I'm used to have Comic Sans while composing an email and Courier New when writing to a newsgroup. I've choosen these settings in Tools->Options->Send but they seem not to affect what's happening. What can i've done wrong? A guess is that there's an overriding setting putting everything to the same font. The settings for reading are working, though.

A friend is having a problem with the text (Name) of his desktop icons. Text should be white on the blue background but the text appears to have some blue color in it which makes it appear blurred. When he has black text on a white background it appears to have some white in it. It looks like the background color is bleeding into the text color.

I've been away from the computer for the past three weeks, and when I got home I discovered everything in perfect working order. Everything, that is, except for my User Folder. None of the subfolders (Music, Videos, Pictures, etc.) have text beneath the icons. This only happens if I have the folder in icon view, no matter the size. List, Details, and Tiles all show the appropriate information, but the names of the folders disappear as soon as I slide the view to Small Icons.
This is true for anything else in the User Folder. For example, I tried moving a file there from the desktop, only to have that file's name disappear. Removing it back to the desktop confirmed that the file still had its original title. Creating a new file in the folder yields the same result. The subfolders themselves still have their names, and I can see them if click "Rename" on any of the folders.

I want to keep track of the number of pics I have in a folder .. is there a way to insert text onto a folder icon, so that you can keep track of this? what i mean by this is actually inserting a number onto the folder icon itself, like "10". this way we would see the folder icon (along with the picture previews of whats inside the folder), as well as this number.

I just recently upgraded my XP system to a Vista 64 bit system. I print digital photos using Adobe Lightroom 1.4. With my XP system, I had a good match between my calibrated monitor (NEC 2690) and my printer (HP B9180) working in the ProPhoto RGB color space. I use ICC profiles and let the Lightroom application manage the color. With Vista, I've lost my match. Skin tones look great on my monitor and now print with a red tint. A blue sky prints with a purple cast. I tried Lightroom Beta 2 (64 bit software) but no difference. I played with some advanced settings in Vista's Color Management without success. I'm using NEC's SpectraView II calibration software which is 64 bit compatible. The graphics card that came with the computer is a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT.

I was wondering if someone could help me. I can't figure out how to make my color scheme stay in any particular setting. IE. I use WMP classic and it (I think) is not compatible with Windows Aero color scheme, so it changes automatically from Aero to Basic, then back to Aero when WMPC is closed.
That is not the problem, my problem is that I would like to just put the scheme back to Window Vista Basic, thus avoiding the need to change back and forth all the time. Everytime I reboot the scheme comes back as Aero.
This seems so simple, just select desired scheme, apply then once I logout or reboot those settings should save.

I have just recently installed Age of Empires III on my gateway vista laptop and the install went fine but when I play the game all the colors look like camera film negatives. Is there some setting to change to make the colors look normal? BTW it is an XP game if that has anything to do with.

i open a picture the display around the photo and picture have a noticeable yellow hue. All my drivers are updated, no conflicts. I'm running two displays and occasionally one of my displays is noticeably brighter than the other also. Not sure if its my graphics card acting up, driver issues, or an inherent vista FLAW.

My eyes are tired of this white-backgrounds-overdose in Windows Vista, and I would like to make them black. I think I can do it if I switch to "Vista Basic / Windows Standard / Windows Classic", but I would like to keep the Aero effects (transparency, etc.). Do you know if this can be done, and how? I've tried some visual styles, but all of them have white backgrounds. I guess a nice visual style with a black background would be the best solution, but I can't find one.

When I bring up the nVidia control panel, it doesn't have any of the color controls like brightness and contrast. The help file says I should select "Display" from the initial "Select a Category" page, but the only thing I get for "Display" is "Multiple Displays". Except for that, it's an empty page. And I only have one display, so that doesn't do anything either. This is a Presario SR2002X, originally with XP. The Vista upgrade DVD had an option to either upgrade XP or install Vista clean. I did a clean install. I also went to hp.com and downloaded the latest nVidia GeForce driver, version 7.15.10.9734, and installed it.

how the broken system acts. When I turn the computer on (it's an HP pavillion DV2000 laptop) it first shows the black screen with the little bar that says MICROSOFT CORPORATION near the bottom of the screen. Then it transitions to the Vista screen that says WELCOME , then the message changes to PREPARING YOUR DESKTOP. These phases take about as long as usual, and the hard drive LED shows a lot of hard drive activity. Finally the Vista logon screen is displayed. I type in my password and the screen changes to my usual desktop color but there is nothing displayed except the mouse pointer.
There is nothing to click, nothing to do. Ctrl+Alt+Del gives the usual menu for LOGOFF, Task Manager, etc. Task Manager shows about 20 processes and the CPU is 96% idle. It shows many services - some of them stopped. Starting in SAFE mode ends up in the same situation. I can't start from a Vista CD because I never got one with this machine - I have only the recovery partition for reloading the original software. So I can't get to recovery console...............

I have a HP4650 that is connected to a PC running Windows XP-SP3. I am printing from a laptop running Windows Vista Business 64. I am using the "HP PCL5 Universal Print Driver" (I have the same results if I use the "HP PCL6 Universal Print Driver"). These are the drivers for Vista 64 from HP's website. The printer is connected to the Vista laptop as a
local printer, using a local port similar to '\officedellHP4650'(file://\officedellHP4650). (If I don't use the local port approach, printing is extremely slow... 3+ minutes to display the printer's Properties dialog)
When I print from any program on the Vista laptop, even the Test Page from Properties, the printing is in black and white (no color). When I print from the computer that is connected directly to the printer, or from any other computer on the network, the printout is in color. Note that the color option **is** enabled in the printer's Properties on the Vista computer. I have unloaded and reloaded the drivers repeatedly.

when I start up my PC (running Vista64 sp2 OS) my sidebar has a white background instead of the usual translucent one. If I close the side bar, the white background remains with holes in it where the Gadget icons were. Logging off of Windows Vista and then back on again fixes the problem. Has anyone else had this specific problem? Is this a glitch with Vista OS and there is no cure?

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate with "Aero" and I'd like to turn off the transparency of the taskbar and perhaps also change its color (currently two shades of gray) without disabling "Aero" and without changing the transparency or color effects of other windows. Is this possible? Are there options within Windows or free 3rd party apps that can do this? I've seen this question posed before but with no satisfactory answer.
I notice that maximizing a window makes the taskbar appear opaque, but then I can't see the desktop. I'd like the taskbar to be opaque all the time. I also notice that using a background that's black at the bottom can make the taskbar appear opaque, but that prevents you from having fun with different backgrounds.
