The UAC Control Stops 2 Programs And I'm Not Able To Let These Programs Load With

Mar 26, 2008

I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.

Windows Defender Or Manage Windows Start Up Programs Window Comes Up Saying "contact Administrator" Administrator

May 20, 2010

We're on a network and all the pcs only have one user and therefore I am administrator of all. One pc now won't let me access stuff. When I try and go into Windows defender or Manage windows start up programs, a window comes up saying "contact Administrator". ?? Can't access folder options either. There's a virus on it (darn kids) which I'm trying to get rid of (despite having McAfee, Windows defender, Ad-Aware and Stinger). Could it be the virus causing this? which is hard of course to get rid of if I can't have any access to security files.

Running As Administrator Password

May 15, 2010

I have had my computer with Windows Vista for a couple of years now, and I keep forgetting to ask about this. Anytime I open or run something that requires Administrative usage in my computer, it prompts me to do so, however does not ask for any password to continue. I have been on other computers with Vista that prompt you to enter your Administrative password when something needs to be run via the Administrator. How do I set up my account to prompt the user for the Administrative password when running something as an Administrator?

Can't Print Running Adobe PDF As Administrator

Aug 21, 2008

First this is a Windows issue not Adobe. I can print just fine with my user account (which has admim priviledges) when running the program in normal mode. If I run adobe as administrator (I have to run this way and I'll explain below) it says I have to choose a printer before performing this action. If I log directly into my admin acct then I have no problem printing.

NOTES:

I have to run in adim mode because I print pdf docs from my email program and I have to run it in admim mode to get it to work properly. I use AdvantageXI email program that is associated with my database software I use for work.

I've got a program that will only work properly if I use "Run as Administrator", despite being logged in as an administrator. Is there a way I can fix this, so it runs normally? PS, I know I shouldn't be running as administrator, but this is a PC that is rarely connected to the Internet, and used for two or three specific tasks.

Running 32 Bit Programs In 64 Bit?

May 8, 2009

I am considering a purchase of a new PC running Windows Vista 64 bit. I have some questions.

Will some of my 32 bit programs run on Vista 64 bit? I am thinking about Firefox 3 and Thunderbird 2 especially. Does Vista 64 have a compatibility mode where I can run 32 bit applications? If yes, does the compatibility mode actually work?

I am planning on some multimedia work recording music and video. I know that I need a second hard drive. One for the OS and one to record to. The model of PC that I am considering has a RAID configuration using two hard drives. How would these drives appear to me in Vista 64 bit? As one drive? As two? If it is one drive, can I set a partition to have the two drives I need? If so, are partitions difficult to setup?

What are your opinions on the 64 bit system? Is this the future and eventually everything will be going 64 bit, or will it fade out as a good idea that never happened? The PC I am looking at is expensive and I wish to know if it will be useful for a long time.

Is Vista 64 going to be the current OS and more and more companies will be supporting it? Is Vista going to be around for a long time? I am seeing buzz about Windows 7. When would Windows 7 be out and would it require 64 bit?

Choosing Which Programs To Remove From Startup?

May 16, 2008

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1501 with Vista on it. It has the typical performance problems that have been noted for laptops running Vista. It receives a "Windows Experience Index" of 2.0. The first thing you are told to do to improve performance is eliminate programs from startup. But when I go through the long list of programs, I often can't tell what they do. For instance, I see in this list "Avantquest
Digital Line Detection," "Dell Quick Set," "Synaptics Pointing Device," and "Java (TM) Platform SE 6U5," among many others. Do I just start experimenting and see what happens when I turn them off? That seems very risky. After all, that "pointing device"--that's my touchpad, isn't it? If I turned off my touchpad, I think my computer would be useless to me, because I do not know how to turn the touchpad on again without the touchpad. In short:is there a way to know which programs would be the best ones to turn off? In case it is not already obvious, I do not know a lot about computers. My experience with Vista has been frustrating, because I feel like I do not have the specialized technical training required to make my laptop work well.
