted" and wasn't. Why is it still on there and how do I delete it FOREVER? (Without drilling holes in my HD) >>I'm packing a Dell XPS 1530 running a home edition of Microsoft Vista
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a failed download icon on my desktop. I've tried to delete it using right-click/dragging to recycle bin but they each fail. (It just says "deleting 0 bytes" & continues forever.) I've tried to use Disk Cleaners "Delete Doctor" (which has worked once before) but now will not work. I've Refreshed & rebooted by system countless times. I've tried the Registry Edit (Run: regedit) but I'm unsure which file to delete. How do I know I'm deleting the right file? I'm using Vista Home Premium (32-bit).

How can I get into the folder if any account on windows is blocked from viewing it? Location is not available C:$Recycle.BinS-1-5-21-7200(more numbers) is not accessible.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy son changed a standard user account with parental controls to an administrator account by downloading a program off the internet. He went to Offline NT Password & Registry Editor and downloaded cd080802.zip under the bootdisk submenu. Our attempts to correct the problem have failed. We've tried deleting the account through Control Panel and command prompt. We've tried making the account inactive through command prompt. Even when we type in "net user *** " all we get is "The syntax of this command is: ..." like the account is inaccessible. You don't get the "user name could not be found" message that you would if you typed in an invalid user name but you don't get the account information that you normally would either. We've tried system restore but the account is still set as administrator.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having some problems with my drivers so I am trying to delete the partition on the operation system drive and do a fresh install, operating system and drivers. However, no matter what I do I cannot get my computer to boot from the windows vista DVD so I can delete the OS partition. Here is what I already tried:
- My BIOS is set to boot from CD ROM first
- I have tried both DVD drives
- I verified that the DVD is good by trying it in a different computer where it will boot from the DVD drive
- The DVD drive works because I can initiate installation from the DVD drive. But since it isn't on start-up, I cannot delete the partition and all the drivers.
How do I get this dang computer to recognize this DVD on boot?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am also facing a similiar issue, like given in the thread - Cannot delete shortcut file
I cant deleted some invalid paths and shortcuts in the system....
Here when I open any application and try to insert or open a file for that application, I am facing the problem.
For Example,
In VLC Player, I click on Media --> Open File
This gives you the Box to select the file you want and in the bottom of that small window in the " File name " box, you will be having a drop down box to select the file.
Here all the deleted files are listed with the file name and path, which was deleted months ago...
When you select the file it says, "Path does not exist, try again"
So, I think all the invalid shortcuts are stored some where in the system, which displays there.
So we need to deleted that particular cache.
I found out that there is something called " Indexed Cache " in Vista, which saves all the shortcuts as the files are stored.
I need to find out how to delete the file shortcuts from that location.
Similiar issue is there in Outlook 2007, when I compose a new message and insert file.
It gives the drop down box like the above issue with all the deleted files path.
I tried rebuilding the Indexing Options as advised before.
It didnt work.
I performed all the basic steps, like deleting cookies, temp files from system, ran chkdsk, disk cleanup, and also used some popular and unpopular cleaning software and nothing worked.
My Windows Vista Enterprise has a serious problem. It is unable to find, delete, or create any system restore points. I have not found a way to re-initialize the system restore point process.

- The file is from AIM and is labeled "Storage" (I have since uninstalled AIM)
- I can not restore it or use restore all or delete all.
- The file prevents me from emptying my recycle bin. I have to manually click and delete everything.
Its becoming bothersome because I can't use empty my recycle bin all at once. I've tried deleting it in safe mode and using disk cleanup but it just wont go away.
