On my PC the longest part of the sync process in iTunes with my iPhone or iPad is the device backup. Taking up to an hour at times I can live without a backup. Especially since I jailbreak my devices which makes ever restoring a backup after an OS upgrade a bad idea.
There are two methods to disable the device backup feature. First, I'm going to show you the manual tweak....
i am about to tell you about what happend to vista on monday and a few other things. on monday windows vista ultimate was working fine i had to shut my computer down because i went to the gym then when i got back i turned on my pc then it went through its usual loading then right about when vista was about to startup after the cursor appeared then i waited and it did not boot up and it stayed at a black screen so i tried using last know good configuration on my pc booted up good then i logged in and just as the log on screen faded out then it locked up then i tried it again then the windows vista splash thing came on then i hear one note of the tune reapeating and the only thing i could do is restore from my backup so i did that and now my computer is back at last backup i did.
then i was using it yesterday my computer was working fine on vista and window vista starts getting choppy with me like its not being smooth and im trying to figure out why im not getting smooth performance plus vista did lock up when i shutted it down vista did not lock up on me on before the booting up issue occured is there anyway i can improve vista performance?
I don't understand how my "graphics" can have a score of 3.4 when the gaming graphics is 4.6...(I have a Nvidia 9300 GS 512Mb). How can I improve this score? I already have the latest driver for the card
Do you have old programs that have slow disk performance on Windows Vista or Windows 7? If so, you can squeeze a little more performance out of your hard disk by enabling what I call compatibility mode for your file system. This speeds up the performance of your hard disk by changing how write caching works. However, if your computer is not connected to a battery backup and you loose power you have a increased risk for data loss or corruption. If you have a laptop your chances are data loss or corruption are dramatically less since your laptop battery will kick on if your power source is lost. Let's get started: ....
I've just started to use readyboost by pushing a 4GB usb stick into the port and configuring it to 'Improve system performance'. I can see its little light flashing, so I assume it is working. Is there anyway of measuring how much it is improving (or not) system performance. I have 2 Gb ram.
"I think the most disappointing thing for me is that part of me wants to like Vista, because there are a lot of interesting APIs and kernel features that really do improve system performance and make it easier to write for Windows" Many of them even work on older computers, and I doubt these features are why Vista is bloated. That is why I suggested trimming down Vista once.
I am having trouble installing iTunes on windows vista 32bit. It downloads ok but when i try to run it error msg is 'itunes setup is not a valid win 32 application' i have checked and version 8 iTunes should be compatible with vista. I can't even install quicktime.
Vista recognizes my device and I can browse the contents of my device. But it won't sync - When I try to sync it says "There is a problem with your connections. Please disconnect and reconnect your device and try again". I have done that many times in addition to reinstalling the Device Center and rebooting. my ipaq is "ancient" by today's standards - it's OS is Windows CE 4.2 but there is a sticker on it that says Pocket PC 2003 Prem. w/ Outlook 2002 and a serial .
My PC locks up when trying to install iTUnes at the point where it is saying to me. "Registering iTunes automation server". Ive done everything that the iTunes help section has suggested still no luck.
I'm out of options. I just bought a new iPhone. Synced it with the upgraded version of iTunes on my work computer. Then tried to sync on my computer, but was unable to. Apparently, I need to upgrade iTunes to 8.2. So, when I try to do that it won't install. So I downloaded the Windows Installer 4.5. Now it tells me that I do not have enough memory to complete this process.
I've read many of threads and googled it. I even went in and changed the IRPStackSize. Every time I did that, instead of changing to a decimal number it would revert back to the default. BTW, I have Vista 64-bit.
I recently did a system re-build, as per my specs. I've been having awful crackling and sound stutters which sometimes appear to be causing lag spikes in games too. (Having said that, I get it even when doing simple taks like listening to music or watching movies on iTunes/Windows Media Player.) I've done all the usual things like updating to the latest BIOS/drivers, but still it won't go away. I've moved the sound card to another PCI slot and checked there's no IRQ conflicts too...
I'm just wondering how the 2x 1GB 5-5-5-18 2T DDR2-4200(Scores 5.9) in my mums computer scores more than my 4x1GB 4-3-3-10 1T DDR2-6400(Scores 5.4). The timings have made no difference to the score when I have changed them and I can play modern games perfectly. Could it be due to my processor(Core 2 Duo Quad) or my motherboard(Fatal1ty IN-9 SLI)? An overall rating of 5.4 for my computer seems a tad low since it's all top of the range components.
You try to copy a folder. It says, not necessarily at the beginning, "Do you want to merge these folders?" It should check for mergeable folders at the start of the transfer. About five minutes later, when it comes to a duplicate file, it says "Do you want to replace $File1 with $File2?" Again, it should check for ALL of these criteria before moving/copying anything, right at the beginning. I usually copy a multi-GB folder and leave for a while after clicking "Yes to all" on a prompt. I come back later to find that my files have not yet copied and there is yet another prompt. In conclusion, when I move a file, it will make the "done" sound, but then wait at the end of the loading bar for a few seconds. MS, please hear my cries and fix this. Remember to vote for this suggestion if you agree................
i would just like to know, is it worth upgrading my current procesor to improve gaming on my computer? Im currently using....Apparently my mother board does not support quad cores, so my question is, is it worth upgrading to lets say...amd 64x2 3800, to a amd 64x2 5200? would there be much inprovement, or am i looking at the wrong piece of hardware to change?
We just recently bought our first Laptop/Notebook...I still do not know the difference yet. I downloaded Windows Vista Upgrade Adviser and it said under Device Details Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family Intel Corporation. This device will not work in Windows Vista. For more information, please go to the device manufacturer's website, Windows Marketplace, or contact your retailer. I contacted the Manufacturer, and he said to update the BIOS, and if that doesn't work do a full system recovery. The Notebook is less then a week out of the box and we are not gamers. I did the BIOS upgrade, the usual cleaning and unchecked many items on start up and I still have to defrag every night. It is very slow to download and the performance degrades as the day goes on. I am wondering if the Message on Windows Vista Upgrade Adviser is a concern. I noticed when it told me to update other things and I did, it never showed that I did, after I uninstalled/reinstalled the program.
Does WSR (Vista Speech) provide a way of selecting _which_ documents to scan in order to improve speech recognition?
Near as I can determine, it does not seem to matter at allwhether my Vista Document folder is empty, or chock-full of text documents, as far as speech recognition accuracy is concerned.
I _did_ check-mark the box that allows user documents to be read, but it does not seem to have any effect one way or the other.
I've 512 kbps DSL shared connection. I'm noticing that my internet speed is going slower by day to day. I had downloaded lots of files from the internet from certain sites at reasonable speed. But now its not so. There're no viruses in my pc as i've installed a fresh copy of windows Vista. how to improve the internet speed. The downloading as well as the browsing.
I was wondering if you know if there is a way to improve Vista's Video Preview on the Details Pane.
The problem I see is that Vista shows the very 1st second of video, while Windows 7 shows the 4th. That's why many of the video previews on the details pane show a black screen on vista instead of actual video.
Would changing the video card on my pc improve the quality of video on my extender. I get pixelation on skin and some motion drag when I am watching my videos through my 360.
Microsoft’s Windows Sysinternals group has released a new virtual desktop utility called Desktops. If you have used virtual desktops on *nix or spaces on OS X you will feel right at home with Sysinternals Desktops.
For those of you that are new to virtual desktops, they are a great way to organizing your work and help you multi-task better.Â
Running Sysinternals Desktops is like having 4 monitors with 4 different desktops that you can have different windows or applications open on. You can easily switch between the desktops with your mouse or shortcut keys. I like to break up my tasks on different desktops. For example, I have Outlook open on virtual desktop 1 and my web developer apps like Dreamweaver and Photoshop open on desktop 2. When I am switching between different tasks I can just switch my current desktop view instead of minimizing and maximizing windows. This allows me to quickly switch between tasks without losing my window locations and setups.
After you download Sysinternals Desktops and run it you will see a new icon in the system tray that looks like 4 blocks. If you click on the icon you will see a preview of what you have open on each desktop....
Trying to connect my Holux 60 PDA GPS to new Vista 64 bit Dell. Vista recognizes the unit but can't find a USB sync driver to install. Original driver is Acitve Sync XP based. Holux isn't offering Vista compatible software. Any generic driver out there that can restore communication between the two.
I am using a Medion laptop, model MIM 2210, with Vista Home Basic. I have installed the latest version of iTunes, version 7.5.
When I connect my iPod to my computer, it brings up a message in iTunes saying, "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
I have tried both of these solutions several times, and keep getting the same message. I called Apple and they told me to try it on a different computer, so I tried it on my work laptop, which has XP and it syncs with the iPod without a problem.
I have seen on the Vista blog about a problem involving ejecting the device corrupting the iPod, but I do not have that issue.
I bought a Tungtsen E2 Palmone a couple of years ago and it worked just fine with Windows XP. I didn't do anything major with it other than transfer information (contacts & calender) back and forth using HotSync. However, I recently purchased a new Acer computer with Windows Vista - Home Premium (64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+) with 1.75 GB RAM; System type: 32-bit Operating System. I knew the old installation CD wouldn't be compatible with Vista, so I downloaded PalmdesktopWin62.zip from the support page at Palmone.com which claims to be the driver to get my palm to work with Vista.
My problem is that I can't seem to get Hot Sync to work properly. Hot Sync begins, but then gets interrupted by a prompt message "create a new account for this PC". If I click "cancel", it shuts down. If I click "yes", then it asks me to put in a password. I don't have a password, nor was I ever given one. I didn't need to use a password while using XP, and I certainly never assigned a password to my Palm.
I have just purchased an ATT Tilt. It has Mobile 6 Pro on it. When I plug in with my USB cable I get the option to open the device using various programs. I cannot seem to sync anything. I need to sync my Outlook 2007.
I know this question has been asked a thousand time, but I can't find the answer with Google - sorry :-) I am running WLM version 12.0.1606 on BOTH my desktop PC and my notebook PC. My notebook and desktop are on a Wi-Fi - so they can Share files. I want my Windows Live Contact list to be the SAME on both the desktop PC and the notebook PC at all times. When I add, delete, or modify a contact on either PC, then I want that same modification to be AUTOMATICALLY (and instantly) reflected in the contact list on the other PC. They are connected via Wi-Fi, so it sounds like a simple task - but I can't find a link that explains how to set it up.
I am taking a shot in the dark that someone might know if it is possible to sync this calendar with a Blackberry device? I am using the Storm model. I have purchased this new laptop and I was able to sync the contacts. I was running Outlook 2007 prior. In addition, is it possible to move my personal folders from Outlook to this email?
I am running Vista 32-bit with SP2 and I am unable to sync the time via the w32tm service. I just get an error on the screen with no entries in the system event viewer. Listed below is the debug of w32tm /resync /rediscover ... and the UI attempt to update. Other ntp clients work fine and I am able to do a stripchart command against time.windows.com w/o an issue. So, I don't think it is a firewall issue.
