How Do I Sync The Contacts On My Desktop PC With My Notebook Via Wi-Fi ?
Mar 23, 2008I know this question has been asked a thousand time, but I can't find the answer with Google - sorry :-) I am running WLM version 12.0.1606 on BOTH my desktop PC and my notebook PC. My notebook and desktop are on a Wi-Fi - so they can Share files. I want my Windows Live Contact list to be the SAME on both the desktop PC and the notebook PC at all times. When I add, delete, or modify a contact on either PC, then I want that same modification to be AUTOMATICALLY (and instantly) reflected in the contact list on the other PC. They are connected via Wi-Fi, so it sounds like a simple task - but I can't find a link that explains how to set it up.

However that is not so in my case, the new Window opens behind and at times I don't even know the new Window has opened because it is behind and hidden from view. Is there a setting that you set to make the new Window open in front of all others?

Jun 25, 2008Somehow my basic active windows text font changed. I think newly installed software may be to blame. Anyway, following the help suggestions of going to "Appearance Settings" and clicking on "Advanced" looks promising. However, for Windows Vista Basic, Standard, & Classic clicking on the Active Text within the Active Windows only get item Windows which does not allow me to set a font. Only a general color and a font color. I can't figure out how to reset the font. The font drop down list is empty and inactive.

Jul 29, 2009I am having problems importing contacts into Vista Contacts. I tried 2 things :
1/ LDIF
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under an LDIF format.
I then imported this LDIF file within Contacts
The import stops 1/5 of the way, simply saying that there is an error
in the contacts, and it stays stuck
2/ CVS
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under a CVS file. I then tried to import the file within Contacts but cannot do the mapping:
- all column headings are lumped together, with plenty of ","
- all accentuated caracters are replaced by squares
Also, with the LDIF method, 50 contacts out of 300 were imported. In these imported contacts, all accentuated caracters were replaced by symbols. I opened the CVS file in Microsoft Excel: everything is fine.
Windows Contacts Replaced By Outlook Contacts
May 7, 2008I installed Outlook 2003 on my computer which has Vista Ultimate so I could use a Dell Axim. Now when I go to fax a document using Windows Fax and Scan and try to select a contact, Outlook Contacts is displayed instead of Windows Contacts. It won't let me choose to use Windows Contacts either. I tried using Default Programs to associate Windows Contacts with it's defaults but that didn't work.

Feb 10, 2009I've been trying for hours, now. My problem is that the contacts fields get all mixed up because they were outlook and them gmail, and now back to outlook 2007. But when I try to export them to Windows Vista Contacts I loose all information. My outlook 2007 is a trial version and will expire next time I turn it on, so I have to get it done today.

Mar 23, 2008I am using a Medion laptop, model MIM 2210, with Vista Home Basic. I have installed the latest version of iTunes, version 7.5.
When I connect my iPod to my computer, it brings up a message in iTunes saying, "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
I have tried both of these solutions several times, and keep getting the same message. I called Apple and they told me to try it on a different computer, so I tried it on my work laptop, which has XP and it syncs with the iPod without a problem.
I have seen on the Vista blog about a problem involving ejecting the device corrupting the iPod, but I do not have that issue.
Can't Get Hot Sync To Work Properly
Jan 27, 2008I bought a Tungtsen E2 Palmone a couple of years ago and it worked just fine with Windows XP. I didn't do anything major with it other than transfer information (contacts & calender) back and forth using HotSync. However, I recently purchased a new Acer computer with Windows Vista - Home Premium (64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+) with 1.75 GB RAM; System type: 32-bit Operating System. I knew the old installation CD wouldn't be compatible with Vista, so I downloaded PalmdesktopWin62.zip from the support page at Palmone.com which claims to be the driver to get my palm to work with Vista.
My problem is that I can't seem to get Hot Sync to work properly. Hot Sync begins, but then gets interrupted by a prompt message "create a new account for this PC". If I click "cancel", it shuts down. If I click "yes", then it asks me to put in a password. I don't have a password, nor was I ever given one. I didn't need to use a password while using XP, and I certainly never assigned a password to my Palm.

Jun 20, 2008I have just purchased an ATT Tilt. It has Mobile 6 Pro on it. When I plug in with my USB cable I get the option to open the device using various programs. I cannot seem to sync anything. I need to sync my Outlook 2007.

Listed below is the debug of w32tm /resync /rediscover ... and the UI attempt to update. Other ntp clients work fine and I am able to do a stripchart command against time.windows.com w/o an issue. So, I don't think it is a firewall issue.

The tuner works fine, the tuner program works in Vista x64, channels are tuned in, and I can watch TV. However, I've just noticed, that if I leave power options on balanced (the default), the audio is fine. But, if I change it to power saver, the audio (when I watch TV on the tuner) goes out of sync. I tried changing USB settings to disabled (under advanced power settings (under power saver), no change the audio is still out of sync.

Remove Sync Center Logo From Offline Files
Feb 20, 2007Microsoft has spent a lot of work on updating Offline Files in Windows Vista with the new Sync Center. For those of you that do not know or use Offline Files, they are simply a local replica of a file that is on a network share. These replicas allow you to work on files you have set to be available offline even if you are not connected to say your corporate network or home server. You can manage all of the offline file settings in one place, the Sync Center.Â
The only problem I have with the new offline files is the massive green icon that is appended on top of any file that is setup to sync as an offline file. This provides a nice visual clue but often blocks a big portion or almost the entire icon depending on your explorer view. This is unnecessary and since you can manage your offline file from the new Sync Center, it is no longer really needed to find out what files are setup to be synced.
Follow these steps to disable the offline files logo from appearing on your files:
Click on the Start Menu, key in regedit and hit Enter........
Can't Set Up Calendar For Sharing
Aug 13, 2009I have windows vista home premium and two users accounts on the pc. Is there a way for my calendar to be viewed and /or updated by the other user on this pc? I have outlook 2003 and I know that I can't set up my calendar for sharing to someone on another pc without going thru an exchange server. However, I was hoping that because my wife and I were both users on the same pc that she would be able to have access to my calendar when she was signed on in her own account. Also, because I can't share my calendar without going thru an exchange server I was hoping to be able to export my master calendar that I have on an older XP desktop and bring in onto my vista laptop. For some reason even though the export files seems to have all my entries, it only puts some of the items into my calendar on the vista laptop.

Jan 22, 2008I have a problem with the Vista program Windows Contacts in conjunction with using email programs. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I like to use Outlook 2000 as my email program. I have the same problem if I use Windows Mail as my email program. I can use Outlook to send and receive email, but I cannot add any contacts to Windows Contacts. Also when creating a new email, if I click on the To… button to get to Windows Contacts, I get the error message “The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If this problem persists, restart Outlook.”, which of course does not help.
I am not sure, but I think I created the problem by importing Outlooks 2000 contacts from my old PC in an improper format into Outlook 2000 on my new Vista PC (which is where the problem is).
Calendar Stopped Notifications
Jan 11, 2010It used to be that when I put in a future event in Vista Calendar it would pop up a notification screen for me at the designated time whether I opened Calendar or not. Now it only pops up the notification if I actually open up Calendar itself, which I may not do until after the event has past. How can I correct this.

Aug 5, 2009There are similar threads, but I might be lucky enough to have a twist on the problem. I have a PST with a main calendar ("Work Calendar"). I created 2 calendars under this (Cal1, Cal2). At this point, I want to delete my work calendar and just use Cal1 and Cal2. I moved Cal1 and Cal2 out from under "Work" to the main PST level. However, the option to delete the work calendar is still greyed out. Unfortunately, all 3 are in the same PST. And now, my MobileMe sync with my iPhone shows my calendars as blank since I presume nothing is under the "Work" calendar! THis is not fun.
