Vista Ultimate. For some reason, when booting, Vista is automatically logging the computer on as Administrator rather than to my account. I then have to "Switch User" and log the administrator out. This is a pain the the hind portion of my
body.
With xp you can press control/alt/delete to get a login screen up then login using the administrator account. On vista the administrator account is showing as a icon on the login screen. I dont want this to be visible, any ideas how to hide this?. I saw a registry hack but this removes the icon but it seems in doing so there is then no way to login without the icon.

I'm having an issue with new users on my vista business machine. My current user account is working fine, however when I create a new account, either through control panel or through "local users and groups" option by right clicking computer. The account creates and is apparently all ready to go, however when I try log in to the account, i get an error: "the windows login service service failed the login, the user profile could not be loaded". I also notice that in C:users folder, there is no folder with the new account I created, i assume that is why the error is appearing. I have done numerious virus scans, with norton, so thats not the issue. I have found other problems on the internet but they only appear to be having problems with the main account, my main administrator account works fine.

I've got a small network in my office and I have just purchased a new laptop with Vista64 on it. I'm trying to access a Network drive device with my login/pass (it works on all other computers) but not the Vista64 box?
I get an error: "share is not accessible. You might not have permission (which I know my login/pass does becuase I'm logged in with XP on two other boxes). But there's the paragraph; "Multiple connections to a server or shared resouces by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed, Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again". What the heck I want to keep the same login (ME) to access a devise... is this really how it has to be with Vista?
Trying to get "AMD Overdrive" to run on my computer. No matter how many times I try to add permissions under the main exe, I get "AOD failed to start. Please make sure run it as administrator." It doesnt matter if I shift+right click and "run as" administrator. Anyone know of a thing that could be keeping me? Been trying to get it to work for a week or 2
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe're on a network and all the pcs only have one user and therefore I am administrator of all. One pc now won't let me access stuff. When I try and go into Windows defender or Manage windows start up programs, a window comes up saying "contact Administrator". ?? Can't access folder options either. There's a virus on it (darn kids) which I'm trying to get rid of (despite having McAfee, Windows defender, Ad-Aware and Stinger). Could it be the virus causing this? which is hard of course to get rid of if I can't have any access to security files.

I try to change it but I get a message "The specified account name is not valid, because there is already an account with that name. Please try a different name". Is there a way to change it?

When running certain programs however I get a message telling me that I need to be Administrator to run this program. It has happened a couple of times but I haven't really paid attention to it due to it being resolved automatically or me not really caring. I try the "run as administrator" option, but it doesn't change anything.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI use a laptop at the office and at home. My problem is that Vista won't update its network settings automatically when I change from one network to another. Per example, my office network has 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 addresses and my home network has 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 addresses. When I arrive at home and the computer connects to the network, it keeps its 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 address, which of course results in limited connectivity. I have to use the Repair tool each time to get the connection back (and it means waiting for a looooong minute in front of the computer...)

I record multiple TV shows on a day. Vista windows movie maker can convert them from dvr-ms to wmv, but can convert 1 file per project. Converting takes very long, so if I have to convert them manually 1 by 1, it takes too much time.
What I would like is to have a program that can convert multiple dvr-ms files simultaneously or through a automatic waiting list. Just like Windows media player can do with MP3. You place a CD in your computer, choose which songs you want to convert to MP3, and media player converts them automatically 1 by 1. You don???t have to do anything else.

However, it says next scheduled defrag = never, and the automatic defrag does not occur. I have to start it manually each month. I do not know what is wrong, nor how to fix it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows Vista Home Premium and connect to the internet via a wireless router (Sky). I installed MSE a couple of weeks ago, but upon checking yesterday I found that it actually does not update (automatic or manual), instead it gives me the error message "Virus & Spyware definitions update failed. MSE was not able to check for updates - make sure computer is connected to the interned and try again", even though I am clearly connected to the internet (actually using it whilst trying to update MSE).
Having read your forum I uninstalled MSE, used a clean up tool to remove any potential remainders of previous anti-spyware programs and re-installed MSE. Initially the virus update worked fine, scanned the laptop and thought problem sorted. This morning, out of interest, I tried to update the virus definitions again, just to see if it works, but no, I am now getting the same error message again...also, for quite some time now, when Windows informs me that there are updates available and I try to install these I get an error message, plus I can't log into Messenger either?
The other day I recieved a automatic update, so as normal I accepted it since then IE8 does not even load. Things I've tried: Tried to uninstall IE8, but can't find it in "Remove programs" Tried to system restore, but won't allow past the download date Tried Re-installing it, but keeps giving me a error message "you have a newer version already installed on system"

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have gone to "Control Panel" and selected "system" and turned automatic update to automatic and set a time to that it should happen at every day. I have also gone into "Security Center" and tried to turn it on, but it says error:1058 and won't let me. I've even gone onto windows.com to scan computer for updates, but won't allow me to without having automatic updates on. And then it gives steps of how to do so. clicking on START and clicking RUN typing in services.msc to change all 3 things of what it says to to get automatic updates to turn on. NOTHING HAS WORKED, I've defragmented and cleaned disk for the computer, upgraded my virus/ spyware software and tried lookin up for solutions and haven't found any.
