I have a customer that lost/forgot/typo'ed her password. Her Vista Home Edition Administrator's account is disabled. I can edit the registry with Bart PE. Can someone tell me what registry key I need to edit to accomplish what "Net user administrator /active:yes" does?
View 4 RepliesFollowing the instructions to fix this doesn't work because everytime I try to do something I get a window that asks for a password for "ASP.NET Machine Account". I have no idea what the password for this account is and leaving it blank doesn't work. I have a standard login now that won't allow me to create a new account of any sort nor can I make changes to my standard user account without permission from the ASP.NET Machine Account.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I logged into his account and changed the guest account into the administrator account. Then I did something silly and made his account into the standard account.
Then I changed my mind and thought, I'd turn off the guest account and keep just his account as the main one. Anyway now I have turned it off and I am stuck with his account as a standard account and I cant turn the guest account back on as I have realised I left some files on there I needed! DOH! I have tried to access the guest account files and it says I do not have permission!
i just got vista and my cousin et up the accounts and my sister is the administrator. I wanted to download something from the web but i needed administrative permisisons, and seeing that my sister can be a total $@#^% sometimes she won't let me change me to the administrator for awhiel whiel id ownload the thing. I tried to figure out her password but no luck. I searched the web trying to see if there was a way around it, but nothing helped. Can anybody tell me if if can do something here?

Please make sure run it as administrator." It doesnt matter if I shift+right click and "run as" administrator. Anyone know of a thing that could be keeping me? View 5 Replies View RelatedWe're on a network and all the pcs only have one user and therefore I am administrator of all. One pc now won't let me access stuff. When I try and go into Windows defender or Manage windows start up programs, a window comes up saying "contact Administrator". ?? Can't access folder options either. There's a virus on it (darn kids) which I'm trying to get rid of (despite having McAfee, Windows defender, Ad-Aware and Stinger). Could it be the virus causing this? which is hard of course to get rid of if I can't have any access to security files.

So, now I am not sure what to do because it says my activation key is still active from my other hdd. Oh and if it helps I went from 32bit on 250 to 64bit on the 750. I bought Vista Ultimate in 2007, so I have the RTM version of it.

I have a network with two computers, one with XP and the other one with Vista Ultimate. Both computers are wired to a Lynksys router. Before the Vista installation, I had no problem. Now, when I boot and try to go on the net, I got an error message "There is more than one active network connection on this computer."
Th only but cumbersome solution I found was to go in "Network ans sharing Center" where there was not only my private network but also an "unindentified public network". I had to disable the local connection for it then go to diagnose and repair in order to reinstall the local area connection. After that, everything is fine ... until the next reboot.
I've been trying to download some templates from the Window Vista web site and I keep getting the message that either I don't have Office 2003 (which I do) or that I don't have Active X. I've gone to different web sites and each has something for me to download, but I don't want to download the wrong thing. I seem to remember months ago trying to do something with Active X, but the little blurb at the top of my screen flashed so fast I couldn't read what it said. Do I need Active X?

Network discovery "On"
File Sharing "On"
Firewall "Disabled"
LLTD "Installed"
I have read that I need to setup a DNS server, however, I never did this in XP and never had a problem browsing for computers/hardware. What am I missing? What services are necessary for AD?
My interest in Vista Speech is limited to finding out why I am having trouble getting _consistent_ speed/accuracy out of it. By accuracy I mean at least 98%, preferably 99%. By speed I mean at least 80 wpm. (plain everyday words, not technical words)
I normally speak at 160 wpm, so if I speak for two minutes, 320 words get changed to text. Of the 320 words, I expect 3 words to need correction, which takes another two minutes for me to do. 320 / 4 = 80 wpm on average...........
Windows Vista Ultimate 64; Office 2007 Professional Plus; Epson NX510 All in one Printer, is default printer under Printers. Will print test page and document saved on desktop. Will not print a saved or new doc. Document goes to "Not Responding" when print command is used. Do a esc to clear, then Print properties box opens. In drop down menu no printer shown, click on drop down menu arrow and printer is shown, highlight and click ok, nothing happens, does not enter it. Click on find printer get the following "Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailible".
Do a quick print command, "Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup." Click ok, next window comes up "Print Setup" shows as No Default Printer, Printers list the Epson NX510 Series, highlight it but Set as Default Printer will not activate, (remains grayed out), click options- "Word cannot bring up the properties dialog because the printer returned an error"....
Running Vista Home Prem 32bit Normally when working with Windows when you do something that opens a new Window, that new Window opens in the forefront. However that is not so in my case, the new Window opens behind and at times I don't even know the new Window has opened because it is behind and hidden from view. Is there a setting that you set to make the new Window open in front of all others?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWith UAC active the internet is unexceptibally slow. Personal setting do not stick in Windows Explorer. For no reason when setting do stick they will revert back to defaults. So, upgrading to Vista SP1 has not fixed my issues. Was a waste of time

View 9 Replies View RelatedUsing Vista Home Premium, tried Kubuntu. I removed Kubuntu but can't seem to reclaim the partion it was on. I go to Vista Disk Management and find 4 partitions on Disk 0: Recovery (D 4.12 GB Fat 32 Healthy Primary Partition This is the Recovery partition from Gateway.(C 183.14 GB NTFS Healthy (System, Boot, Page File, Active Crash Dump, Primary Parition) 185.34 GB Free Space no further info on this space I want to reclaim the 185.34 g back into the C partition. the only option I get on the Free Space drive is to delete drive or "new simple Volume". C: drive i get only the shrink option.
Deleting the drive won't help and I'm not sure what Simple volume does. The C: Drive has the option to Shrink but thats not going to work either! I tried repairing the problem using the Vista Setup disk but that didn't help either. I still have the Kubuntu disk not sure if there is anything there that would be helpful? I'm thinking i'll need something like Partition Magic, is there a free version of this type of software? I don't plan on doing anything with partitions after this so there is no sense in buy a product.
I have vista home premium on my laptop and have just tried burning backup rar files to dvd but when I hit the burn files to dvd button it comes up with a box that says 'search active caption' and wont let me burn anything to dvd. I have no idea where this app/programme came from but when i did a search it showed it was linked to Bebo. How on earth do I get rid of it? When I right click any folder on the desktop 'search active captions' is also listed as an option

View 4 Replies View RelatedA few days ago i noticed that i would be in a game or watching a movie and vista would switch/crash back to desktop out of whatever i was doing. I then click on the window/application on the taskbar to reenter it and i can resume either the game or video no problem. was wondering if maybe a third party application like abobe could be causeing this? i updated the video driver still does it. i changed performance for Visual effects still does it. i checked all programs in the firewall exceptions and other settings still does it.

Anyway, following the help suggestions of going to "Appearance Settings" and clicking on "Advanced" looks promising. However, for Windows Vista Basic, Standard, & Classic clicking on the Active Text within the Active Windows only get item Windows which does not allow me to set a font. Only a general color and a font color. I can't figure out how to reset the font. The font drop down list is empty and inactive.

I clicked it and now it tells me that my product key is already active on another machine! It is isn't - it's the same machine. All I did was replace my video card.
