View 9 RepliesI installed vista ultimate x64 on my PC. After a while, I ran into some programs that requested I run them on the Administrator account. Not wanting to have to right-click and select the option every-time I installed something, I decided to enable the Administrator account with the command I found on the net, namely net user administrator /active:yes Restart, log into Administrator account, all is well. Naturally, not wanting to re-install all the programs, I simply copied the AppData, Documents and Desktop folders from the previous account over the ones in the Administrator account. All is well. I want to install a program and I receive the error message that I, the f-ing Administrator, don't have the privileges to install the program to it's pre-specified directory. So I go to the ProgramData folder (that's where most programs go) and check the Security properties. Administrators and System accounts have full permision enabled in every single sub-section of the option.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to convert my old InstallShield project to work under Vista for Standard User account. But I really don't know how to perform simple tasks like create some keys in HKEY_CURRENT_USER or install/delete files to My Documents for user running installer. There is Admin rights UAC prompt at the beginning and all actions now are related to this admin account. But i need user account registry path and user documents path. Not admin's. What can I do? How can I access registry and directories for current user?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a software program in which I want to save certain data files with a different name. When I use Save As, the software will not permit me to save the file, because it tells me that I need "administrator privileges." I am running on a Vista 32-bit platform. When I right-click the desktop icon in question in order to use Run as Administrator, the option does not appear in the drop-down list, as it does for other software programs that I use. Is there a way for me to get around this (i.e., to run the software as an administrator)? I know how to do this in Windows 2000, but I am still on a learning curve in Vista.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi'm using vista home 32bit with a user account that has administrator privileges. since there is a built-in administrator account which is disabled by default, i would just like to know that if i would enable the built-in administrator account and set a password and use it as my account and delete my user account with the same privileges (since it's my personal computer anyway), would there be any difference?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running on windows Vista (32bit). I don't think any other specs are really necessary, but I can provide them if they are needed. Basically, I am having a lot of problems all through out my computer, all coming down to the issue of not being the administrator, or having administrator privileges. When I go into Control Panel > User Accounts, it shows me (The only account) as Administrator. However, I am not being recognized as it.
I've been trying to uninstall an old version of Microsoft Office. When I access it via Control Panel > Programs & Features and go to uninstall, it gives me the error "You do not have sufficient access to uninstall Microsoft Office. Please contact your system administrator."
Also, I have an external hard drive full of files that I would love to be able to organize (Moving and deleting files) and anytime I try to move or delete any files I get the error "You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this folder". It gives me two options of "Continue" or "Skip", both of which close out of the window and do nothing. How can I take control of my own computer? I am sick of this
Trying to get "AMD Overdrive" to run on my computer. No matter how many times I try to add permissions under the main exe, I get "AOD failed to start. Please make sure run it as administrator." It doesnt matter if I shift+right click and "run as" administrator. Anyone know of a thing that could be keeping me? Been trying to get it to work for a week or 2
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I my son signs on it comes back with logging off and logs him off. I am setup as an administrator and can log on without any problems, my son's account is setup as standard user account with parental controls turn on. I have deleted his account and created a new one as a standard user, I tried turning off parental controls and I still get the same problem. The only way around this I have found so far is to make his account an administrator. Which is not something that I want to keep this way.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI managed to change the Guest account to administrator type. Tried to amend the type back to standard user with other administrator accounts without success. Even tried the hidden administrator account. The Guest account does allow the standard user option to be selected but nothing happens when this is applied, it remains as an Administrator. Anyone have any idea how to reset the Guest account to a standard user
View 6 Replies View RelatedAs a Mac OSX user I am trying to configure Vista Business and coming up against an apparent lack of functionality with regard to configuring user accounts. I say 'apparent' cos frankly I'm new to Vista so I'm not sure. Basically I have an admin user account and a standard user account. I wish to block certain programs (such as IE) on the standard user account.

I have 2 accounts on my Vista Home Premium machine. One is an admin account with password and the other is a standard account without password (UAC off). I have multiple internal hard drives some of which has folders that I want only my admin account to access. I have denied all permissions for the standard account to these folders.
When I login as the standard user and try to open these same folders I get a pop up message saying that I don't have permission to access them and to click “continue” for access. Then I get a second message saying the same thing but there is a clickable link at the bottom to the "security tab" and it's suggesting to use to gain access. Once I click on that I get another "You don't have permission to change security setting" message in the folder properties window under the security tab.
At the bottom of that window it's also suggesting to click on the "Advanced" button for special permissions which will lead to taking the ownership from the admin account under the "Owner" tab by clicking "Edit", thus allowing full access to the contents of those folders. Does that make sense to anyone? I also noticed that the standard account has the ability to change the type to an administrator account from “User Accounts” in Control panel, is that normal?
I've got a program that will only work properly if I use "Run as Administrator", despite being logged in as an administrator. Is there a way I can fix this, so it runs normally? PS, I know I shouldn't be running as administrator, but this is a PC that is rarely connected to the Internet, and used for two or three specific tasks.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I logged into his account and changed the guest account into the administrator account. Then I did something silly and made his account into the standard account.
Then I changed my mind and thought, I'd turn off the guest account and keep just his account as the main one. Anyway now I have turned it off and I am stuck with his account as a standard account and I cant turn the guest account back on as I have realised I left some files on there I needed! DOH! I have tried to access the guest account files and it says I do not have permission!

Another example is when I go to ask.com and search under the standard user it comes up as a blank page but will show search results under the administrator account. I have windows vista home and 7.0 explorer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 (system specs: laptop 2.1 Ghz core 2 duo, 4 gb RAM, 500gb hd (about half full) nvidia 8400M GS, Avira Premium Security Suite). I have had the computer for about a year running fine with 1 main admin account. Now when I need to create an account for another user I cannot create one, either admin or standard. When I create it, using either the control panel or command prompt, it creates the user picture, making the account visible on the control panel user accounts screen, and on logon screen. However, when trying to log into the new account I am greeted with the error "User profile service failed on logon. User profile cannot be loaded." The standard fix for this from various forums is to edit the registry key of the account. However, on going to regedit I see that no key even exists for the account. On further investigation I discover that no user files have been created either. I attempted a system restore, but discovered that all my past restore points were gone, and intruigingly, the computer had stopped createing 24 hour checkpoints. I cannot say for definite whether it was this issue or another one that caused system restore to mess up, as I don't check my system restore all that often. Either way, system restore is not an option. There have been mentions of a full Vista reinstall, though if at all possible I would like to avoid this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedBoth apart is quite straightforwad. Go to Options and select which you desire. But I am NOT able to achieve both. Tried two approaches: First I made a BMP-file with my signature and logo and used the stationary wizard to put that on left bottom of my messages. In the wizard I can also change the font and size. Easily done. But ... when I compose a mail the bitmap doesn't go down with the text which makes this approach quite useless.
Secondly I made a HTM-document with Word and again placed my signature and logo on the bottom. In Mail itself I tell to use font Calibri 12. The HTML-text scrolls nicely down when I compose a mail but it KEEPS typing in dull times New Roman 12. The 2nd approach is closest to what I desire apart from the font. Maybe there is a 3rd approach which I haven't found. Maybe there is a simple solution.
I am trying to install software that I downloaded, but cannot. I keep on getting an error message saying I must log in as an administrator. I am the sole owner/user of my laptop.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had installed a realestate program called Agent Office successfully, my client attempted an online upgrade to a new version and it blew up the new/old agent office installation. I did the uninstall from windows of the apps, even used perfect uninstaller and removed all remnants, upon attempting to install started to get the 1607 Install Shield Scripting runtime error, googled and tried numerous fixes.
As of now I have UAC Disabled, recreated windows temp, copied the installation to the x86 programs folder and tried to install from there, verified permissions and now when I try to install it I'm getting Invalid Program/System Directory error and still cannot install.
