When opening a folder in Vista my Word document appears as a notepad file and opens in notepad. However, when i go to my XP it appears as a word doc and opens correctly. Is this a vista problem? I have Office 2003 on both computers.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows Vista Home premium 64bit with 8gb ram and an hp c309a printer. My problem is that vista take a long time to print even just a 1 word paper using notepad. Also when i right click the printer in the printer folder it also take time to open the properties, aprox 3 minutes. So if i try to print it takes 3 minutes just to open the tab to click print and to select the printer i wish to use. The c309a is connected by usb cable, and i have tried re-installing the latest drivers and firmware for the printer as well as different usb cables and each of my usb ports. Yet for some reason there is a long 3+ minute pause when trying to print. I have also tried using the network feature and I still have same trouble. Also i have checked to make sure print spooling is on in services. HP has a utility to check for issues for both network and for usb, and the printer passes each test fine. I have done so many full uninstalls and installing of the software as well as the cable changes it is driving me nuts. I have been google'ing for days and days and have had no luck in fixing this issue. One last comment every time i try to print the applications I am using freeze for the 3+ minutes and the window application shows "application not responding", but after 3+ minutes i can finally select the printer and hit print, then at that point it freezes again for about 2 minutes and then prints. I have run multiple virus scans and multiple spyware detection programs and have also run online virus scans using bitdefend and trendmicro as well and i have no virus or spyware. I have also ran "hijackThis" and been told my system appears clean.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use an ancient program to replace Windows native notepad. It is called 'Notpad'. Imagine typing that into a search, you get a suggestion that you meant 'Notepad' and no relevant info.The program is discontinued. However, it worked fine in Viats x64.
Until a few days ago. I cannot execute the program. It shows up in task manager. Clicking .txt files does nothimg. When I delete the notpad.exe and replace it with the original from zip, nothing.
I have a program that installs as a subfolder of the Program Files (x86) folder. Inside the main folder of the application is a file, SpecDat.xxx. The application, when run, needs to change this file. If I run this application from an administrator account, it comes back with a Error '53': File Not Found error. After some extended debugging by both me and the author, we discovered it wasn't updating this file.
When I tried to update this file manually using Notepad, Notepad wouldn't save it either. After more research, I ran the application by right-clicking and selecting "run as an administrator". Now it works, even though I'm always running it from an administrator account.
Is there anyway I can delete all the spaces in a document without going thru it one space at a time?

View 9 Replies View RelatedOut of the blue, I can no longer view any powerpoint presentations sent to me in email (I'm using Outlook Express). I have re-installed the most recent powerpoint viewer several times and have made sure the "associations" for the extensions (ppt, pps, etc.) are properly associated with the viewer, and they are. I have even gone so far as to re-install vista to try and fix the problem, but that hasn't worked either. It used to work fine, so it's quite curious to me. If I save the file to my desktop and open it from there, it works, but not if I try to open it up inside Outlook - I get a "this file does not have a program associated with it..." error message.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on a web link in an application, it opens the url in MS Word, not Firefox (default bowser).
For example:
In CCleaner if I click the 'check for updates' link in the bottom of the window, Word will open up, a download box will appear and then it displays the website as a document.
This happens for all apps, however it doesn't happen if I click on a .html/.url document from explorer, that will launch Firefox just fine.
Until yesterday, I would create a backup to my word documents by inserting a CD and following the prompts erasing old files and burning updated files. Today I inserted the CD, received the prompt to erase; erased; reinserted the CD and nothing happened. Can't get a prompt of any kind. I'm using Vista on a Gateway laptop.

Running Word 2007 SP2 on Vista HP SP1. I (just) checked the Event Viewer to see if it recorded the problem, and could find nothing...amazing, since it seems almost every mouse movement and keyclick is logged.
My vista laptop won't spell check in Word. I have tried a number of things to try and solve this problem but none seem to work. I have gone to WORD OPTIONS; PROOFING and checked all the appropriate boxes and it still won't check my spellings. It works for the grammar but doesn't even pick up made up words that I try to test it with! I have checked my dictionary and ran the Microsoft Office Diagnostics. I have watched the tutorials and read one other post with the same problem but there was no solution for it.

I've joined several job finder sites online and the majority of them have an option that allows for downloading a resume. Some of these sites have responded to me with notice that I have a virus in my Word document. I have no idea how I could have gotten a virus in a simple resume but it has me disturbed. How many of these job finder sites have scrapped my resume due to this virus (I ask myself)? How do I go about removing the virus? I have Windows Live OneCare and have it set to do a virus scan once a week but it hasn't found anything. Do I uninstall Word 2007 then reinstall it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWord 2007 (on vista 32 bit) crashed this morning. It won't open again without crashing. It opens the window, I can see that it is asking me to open the recued document, on the left side, but then it crashes... looks for a problem... nothing... then it says "An Unknown error has occured" - but the litle window has "Endnote x1" in the header. - I have Endnote X1, obviously, and they don't work wonderfully together, but never this kind of problem. I've installed all the recent service packs, in the last few days. Word updates itself I'm pretty sure. Explorer crashes all the time, I think that it adobe related though *sigh*.
