I keep on getting this message once once in a while when using my computer.

Message: Error: (login): 0x10e0 The operator or administrator has refused the request.
With xp you can press control/alt/delete to get a login screen up then login using the administrator account. On vista the administrator account is showing as a icon on the login screen. I dont want this to be visible, any ideas how to hide this?. I saw a registry hack but this removes the icon but it seems in doing so there is then no way to login without the icon.

One of my users changed / forgot their login password. Is there a way that I can login as Administrator to change their password? The login screen only shows their profile and I can't figure out how to get to a classic login prompt to try the admin account.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI tried to change my SID number (Security Identifier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) with a program called newsid.exe (NewSID v4.10) and it closed out before it was done. Before this happened, I had only one account named 'Rhodes' with administrative privileges and no password. Then I restarted my computer and it had an account named 'Rhodes' and an account name 'Other User'. I clicked on Rhodes (it still had no password) and it went to my desktop but the desktop looked like it was when I first got it, at factory default settings. Everything I had downloaded was gone, including my music, programs, and pictures.
All my settings had been reset to default. And administrative rights were gone. The first thing I did was look at my Users in Control Panel and all I saw was 'Rhodes' and disabled 'Guest'. I didn't see 'Other User' here so I went and looked on my C Drive and found the 'Users' folder and checked in there. It has a 'Rhodes' and a 'Rhodes.RhodesPC'. If I click on 'Rhodes' it tells me I don't have permission to access this folder. If I click on Rhodes.RhodesPC it brings me to the folders of the account I am currently on (the 'Rhodes' without administrative privileges). I have tried creating a new administrator account a few different ways (including an elevated command prompt in safe mode) but I can't get anything to work. And I can't get to the hidden administrator account in Vista, I tried that too. What I'd like to do is gain access to my old 'Rhodes' account, the one with administrative rights. I tried System Restore but I get the error 'There was an unexpected error: Class not reigstered (0x80040154) Please close System Restore and try again.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop with Vista home premium 64 bit sustem. The computor has worked fine until last week when it refused to boot. After the dell flash screen I get a black screen with a error message (invalid partition table) By pushing f12 i was able to run a diagnostics test that was normal. I took out the HD and connected it to another computor and was able to download my files and it also appeared to be working fine. Could this be the MBR or some other problem. Does anyone know of a good 3rd party disk to repair the MBR or the partition table?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Ultimate with 2 User ids (mine as admin, wife's as user). On my new PC I installed the ASUS utilities under my id. When I log on with my id the ASUS utiities execute with no UAC intervention (load at startup). When my wife logs on (uses account), several ASUS programs (part of aisuite) start up and require a UAC interaction to approve the execution. The request displays in the Task Bar. Is there an option where UAC does not request execution approval under my wife's id?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with new users on my vista business machine. My current user account is working fine, however when I create a new account, either through control panel or through "local users and groups" option by right clicking computer. The account creates and is apparently all ready to go, however when I try log in to the account, i get an error: "the windows login service service failed the login, the user profile could not be loaded". I also notice that in C:users folder, there is no folder with the new account I created, i assume that is why the error is appearing. I have done numerious virus scans, with norton, so thats not the issue. I have found other problems on the internet but they only appear to be having problems with the main account, my main administrator account works fine.

I get an error: "share is not accessible. You might not have permission (which I know my login/pass does becuase I'm logged in with XP on two other boxes). But there's the paragraph; "Multiple connections to a server or shared resouces by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed, Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again". What the heck I want to keep the same login (ME) to access a devise... is this really how it has to be with Vista?
Trying to get "AMD Overdrive" to run on my computer. No matter how many times I try to add permissions under the main exe, I get "AOD failed to start. Please make sure run it as administrator." It doesnt matter if I shift+right click and "run as" administrator. Anyone know of a thing that could be keeping me? Been trying to get it to work for a week or 2

While sending a message, I was trying to request a read receipt, but must have clicked on the wrong option, so that now when I click on Tools, then try to check on Options, the Option box shows "Request Secure Receipt." I cannot click on it, as it "grayed out". How do I get rid of this setting? P.S. Since my mistake, I discovered the correct way to request a receipt!
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe're on a network and all the pcs only have one user and therefore I am administrator of all. One pc now won't let me access stuff. When I try and go into Windows defender or Manage windows start up programs, a window comes up saying "contact Administrator". ?? Can't access folder options either. There's a virus on it (darn kids) which I'm trying to get rid of (despite having McAfee, Windows defender, Ad-Aware and Stinger). Could it be the virus causing this? which is hard of course to get rid of if I can't have any access to security files.

When running certain programs however I get a message telling me that I need to be Administrator to run this program. It has happened a couple of times but I haven't really paid attention to it due to it being resolved automatically or me not really caring. A few days ago I saw I had 11 updates ready to be installed. 3 of them were successful 7 were not. The unsuccessful were Office 2007:

I received an error: Error details: Code 57A. I tried multiple times to install, all with the same error. I did try downloading the update to my desktop, and install with the option "run as administrator...no luck. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.
I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit.I cannot login to two of my accounts. I get to the web site but it will not let me login. One is Triple “A”. If I go to another computer no problem. I believe it is some type of security setting.

As of last Friday, began exhibiting funky behavior and could not get past login:a) Login screen showed two users - one correct, w/ no password, and one named "user" with unknown password.b) Selecting correct user (and no password) showed wait state mouse icon for a few seconds, then displayed message "The network connection was aborted by the local system" and returned to the login screen. Subsequent attempts to login without rebooting displayed message "Invalid Handle".c) System shutoff button in lower right corner of screen displayed NO options on dropdown only a horizontal line, and did not appear to restart the system. Problem exists with either NIC connected on both client and test networks. System restore to previous (working) occasion did not have any effect. "Safe Mode" (with or without Networking) didn't get past this problem. Hardware and memory diagnostics all pass. There's no new hardware and no BIOS or driver updates within the past 60 days.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm receivng numerous messages that tell me I'm not logged on to my computer as the Administrator. The message says the installer requires the user to be logged on as Administrator and that I'm supposed to do this. This problem reoccurred several days ago and this message pops up every 5 minutes or so. Additionally, it affects outgoing mail as well by either not sending it immediately or delaying sending it. I'm the only person using this computer. I am using Windows Vista anmd this happened a lot for a while, then stopped, then started agin. but this time it seems to have returned with a vengance.

All my windows updates are failing. I'm being told I have to be the
administrator to go in and delete corrupted logs/ etc. I am the
administrator on this computer but I did not set up any password. Most
common windows update error is Windows Update error 8007000b.
When I have the command prompt up it shows users
ose. I have tried right
clicking and do not get administrator in the drop down menu. I type in
fsutil resource setautoreset true C:. and an reply comes back that I must
run it as a administator. I have also tried keying this in just at the c:
prompt. I see that I am the administrator of the computer so is that why I
do not get the drop menu on the right click to show administrator?
The other problem I have is I can't get manual defrag to work. I just
erased 11 gigs out of my recycle bin and wanted to run defrag. I'm almost
ready to go out and buy a 3rd party defrag..
