recently my pc was infected with a virus that kept opening pop-ups saying i had virus' and to remove it, i had to buy their software, i ignored all that stuff and i have HOPEFULLY removed it all.but now.. my explorer.exe doesn't open when i start my computer, this happened to me before , but i forgot how to do it, all i remember was something on regedit and renaming or chaning something...

I started a scan of my computer with the update. The new Security Suite update supposedly found 29,000+ infected files with a virus named Trojan-Downloader.Win32.VB.dck? The weird thing is - When I look for the files that are supposedly infected - or the folder that these files supposedly exist in I can't find it. The virus appears to have created a folder named " ' " on my hard drive - but when I look for this folder I can't find it. Even if I view hidden folders. My computer doesn't appear to be running strangly like it is infected. But the virus scan says it is.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe computer has worked fine since then, I've used the internet at wi-fi hotspots around my city, with never a single problem...until last night. While I was on-line at home, I was checking a website that I have always checked before without issue when my Windows Defender suddenly popped open and said that my computer was under threat and blocked Internet Explorer from me and started running a diagnosic. Well apparently it said that I had like 26 infections in my computer. That I had worms, spyware, adware, that someone was watching my key logs, etc, etc, and it gave me the option to click on the remove all. So I clicked on it, but instead of doing anything, another message box appeared saying that my Windows Defender is not the full version and that I must either purchase the full version or enter my key code for it. I don't have a key code since I never bought this program, was pre-installed.
Anyways, now whenever I try to open Internet Explorer, the Windows Defender pops up and says that my IE is infected and asks if I would like to purchase the full Windows Defender. I have clicked on both options. If I say "no", the computer blocks my IE, if I say yes, it opens my IE, but instead of taking me to a Windows website, it takes me to www.antivirus-care.com, which my browser says does not exist and instead takes me to another page with a listing of anti-virus program sites to buy from. Well, all this seems fishy to me because I can't do anything with the Windows Defender program. I can't turn it off, I can't change its settings, or even look at other options it has. Instead whenever I try the message window of "would I like to buy the full version now?" appears and keeps appearing.
At first it started closing DCOM and rebooting -I had seemed to solve the DCOM problem by instructing it to restart instead of rebooting my PC- By advice I tried Malwarebytes disconnected from my modem and in safe mode. It found a bunch of trojans and a worm and it supposedly removed them. In spite of this, Google search and Yahoo search contined to redirect my queries to advertising sites, but my PC seemed to operate normally otherwise. I then ran AVG disconnected from the web -avg only does command line in safe mode so I used it in regular start up- prior to going to bed on the 3rd night, and upon waking, I noted that AVG had a list of infections it couldn't remove.
My PC was locked up so bad that I couldn't even turn it off by the on off switch, so I had to shut it down using the power source switch. After rebooting Windows issued an error message stating that explorer has stopped working and needs to shut down. When I tried to access the Task Manager, I got a similar warning for that. Now I get errors that search host process and many other processes have shut down..............
"If your system is a Microsoft product and you have your 20 digit registration number, you can go to the Microsoft web site, and they will do a free scan and most likely remove any known virus such as Trojan win32.murlo." Is this true, and where would I find my 20 digit registration and what is the web site?

I tells you falsely that your system is infected and then try's to coerce you into buying the program by continuous pop-ups.I've done a bit of research on the net on the other machine and found several sites which claim they can remove it, but as they're all .exe files I have no way of knowing if they're genuine or if they're a trick which will infect the other machine.

Now every time I log on to Windows Vista a warning dialog appears informing that the file wasn't found. I restore the system to a previous point, but nothing happened. What does this file do? Ive been searching everywhere for answers i have vista home premium with windows live care anti virus in perfect condition and it detected something trying to connect to the internet. This monster devil thing icon beside it told me right away...trouble and also the random numbers...By looking in the settings of my anti virus i found that i blocked 4 of them so far ive scanned with my anti virus 2 times and 3 times with spybot search and destroy AND ran a ccleaner.It's still there...I just want to get rid of this once and for all but what in God's name is it!

That didn't work so I backed up my data and did a complete reinstall. Upon startup, I performed an AVG scan and it came up with the same unremovable trojans I had before reinstallation.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI got my laptop from my school, and it's Windows Vista Business. After 4 months using my laptop and using internet explorer, IE started to mess up! Everytime i opened my homepage: Google, it will redirect to a dating site. And every sort of pop ups appeared... the pop up blocker were turned on, homepage was set to google.co.uk, security setting was at the highest, blocked all cookies, and all sort of things i did. Also, it makes my startup , and performance become 6X time slower than usual. After doing some searching on google, i found this tutorial site, there's a tutorial that exactly i have, it says that my User Account/profile is infected or something, it says to delete the account that's infected. I backed up all my files, and created a new admin account, and deleted that "infected" account.
It really worked, IE was fine, performance and such. But that was just temporarily, after 2 days, All the pop ups and stuff come back. So, i deleted the admin account i'am using, BUT I FORGOT TO MAKE ANOTHER ADMIN ACCOUNT!! And i'am still using a guest account. I can't install, create a user account, use windows update, and all the admin Privileges. There is one Administrator account, but i don't know the password. Oh the laptops is Toshiba, and i think the admin account is created by toshiba. Is there another way of retrieving, or whatever method to be an admin for my laptop again WITHOUT reinstalling my Windows Vista.

I know this would be done through boot.ini however i have no idea how to do so. Also id make a seperate partition on my hd of ten gigs just for the backup image.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI need to change the display filename colors in Vista Windows Explorer similar to the MAC O/S Feature. This question does NOT deal with Encrypted Files or Compressed Files. I simply want to change the display names of the files to colors such as BLUE, GREY, etc., just like I can do on the MAC O/S for the past 5 years.
I do NOT want to use any third party software file managers. There must be a way to do it in Windows since APPLE has been doing it for 60 months now. I can't believe that Windows STILL Cannot perform this simple task! If you have a working solution using Windows Explorer please email me and let me know.
I wasn't quite sure if IE8 was the culprit, but it became apparent once I removed it. Internet Explorer 8 interferes with the functionality in Windows Explorer for Vista. Say for example: With IE8 installed, open up "Computer". Close it, then open it again. It should be instantaneous. But its not. A window will take over to 10 seconds to show its initial contents. Once its open though, its very fast because the instance is already running. But once it closes it will take another 10 seconds to open again. Internet Explorer 8 itself opens up very slowly even after the first opening. Can any Vista users verify this?
1. Install IE8
2. Go: Start > click Computer
3. Close that Window.
4. Repeat step 2.
Is it an instantaneous opening or does the window take more than 5 seconds to populate? Repeat those steps with opening Internet Explorer. Is it the same? If so, welcome to the club. Does Microsoft have any way to report this bug to developers?
I am being badly haunted by a Bagle virus that randomly shuts my PC down.
I have installed and run every type of virus scanning/removal tool (Windows included) in the world and although I removed other items, this virus will be dormant for days on end and then just shut down.
I ran Spyware Doctor and this is the infection location:

Windows claims it is an email virus but no matter how hard I try, I cannot remove it. I have gone to the location of the virus manually through RegEdit but it doesn't show in the folder it indicates it is located (above).
Kaspersky, Norton, McAfee, you name it will shut them down when installing them. I quit. Any help is always appreciated.
I get a small alert window pop into the middle of the screen called "ENTER NETWORK PASSWORD" then text saying "type your username and password" Then there is three boxes with the details of my username etc and my password ****'d out. I can click "OK" or "CANCEL" or "CLOSE" but the box comes back. I am running Symantec virus protector and it finds nothing and Spybot and it shows there is a couple of items it can't correct unless I have admin profile.

I have an HP dv5-1000us running Vista Home Premium 64, and I've had it for several months. Recently it has developed a tendancy to randomly freeze solid (no control alt delete, no coming back from being frozen, must hard restart). It got much worse when I tried to install the new Zune update (3.1); now it will freeze like clockwork about 3 minutes after I open Zune. If I don't open Zune, it's much more random but it still happens. Another symptom is that I started getting a message that my sound driver software had to close due to a "problem". Sound still works, I just get the annoying message. Nothing I do seems to fix it, including Bios flashing, driver/device install/reinstall, etc.
I was really surprised when I looked at the system monitor. I have 4 gigs of RAM installed, and it runs at a steady 1.7gb usage with no programs open. I have disabled the animation stuff, too. When I open Zune it shoots up to around 2gb. The processor varies between 4 to 20% with no programs open, and is at 95-99% when Zune is open. As I'm typing this, I have flock, skype, and outlook open, the processor is running at about 30% and the RAM usage holds at a steady 1.76gb. Question: Is this normal? Or is it time (already) to bust out the restore disks?
I looked up all the info about the Virtumonde virus/trojan and everywhere I read said it's a virus that's more of a popup.. it's an ad crapper.. sends you hundreds of ad's and stuff of that sort. and that it can attach to IE and record your keystrokes and all that. but my brother doesn't have this problem.
My brothers problem with this Virtumonde virus. It's starting WITH Windows and completely locks him out of the system. During Boot, it's all fine, enters password. and see's background picture. then it covers the screen saying Virus detected and says what it is. and can't do ANYTHING. nothing works from there. I've tried cntl, alt, del. I've started in Safe Mode. only for it to stop with safe mode written in all 4 corners and do nothing.
I'm not the smartest person on virus's and stuff of this sort. I'm a gamer, and a builder, and Overclocker. not a Tech that can fix viruses. if I have to I'll just reinstall windows on his system. (XP) He doesn't have anything really he'd miss on that hard drive. just a few programs, Ventrillo and such.
1) It is not slowing down my computer or anythinbg. But whenever i plug USB stick into my computer and then remove it. There are 2 files created/ mIRC.exe i think.

I try to have an on-line scan from the Symantec site, to no avail. The PC stalls again. Now, when Avast always seems to stall on either of the following files: system32/ntmarta.dll or System32/ntoskrnl.exe
Is ntmarta.dll a "straight" file or is it a virus ? Just for a try I tried to rename it, but could not do it. An errror message indicated that I do not have the rights to do so.
im aisha and im worried that my pc got lots of virus.. sometimes antivirus never detect some. one of the best ways to do is by using the command prompt.. i used to do it with flashdrives but i cant make it now.
