The whole administration thing. Obviously if I am the only account on the computer, I'm going to be the administrator. I was downloading a program earlier, and when I went to install it, I was given the error "You must be logged in as an administrator when installing this program"

View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried to change my SID number (Security Identifier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) with a program called newsid.exe (NewSID v4.10) and it closed out before it was done. Before this happened, I had only one account named 'Rhodes' with administrative privileges and no password. Then I restarted my computer and it had an account named 'Rhodes' and an account name 'Other User'. I clicked on Rhodes (it still had no password) and it went to my desktop but the desktop looked like it was when I first got it, at factory default settings. Everything I had downloaded was gone, including my music, programs, and pictures.
All my settings had been reset to default. And administrative rights were gone. The first thing I did was look at my Users in Control Panel and all I saw was 'Rhodes' and disabled 'Guest'. I didn't see 'Other User' here so I went and looked on my C Drive and found the 'Users' folder and checked in there. It has a 'Rhodes' and a 'Rhodes.RhodesPC'. If I click on 'Rhodes' it tells me I don't have permission to access this folder. If I click on Rhodes.RhodesPC it brings me to the folders of the account I am currently on (the 'Rhodes' without administrative privileges). I have tried creating a new administrator account a few different ways (including an elevated command prompt in safe mode) but I can't get anything to work. And I can't get to the hidden administrator account in Vista, I tried that too. What I'd like to do is gain access to my old 'Rhodes' account, the one with administrative rights. I tried System Restore but I get the error 'There was an unexpected error: Class not reigstered (0x80040154) Please close System Restore and try again.
I keep on getting this message once once in a while when using my computer.

Must be some new feature they never advertised, but should!!The other day, Vista (Ultimate 64) was nagging me to reboot after installing some updates.. I kept putting it off but finally it wouldn't let me put it off for as long. In any event, I walked away to get some lunch and when I got back, my PC had been rebooted. I logged back in and things looked like it was starting up normally..But then I see down my taskbar, that I have three programs still open!! I'm like WTF? How is this possible?!?! They were: Outlook, an Unsent/Saved Draft of an email, and another Email which was just open. My web browser windows, and multiple tabs, were all gone though..OR WERE THEY!? I opened IE7 to begin getting my desktop back in order and get my email tabs all opened up, when suddenly I saw that IE7 had all my tabs in it as soon as it loaded!! I could not believe this!!
What's REALLY weird, and I think is confirmation that something had happened, was that I now had 4 tabs in one IE7 instance, whereas before I had two instances of IE7 (cascaded horizontally on my 22" widescreen displays) each with 2 tabs - one set was for email and one was for forums I frequent. But now, IE7 loaded up and I had all 4 of these COMBINED into a single IE7 instance (which btw, I'm trying to figure out how to move tabs from one IE7 instance to another, but there doesn't seem to be a way!)..In any event, I can not believe it still, thus I'm posting this here to see if anyone else has encountered this..If you don't believe me (even I will try this again), go and install some updates (not like SP1 but some basic updates), then wait to let it reboot and see what happens!!

View 5 Replies View RelatedHeres the story...I recently purchased a new PC running Vista Home Premium and when I got it home, I wanted to test its graphics, so I downloaded the free PC game, America's Army. When I tried to install, I received an error about ISKernels. When I searched this error, I found that I needed to download some service packs for Invest Sign. When I downloaded these and attempt to install them, I am prompted by Vista to "Enter the Password." Now, when I created my Admin account, I did not enter a password, so I have no clue what password they may mean. While investigating this problem, I have attempted to right-click the files and select "Run As Administrator," as well as creating a password and then trying ot use that during installation. Unfortunately, neither of these things work. Is there a default Vista password or is this a bug?

So I decided to make an account and ask for help. When I try to install Atlas V14 (A program for translations) it comes up with Error 1935 and does a roleback, so i decided to try installing it on my laptop then copied files to PC and it comes up with a side-by-side error.. Create and association in the Set Associations control panel" I have been having a problem with my computer for several days now. Opening all programs causes me to recieve this error message. I have to use right click + Run as Administrator to use any of my programs. I have done some forum surfing and tried several recommended techniques for correcting this problem but to no avail. I downloaded the exefix_vista reg file but the very same problem prevents me from merging it (I even tried fixing the reg extension but that failed aswell). I have run the sfc/scannow in command propmt but that came up empty. I would have fresh installed but I am away from home and do not have the means to reinstall vista. I apologize if this post seems in any way redundant but my forum searches have failed me. HELP! PLEASE!
