Window Opens At Default Size, Not Maximized
Apr 6, 2009I use Vista Home Premium. I have an open source app that I want to be maximized when launched. How can I do this?
I've tried maximizing in 2 ways:
- Using the small square at the top right.
- Dragging the corners of the window to fill the screen.
In both cases, if I close and then re-open, the window has its default size.
Lost Non-maximized Media Center Window
Nov 2, 2007how to I reset the default window size and position of Vista Media Center? I somehow managed to either re-size it or move it off of the reachable portion of the desktop. If I go non-maximized the window shrinks off up towards the top and disappears. If I try and select move or size it takes me to the top of the screen and shows the arrows to move and size, but I cannot find or move / size the window. Is there a way to reset the default window position?

Jun 10, 2010I click Start, then Windows Update - nothing, it just locks up as a blank screen. It's not listed as a Program on Control Panel I've tried to download it, but it won't download. I've searched other sites, nothing helps. I restored the PC to a about month previous (5/12/2010) - nothing.I have Comcast and they replaced McAfee with the Norton Suite and that is what I'm using, not Windows protection software. Could that affect the use of Windows Update?What would you recommend?

Jan 19, 2010Installed XP Pro and Vista on separate partitions, hoping to update through Vista to Win 7. Changed strategy and deleted Vista, repartitioned HD. Now I still get a window at startup that defaults to Vista but gives me options to start XP. Would like to get rid of that Vista default so I don't have to hawk each reboot.

Mar 23, 2008I have a problem opening email attachments. I have tried different attachments with no avail. It used to work and something has now stopped it. I even have problems saving the attachments. I can start the save process, but Window Mail locks up. But strange enough the file is saved to the correct location. If I try to save multiple attachments, only the first file is saved, than its locked up again. On a side note, during one of these crashes a email was corupted, I can no longer read it. I can also not delete it or move it to a new folder.

May 11, 2009In XP I was able to get my windows to remember to open maximized or at least full size. Is there a way to get them to open full size or maximized in Vista? Every time I open a new window (don't like the tabs) it opens small (about the size of this Post Message box!). While it's not a major deal to make it full screen, I'm getting tired of it!
I did download (free version) TweakVI to get rid of the shortcut arrows on my desktop icons - don't know if that is a feature for that in there like in the TweakUI program or not. I did try to search for this, but wasn't sure what it's actually called to produce good results (I got a lot of blue screen responses, so I know my search string was WAY off.)

Explorer Window Showing Different Filenames Than The Command Line Window
Mar 25, 2008Can anyone explain this: 3219. The screenshot shows the folder view (in Windows Explorer), and a directory listing (in a Command Line window). Why is the Explorer window showing different filenames than the command line window? It's not so much of an issue, as I'm currently completing a scheduled backup of this drive using Nero Burning ROM, and will be formatting it soon.

May 20, 2010We're on a network and all the pcs only have one user and therefore I am administrator of all. One pc now won't let me access stuff. When I try and go into Windows defender or Manage windows start up programs, a window comes up saying "contact Administrator". ?? Can't access folder options either. There's a virus on it (darn kids) which I'm trying to get rid of (despite having McAfee, Windows defender, Ad-Aware and Stinger). Could it be the virus causing this? which is hard of course to get rid of if I can't have any access to security files.

Jun 2, 2008I just recently upgraded my XP system to a Vista 64 bit system. I print digital photos using Adobe Lightroom 1.4. With my XP system, I had a good match between my calibrated monitor (NEC 2690) and my printer (HP B9180) working in the ProPhoto RGB color space. I use ICC profiles and let the Lightroom application manage the color. With Vista, I've lost my match. Skin tones look great on my monitor and now print with a red tint. A blue sky prints with a purple cast. I tried Lightroom Beta 2 (64 bit software) but no difference. I played with some advanced settings in Vista's Color Management without success. I'm using NEC's SpectraView II calibration software which is 64 bit compatible. The graphics card that came with the computer is a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT.

Nov 19, 2009I was wondering if someone could help me. I can't figure out how to make my color scheme stay in any particular setting. IE. I use WMP classic and it (I think) is not compatible with Windows Aero color scheme, so it changes automatically from Aero to Basic, then back to Aero when WMPC is closed.
That is not the problem, my problem is that I would like to just put the scheme back to Window Vista Basic, thus avoiding the need to change back and forth all the time. Everytime I reboot the scheme comes back as Aero.
This seems so simple, just select desired scheme, apply then once I logout or reboot those settings should save.
Color Look Like Camera Film Negatives
Apr 11, 2008I have just recently installed Age of Empires III on my gateway vista laptop and the install went fine but when I play the game all the colors look like camera film negatives. Is there some setting to change to make the colors look normal? BTW it is an XP game if that has anything to do with.

I think I can do it if I switch to "Vista Basic / Windows Standard / Windows Classic", but I would like to keep the Aero effects (transparency, etc.). Do you know if this can be done, and how? I've tried some visual styles, but all of them have white backgrounds. I guess a nice visual style with a black background would be the best solution, but I can't find one.
