I am just eager to know if there is a method to check if the programs are executed in desired sequence during the startup of the windows without actually restarting windows? Should i need to restart for sure to check it?

How do I prevent the message that pops up several times when I start/restart Windows Vista? Even once would be enough....
I have installed BOINC client and Vista blocks it after logon, so I wanted to enable it, but why the hell should I do it? :o It shows as "not yet classified", but the only active buttons are remove and disable! Meanwhile it scans, so shall I wait until it scans whole drive and then it will be active or what should I do to permanently enable this?

I located the program in Windows Defender, Category: Startup Programs but all options to "Remove, Disable and Enable" are grayed out. I also noticed the majority though not all auto startup programs in the Startup Category are grayed out. Why is this? What other course of action may I take to disable the unneeded auto startup of unnecessary programs? Also, my inquiry pertains specifically to an HP Digital Camera software.

This happens with 7-8 programs, but as soon as this is done. i can re run the programs afterwords without any problems. Any ideas why this happens and how to fix it? ive run a virus scan and spyware scan and nothing has come up.

It receives a "Windows Experience Index" of 2.0. The first thing you are told to do to improve performance is eliminate programs from startup. But when I go through the long list of programs, I often can't tell what they do. For instance, I see in this list "Avantquest
Digital Line Detection," "Dell Quick Set," "Synaptics Pointing Device," and "Java (TM) Platform SE 6U5," among many others. Do I just start experimenting and see what happens when I turn them off? That seems very risky. After all, that "pointing device"--that's my touchpad, isn't it? If I turned off my touchpad, I think my computer would be useless to me, because I do not know how to turn the touchpad on again without the touchpad. In short:is there a way to know which programs would be the best ones to turn off? In case it is not already obvious, I do not know a lot about computers. My experience with Vista has been frustrating, because I feel like I do not have the specialized technical training required to make my laptop work well.
So recently I went into msconfig to disable unwanted startup programs. However I noticed one file that stands out and I'm not sure if it spyware or something else that could be a threat. MAagent.exe is in the start up tab and the description for the file is in korean. I tried googling the file and there was nothing I could find about it.

View 8 Replies View RelatedA friend had issues with his laptop, the system (Vista Home Premium)came with lots of preinstalled acer software, he had tried getting rid of them but had no luck, anyhow, he ended up turning off all the startup programs in system config, upon rebooting, he had the error no os found, i have since managed to get passed htis, however i cannot get any further.
The HD is recognised in Bios. The repair from a disc was completed Now it will boot into windows but nothing, no user, no task bar, nothing just an arrow on the screen with a background. I have tried removing memory and starting up repair for a second time bootsect via cmd nothing, i cant boot into safe mode, it just loops back to normal boot, it has no restore points.
I only have vista basic and vista business discs, and he does not have a disc, it came with a partition, i have tried recovery but it tells me there is not backup, yet i can get the task manager up and into cmd, this shows me all the files, so i know there is no issue there. I am assuming that the boot file in boot.ini is up the duff. Is there any way i can get this thing to boot up with his user and all back to normal?
Was using the program explorer to try to cleanup what gets loaded and probably went too far too fast. Didn't realize on of the default startup programs enabled thumbnail viewing. Got tired of the popup messages that there were disabled programs and chose to delete blocked programs. Anybody know which one that is and how I get it to load up again? It is faster though:>)

When i go into my downloads folder, a message comes up saying Windows Expolorer is not working. then .. Restarting and my whole desktop refreshes... I wonder because I installed a microsoft update which i dont think installed properly crashed my computer, so i did a system restore. That was a week before this problem arose.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi saw a video of someone i subscribed to on Internet, and he posted a video about a 'god mode' folder, and it was real, except he forgot to put '32 bit only'.., so what it was was you had to made a new empty folder on your desktop, and rename it something like 'godmode.{j74h37858g83e453e4g74c}' but right after i did, the folder disappeared, and windows explorer kept restarting about every 5-10 seconds, and i was just lucky i had another user on this computer which does still work. but i really need that first account back (it was the administrator account). so yeah, any thoughts on this would be helpful. *also, i forgot to note that safe mode doesn't work either; the screen just keeps flashing black every 5-10 seconds, which is obviously still the windows explorer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI let my mom use my laptop while I was sleeping, absolutely NO problems with it it's an HP with vista and when I got it from her and turned it on the speaker volume had an x over it and when I put the mouse over it it says No Audio Device found or somethin and alsooo wifi isn't working i switch the button to on yet it shows no sign of any wifi being on, and then the worst of all it keeps jus shutting itself down after being on for 3 minutes or so and then restarts by itself then when I log in again it jus does it all over again. If I boot it in safe mode it has the speaker pornlems and no Internet wifi signs but it doesn't shut off by itself.

I followed a suggestion to check "eventvwr" from the task manager and it seems as though the fault is associated with MP4splitter.ax My problem (or at least I think my problem) is that I cannot locate this file to delete it. A simple search of the computer does not bring it up. I already tried the "change from thumbnails to icons" thing in the control panel but can't seem to get to the correct screen it in time.

BACKGROUND: Lately I've noticed that when I check my email Windows Mail seems to be stopped/stuck while checking a newsgroup for new messages. I've discovered that it may be in that mode (checking a particular newsgroup) for over an hour. I solve the problem at the time by clicking stop, and then it checks for messages and I find a number ofmessages sent over the previous hour or more.
I know of the setting to determine how often to check my server for email. Is there another setting somewhere that determines how often the newsgroups are checked? I'd be
happy to have the newsgroups checked only when I open a newsgroup, but I don't know how to do that.
I heard Mac has perfected this misterious way of checking spelling and grammar in any window that has text. Can the all mighty Vista do that? I have Vista Ultimate x64, about as expensive as it gets, yet I seem to need to buy separate programs to check my spelling in say yahoo messenger or Firefox or whatnot. Is there any free way to spellcheck anywhere other than MS Office?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI tried what Frustrated Gloucester advised but when I clicked on Tools (outside the e-mail window) the only "options" listed is INTERNET OPTIONS no down arrows that I saw at the bottom. When I clicked internet options is shows the usual tabs...General, Security, Privacy, Content etc. etc. On the General Tab there is a Language button below "appearences" but ENGLISH is already listed. Even deleating English and re-entering english as the language does not even highlight the apply button and does not fix the problem. No wonder people roll their eyes when I tell them I use Vista Home Premium.

After seeing that Vista SP1 solved a bunch of problems with Vista I decided I want to go with Vista on my laptop. I bought the full version of Vista Business from the Windows Marketplace. Microsoft says (unless I misunderstood) that there is a valid upgrade path from XP Pro SP2 to Vista Business. I am starting the install from the disk and from within Windows. The Upgrade Advisor says I am ready to go. But...When I enter my key and move forward upgrading is grayed out and is unavailable. There is a message on the screen that says upgrade checking has been disabled.
