Windows Defender Or Manage Windows Start Up Programs Window Comes Up Saying "contact Administrator" Administrator
May 20, 2010
We're on a network and all the pcs only have one user and therefore I am administrator of all. One pc now won't let me access stuff. When I try and go into Windows defender or Manage windows start up programs, a window comes up saying "contact Administrator". ?? Can't access folder options either. There's a virus on it (darn kids) which I'm trying to get rid of (despite having McAfee, Windows defender, Ad-Aware and Stinger). Could it be the virus causing this? which is hard of course to get rid of if I can't have any access to security files.
I am the only user on my laptop. I accepted the Toshiba settings when I bought the machine, but I realise that there are a number of features that are disabled that (as an administrator) I should be able to use. for example:
1. Windows Defender will show me the details of start-up programs but not allow me to remove/enable/disable anything (the buttons are greyed-out/disabled).
2. There are some folders (e.g. in my internet favourites) which are read-only and when I switch read-only off, it ignores what I've done - they remain read-only.
I'm running Windows Home Premium, SP2. Windows Defender, Spyware Doctor, MBAM, SAS and CCleaner. MS Office 2007. 2 GB of RAM. All WU's are current. System is running fine. I'm having trouble with Win Defender Definitions updates so I'm working via e-mail with MS to reset my Security Settings and Permissions. One of their suggestions is to create a batch file using Run==>Cmd==notepad and have this file contain the following:
Now I'm having trouble saving this file as a batch file so that I can double click it to make it run under a Dos application. If saved correctly, I'm supposed to be able to double left click it or right click it and select `Run As Administrator'. No matter what I call it (reset.bat, reset.txt) or no matter what file type I save is as, when I double click it, it won't `run' or when I right click it, Run as Administrator is not an option. Am I doing something wrong? Paul C. Do I have a virus.
Windows defender alerts me when it blocks one of my start-up programs. Trouble is, it keeps alerting me throughout the day. I want to turn the alerts off. In Defender-Tools-Default Actions, I have set High Alert, Medium Alert and Low Alert all to Ignore. But it still alerts me.
I am trying to unstall programs/software under Vista home Premium with no success. The system is saying "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation".I am unstalling not installing.I am logged into my computer as myself and am setup as a administrator.
I have few programs that I wanted to run as Administrator from startup for normal user. I tried Task Scheduler and it worked but I didn't have icons for these programs in a tray so I could not control these programs. Quite a bit of searching with google brought me to CPAU It is command line program which allows to run programs as different users. In my copied this program to C:WINDOWS directory and created shortcuts in Startup folder............
Trying to get "AMD Overdrive" to run on my computer. No matter how many times I try to add permissions under the main exe, I get "AOD failed to start. Please make sure run it as administrator." It doesnt matter if I shift+right click and "run as" administrator. Anyone know of a thing that could be keeping me? Been trying to get it to work for a week or 2
I am the administrator for my computer, I sign in and go to my control panel and when I select a program I want to unistall it says "the system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation" for one I am the system administrator and I am trying to uninstall, not to install, this is really starting to tick me off. I have went to the trouble section on windows. I have right clicked on it and tried to even check in as administrator and that option is not available in control panel, it is in menu options, but it does not let me uninstall in menu opitions.
I'm running windows home premium 32-bit on a personal computer; no network administrators or anything, no users other than myself, and no other user accounts other than this one, which is marked as administrator. I seem to be unable to run windows update as an administrator, though. When I go to change the settings, they ones for when windows update runs(the four that control what it does automatically and what it prompts me for, as well as the time and frequency it would run automatically) are grayed out. There's a note at the top that some of these may only be accessible my my system administrator(me). This is a picture of the settings page: i29.tinypic.com/jfc2ut.jpg
I tracked down wuapp.exe in system32 and tried to run that as an administrator via right click; no change in behavior. Tried to go and check the "run as administrator" box in its properties, but that's disabled. That seems to be true of everything in the system32 folder, perhaps there's some way I can circumvent this block?...............
If you are like me and use the search box in the new Start Menu in Windows Vista as a run box, you can run any command you type in as an administrator by holding down CTRL + Shift and then pressing Enter.
Say you want to start command prompt as administrator: ...
I set up my Vista installation so that I am administrator with all priviledges. I now have installed an old HDD and want to remove the Windows folder. Vista says that I don't have access. I have checked the attributes and nothing is read only. I also have tried the DOS prompt and DEL *.* How do I remove the folder??
I recently had a major computer problems are due to installing an errant copy of SP2 on my Vista Ultimate + SP1. I was fortunately able to recover everything and I'm back in business except that Windows Update only does Windows; it no longer does stuff like look for updates for Office. When I try to include these kind of things I get told I have to log in as Administrator or become a member of the Administrators Group. I am logged on as an administrator with administrator privileges.
now i tried to run sysprep for Windows Vista i just install on the PCs, but i was not success to do it. When run sysprep with this command "sysprep /oobe /generalize /unattend:unattend.xml" it will auto delete all drivers installed on vista. The things there are i want to make 1 image Vista Bussiness installed drivers, default enabled administrator account (normally when run sysprep it will disabled administrator account).
I am running Windows Vista Premium Home SP1. When I boot my computer, Windows Defender doesn't start automatically. It works fine if I start it manually. I have never run Windows OneCare, MSCONFIG shows it set to start, the Windows Defender service is set to automatic and Tools | Options has all the checkboxes checked.
One program is blocked. I have not been able to locate it in any start up folder, but it still shows up in Software Explorer's "StartUp Programs", with a "Not Yet Classified"Classification. When I try to "Disable" the program from Software Explorer, it grays out the Disable Button. Alternatively I have added the program to Advanced Options "Do not Scan...". No effect. I would prefer not to uninstall the program, but Defender's constant flagging is annoying.
I have just got myself a new computer and everything is working fine, except I cannot get Windows Defender to open. No matter what I try I get a message saying that the service has been prevented from starting and that I should start it manually. Can someone out there please tell me how I might do this?
Vista Home Premium. Windows defender won't start. Get some error message... 0x800106ba. Also... when I boot all security is turned off. I turn it all on again but when boot again its off again.
The computer has worked fine since then, I've used the internet at wi-fi hotspots around my city, with never a single problem...until last night. While I was on-line at home, I was checking a website that I have always checked before without issue when my Windows Defender suddenly popped open and said that my computer was under threat and blocked Internet Explorer from me and started running a diagnosic. Well apparently it said that I had like 26 infections in my computer. That I had worms, spyware, adware, that someone was watching my key logs, etc, etc, and it gave me the option to click on the remove all. So I clicked on it, but instead of doing anything, another message box appeared saying that my Windows Defender is not the full version and that I must either purchase the full version or enter my key code for it. I don't have a key code since I never bought this program, was pre-installed.
Anyways, now whenever I try to open Internet Explorer, the Windows Defender pops up and says that my IE is infected and asks if I would like to purchase the full Windows Defender. I have clicked on both options. If I say "no", the computer blocks my IE, if I say yes, it opens my IE, but instead of taking me to a Windows website, it takes me to www.antivirus-care.com, which my browser says does not exist and instead takes me to another page with a listing of anti-virus program sites to buy from. Well, all this seems fishy to me because I can't do anything with the Windows Defender program. I can't turn it off, I can't change its settings, or even look at other options it has. Instead whenever I try the message window of "would I like to buy the full version now?" appears and keeps appearing.
I have Vista and I accidentally put my name in as the administrator when I setup my laptop, for work purposes it's supposed to be named "Administrator". I try to change it but I get a message "The specified account name is not valid, because there is already an account with that name. Please try a different name". Is there a way to change it?
I am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition. I am the only user on my computer. I am the administrator. I have UAC disabled. When running certain programs however I get a message telling me that I need to be Administrator to run this program. It has happened a couple of times but I haven't really paid attention to it due to it being resolved automatically or me not really caring. I try the "run as administrator" option, but it doesn't change anything.
I'm very disappointed that windows mail doesn't support folders in the contact area. I hope some one from Microsoft see this and they reconsider putting a update to re add this feature. I just got this computer and already I want to send it back. I really need folders to keep my contacts sorted. Either add the option or let me download the old Outlook to install. And buying Office outlook is not a option.
My OS is Windows Vista Business and I am attempting to disable the auto startup of a program. I located the program in Windows Defender, Category: Startup Programs but all options to "Remove, Disable and Enable" are grayed out. I also noticed the majority though not all auto startup programs in the Startup Category are grayed out. Why is this? What other course of action may I take to disable the unneeded auto startup of unnecessary programs? Also, my inquiry pertains specifically to an HP Digital Camera software.
Defender alerts me that it is blocking some start-up programs (little yellow speech-bubble in sys-tray says "Click here to see which programs are being blocked"). When I click the alert it opens Defender, but there is no indication of which program has been blocked. How can I find out?
I'm receivng numerous messages that tell me I'm not logged on to my computer as the Administrator. The message says the installer requires the user to be logged on as Administrator and that I'm supposed to do this. This problem reoccurred several days ago and this message pops up every 5 minutes or so. Additionally, it affects outgoing mail as well by either not sending it immediately or delaying sending it. I'm the only person using this computer. I am using Windows Vista anmd this happened a lot for a while, then stopped, then started agin. but this time it seems to have returned with a vengance.
I have tried reading the other help questions on this and tried doing some of the answers with no success.
All my windows updates are failing. I'm being told I have to be the administrator to go in and delete corrupted logs/ etc. I am the administrator on this computer but I did not set up any password. Most common windows update error is Windows Update error 8007000b.
When I have the command prompt up it shows users ose. I have tried right clicking and do not get administrator in the drop down menu. I type in fsutil resource setautoreset true C:. and an reply comes back that I must run it as a administator. I have also tried keying this in just at the c: prompt. I see that I am the administrator of the computer so is that why I do not get the drop menu on the right click to show administrator?
The other problem I have is I can't get manual defrag to work. I just erased 11 gigs out of my recycle bin and wanted to run defrag. I'm almost ready to go out and buy a 3rd party defrag..
I have had advise on the net to go to start search - type cmd, or command prompt then select run as administrator - but I don't get any drop downs or options i just have a comand prompt C>?
I built and set up a new PC with Vista and all is well. I have adminstrator privileges but, out of curiosity, how would I log in as the Adminstrator? In XP I hit F8 when booting and in Safe Mode I could log is as the Adminstrator or any other user. In Vista Adminstrator is not an option in Safe Mode. I don't know that I have a need for this, but I did set up an Adminstrator account, and would like to test it.
