skunksmash got these details listed for me,av been back to the computer store and they are not accepting my return, so am wanting to upgrade diy at the weekend. Av been quoted no less than £50 no higher than £800. can anyone give me a proper part list so a can waltz into a store and pick the parts up? upgrade to dual core? and price, av been told by pc world to change the mother board? but am going with skunkmarsh and the forums advice first. upgrade graphics through x 16 pci-e slot? what one will be better withing budget of £100.? upgrading from 1.00gb to 4gb ram at speed 667mhz? av got 240pin ddr2 dimm pc2 4200(533mhz),what memory will work and be best? finally after upgrading these parts will games work on my system?

I have a problem in my laptop vista ultimate 46 bit the problem is I cant change any details of all mp3 files such as the name of artist, album, genre and the title on the mp3 file itself. I tried lots of solutions such as download k-lite mega codec and divx and the problem still. Also on the details pane on the bottom of each folder. I am waiting for your solution cause I had this problem before twice and I formated the laptop but this time I want a real solution

I cannot change any details of all mp3 files such as the name of artist, album, genre and the title on the mp3 file itself. I mean when I right click on a mp3 file and go properties-->details, I cannot change anything here. When I open that file via Tag&Rename, I can see all details of that mp3 file. But on windows I cannot. One week ago there was no proplem. I used CCleaner to clean my registry and afterwards some problems arised.

I frequently find myself sorting the contents of a folder by modified date or size. What I'd like, though, is for these criteria to apply equally to subfolders and files. if I sort by modified date, I'll get a list where all the folders are at the top (sorted by date) then all the files are at the bottom (sorted by date). I'd like to see a single list where the folders and files are interspersed and everything is properly sorted by date (not sorted by type then date as Explorer effectively does for folders). I'm guessing no, but is there any way to get Vista's Windows Explorer to do this?...........

In my Contacts folder I have set the colums for details as 'Name', 'email address' and 'Department'. The view displays these three headings and Names and email addresses are displayed but not the itext I have typed in 'Department'. What must I do to display details in 'Department'?

my acer 5335 is brand new and has vista basic. when i first connected to the internet i installed all available updates including explorer 8 and vista service pack 2. i also downloaded avg anti virus and sunbelt firewall. the problem i have is that some links in some sites will not open at all, some need a right click to select 'open' from the menu, and others open as they should with just a single left click. examples, on my hotmail page, mails will open with a single left click, but the reply or new mail controls will not respond to right or left.
i can left click to view details of cars from the listings, but if i want to view the extra pictures i need to right click and select open. google search works fine and most forum sites as i've been looking for a fix have been ok too. the having to right click isn't too much of a problem but not being able to reply to mail is going to be a pain.

When I list the dates associated with a file, I cannot get the seconds displayed. If I display 'properties' the seconds show so I assume I have the format set properly. How can I display seconds in the Details view?

I was wondering if you know if there is a way to improve Vista's Video Preview on the Details Pane.
The problem I see is that Vista shows the very 1st second of video, while Windows 7 shows the 4th. That's why many of the video previews on the details pane show a black screen on vista instead of actual video.

just god a new top-end audio interface and using cubase 4. I'm not sure which is causing the blue sceen. I've tried looking in the event viewer and can't see any details about the system failure. write debugging info is set to minidump. is there some other way to check the crash info in a log? or what are the best settings for "startup and recovery"

Am i missing something or can I not simply just display all folders in details mode automatically. No exceptions. I go to Windows Explorer -> Organize ->Folders and Search Options -> View Tab Then i am in a folder that I've manually chosen as "Details".. and i hit "Apply to Folders" button. Well it seems to go away after a while and the folders start showing things in gimp-mode (ie not details mode).

I have never seen this before. Is it correct or is there something wrong? I bought a new computer with Vista Home Premium. The USB ports are showing on the bottom Task Bar (the way it usually shows a Flash Drive when plugged in), with a little computer and a green check. I have not seen this before for USB drives not in use. If you right click it you get the message "Safely Remove Hardware" and if you go further it is called USB Mass Storage Data at Port_#0005.Hub_#0008. This relates to my Drives G,H,I,J. Can someone clarify this?

I have Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 (64 bit). When I run Windows Update, there is no SP2 to install! I downloaded and installed microsoft Readiness tool (KB947821) also I did reset my windows update components but still problem is stable as a rock!! :mad:

Anyone got the time to explain what the heck Vista "compatibility files" are all about? In my case I installed a older piece of software (maybe a couple of years old) on my laptop runnibg Vista Basic Home, the program installed and runs ok, but when I went take a look in the program's folder , there were files that should have been that are not listed, then I noticed listed on the menu where Organize, Views, Burn options are located another option called Compatibility Files, so being the seek and ye shall find kind of guy I clicked on the "compatibility files" folder and there were the missing files.

When sending emails on Windows Mail the full email address and name of the receiver are displayed on the header. The old system i used had a "display as" option and all that it showed was the persons name or nickname. I usually send mail using the BCC option to hide identities so i know that its not a big deal but its driving me mad. I know that there must be a way of changing it to just show a name.

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and it has been running great until this morning when I tried to turn on my computer. It took forever just to get me to a random blue screen where it then stalled and about ten minutes later a box came up and asked me which language I would like to use. Since Wookie was not listed I settled for English. Then another few minutes went by until my computer painfully popped up another box asking which driver I would like to select so that I could run Startup Repair.
However, there aren't any drivers listed! What do I do from here? I have a tendency to push the big button that says launch so I just clicked next without selecting any drivers (mostly because there weren't any to choose from). It then began Startup Repair, hooray! But hours went by and finnaly I came home from work and it was finally done repairing. It said it repaired everything and all I needed to do was restart and everything would be just fine and dandy. But was it? Well, that's where you fit in oh great computer gods. Will you answer my prayers? What should I do? Possibly a mouse sacrafice? A computer mouse that is...

I am connecting an external hard drive (Acomdata 250G drive - pretty standard) via USB to my HP laptop running Vista. I am able to see the device listed under Disk Drives in the Device Manager. Drilling into Properties, I see that the device is running properly and, having re-loaded the device drivers, I have the most recent drivers. The issue: I am unable to see the device listed in Window Explorer, and thus I can't drill into the folders to get at the content.

I have install DU Meter to monitor network traffic/usage...which installs gadget for the sidebar as well. My "size" option appears to have gone missing, and I'm not sure why. I searched with google, as well as these forums, though I could find no answer to my problem. (Though that doesn't mean one hasn't been posted; my searching skills may just be crappy.) Regardless, has anyone had this, or a similar issue, occur? Or does anyone know how to add your own "details" to choose from so I can get it back manually? I saw this: Folder Size for Windows Explorer. I probably need something along those lines, but for the size option instead... Also, if I'm somehow just staring at the list and missing it even after scanning through each item, (Picture included to rule out/verify idiocy on my part.)

When I click on a folder, then look down in the Details Pane at the bottom it shows the number of files in the folder but NOT the accumulative file size total.
I also noticed the same thing when I had the Recycle Bin Folder open.
