I was wondering if you know if there is a way to improve Vista's Video Preview on the Details Pane.
The problem I see is that Vista shows the very 1st second of video, while Windows 7 shows the 4th. That's why many of the video previews on the details pane show a black screen on vista instead of actual video.
How do I adjust the overlap from 0" to about 1 text line, when the spacebar is used for the pg/dn function? Its quite annoying having to adjust the pane each time, when only 1/2 a line of text becomes visible at the top end.

I also noticed the same thing when I had the Recycle Bin Folder open.
I want to know if it is possible to get a preview pane on window explorer. I'm using Windows Vista Basic.

View 5 Replies View RelatedPreviewConfig is a very useful utility written by Microsoft MVP Ramesh Srinivasan that allows users to easily register file types with the Windows Explorer file preview pane.
Start PreviewConfig and you can view all of the currently registered preview filters on your system for the different file types. Adding a new file type to register a preview for is as easy as just typing in the extension and then selecting the type of viewer.
PreviewConfig works great for text based files that windows does not recgonize by default. For example, .NFO or programming language files such as .vb or .cs.....
I don't know why this happened, but for some reason whenever I single click on a file the preview pane no longer generates a preview of the file. For files that a preview cannot be generated it still gives me the "no preview available" message, but for files that a preview should be present the preview pane just goes blank.
The most common files I use the preview pane for are .txt, .doc, .wmv, and other image files. Strangely enough, images still show in the pane, but I have had no luck with other files. My default program for videos is still Windows Media Player 11 and my default .txt program is Wordpad [I use Word for .doc]. Is there a way to simply reset this feature or could someone
In Windows Explorer, the Layout Preview Pane will not preview any documents i.e. Word, Excel. It only shows PDF's, .JPGS etc. This computer is using Office 2003. On my other PCs all documents preview regardless of Office version.

View 9 Replies View RelatedYou try to copy a folder. It says, not necessarily at the beginning, "Do you want to merge these folders?" It should check for mergeable folders at the start of the transfer. About five minutes later, when it comes to a duplicate file, it says "Do you want to replace $File1 with $File2?" Again, it should check for ALL of these criteria before moving/copying anything, right at the beginning. I usually copy a multi-GB folder and leave for a while after clicking "Yes to all" on a prompt. I come back later to find that my files have not yet copied and there is yet another prompt. In conclusion, when I move a file, it will make the "done" sound, but then wait at the end of the loading bar for a few seconds. MS, please hear my cries and fix this. View 9 Replies View Relatedi am about to tell you about what happend to vista on monday and a few other things. on monday windows vista ultimate was working fine i had to shut my computer down because i went to the gym then when i got back i turned on my pc then it went through its usual loading then right about when vista was about to startup after the cursor appeared then i waited and it did not boot up and it stayed at a black screen so i tried using last know good configuration on my pc booted up good then i logged in and just as the log on screen faded out then it locked up then i tried it again then the windows vista splash thing came on then i hear one note of the tune reapeating and the only thing i could do is restore from my backup so i did that and now my computer is back at last backup i did.
then i was using it yesterday my computer was working fine on vista and window vista starts getting choppy with me like its not being smooth and im trying to figure out why im not getting smooth performance plus vista did lock up when i shutted it down vista did not lock up on me on before the booting up issue occured
is there anyway i can improve vista performance?

On my PC the longest part of the sync process in iTunes with my iPhone or iPad is the device backup. Taking up to an hour at times I can live without a backup. Especially since I jailbreak my devices which makes ever restoring a backup after an OS upgrade a bad idea.

What I'd like, though, is for these criteria to apply equally to subfolders and files. if I sort by modified date, I'll get a list where all the folders are at the top (sorted by date) then all the files are at the bottom (sorted by date). I'd like to see a single list where the folders and files are interspersed and everything is properly sorted by date (not sorted by type then date as Explorer effectively does for folders). View 4 Replies View Relatedmy acer 5335 is brand new and has vista basic. when i first connected to the internet i installed all available updates including explorer 8 and vista service pack 2. i also downloaded avg anti virus and sunbelt firewall. the problem i have is that some links in some sites will not open at all, some need a right click to select 'open' from the menu, and others open as they should with just a single left click. examples, on my hotmail page, mails will open with a single left click, but the reply or new mail controls will not respond to right or left.
i can left click to view details of cars from the listings, but if i want to view the extra pictures i need to right click and select open. google search works fine and most forum sites as i've been looking for a fix have been ok too. the having to right click isn't too much of a problem but not being able to reply to mail is going to be a pain.
Example: 785.txt precedes 3241.txt. I'd prefer the old way where the "3" precedes the "7". Any way to change this?

That is why I suggested trimming down Vista once.
