View 5 Replies View RelatedI have never seen this before. Is it correct or is there something wrong? I bought a new computer with Vista Home Premium. The USB ports are showing on the bottom Task Bar (the way it usually shows a Flash Drive when plugged in), with a little computer and a green check. I have not seen this before for USB drives not in use. If you right click it you get the message "Safely Remove Hardware" and if you go further it is called USB Mass Storage Data at Port_#0005.Hub_#0008. This relates to my Drives G,H,I,J. Can someone clarify this?

In my case I installed a older piece of software (maybe a couple of years old) on my laptop runnibg Vista Basic Home, the program installed and runs ok, but when I went take a look in the program's folder , there were files that should have been that are not listed, then I noticed listed on the menu where Organize, Views, Burn options are located another option called Compatibility Files, so being the seek and ye shall find kind of guy I clicked on the "compatibility files" folder and there were the missing files.

This appears to be a fault also in MS Office, which claims to take its UI language from the Windows locale but in the case of English this doesn't work. The interface language appears to be American.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows Vista Home Premium and it has been running great until this morning when I tried to turn on my computer. It took forever just to get me to a random blue screen where it then stalled and about ten minutes later a box came up and asked me which language I would like to use. Since Wookie was not listed I settled for English. Then another few minutes went by until my computer painfully popped up another box asking which driver I would like to select so that I could run Startup Repair.
However, there aren't any drivers listed! What do I do from here? I have a tendency to push the big button that says launch so I just clicked next without selecting any drivers (mostly because there weren't any to choose from). It then began Startup Repair, hooray! But hours went by and finnaly I came home from work and it was finally done repairing. It said it repaired everything and all I needed to do was restart and everything would be just fine and dandy. But was it? Well, that's where you fit in oh great computer gods. Will you answer my prayers? What should I do? Possibly a mouse sacrafice? A computer mouse that is...

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am connecting an external hard drive (Acomdata 250G drive - pretty standard) via USB to my HP laptop running Vista. I am able to see the device listed under Disk Drives in the Device Manager. Drilling into Properties, I see that the device is running properly and, having re-loaded the device drivers, I have the most recent drivers. The issue: I am unable to see the device listed in Window Explorer, and thus I can't drill into the folders to get at the content.

When i find it, and double click it, it returns to the screen, but does not show Media Player listed. I know for a fact that Media Player is installed, i can open it. Another thing i have noticed that "Windows Media Player" is not listed in "Programs and Features" in Control Panel.

Ive been having a few problems with uninstalling some programs via the add/remove programs tool. For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!
I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had Vista x64 installed for about 2 full months now and I've recently begun having a lot of problems. One being: 187 seconds. What the hell? Before you ask, here are my specs. Lots of fast memory, a fast processor, 7200RPM boot drive (not listed), and ****ing awful performance. What gets me is that the delayed boot time is before I even see the "Welcome" screen.
My current boot time distribution:
1. BIOS does all its fancy stuff very quickly (about 6-7 seconds or so)
2. I get to my boot loader and it defaults to Vista after 5 seconds (dual-booting Vista/Ubuntu).
3. I then see the Vista loading screen (black screen with green loading bar) for about 4-5 seconds................
I do not know how this happened but there is a folder called "Programs" in "All Programs". The content of the "Programs" folder is a duplicate of what are in the "All Programs" except "Programs" folder. How can I get rid of this duplicate?

View 8 Replies View RelatedIn Vista, when I need to add software manually, I'm unsure whether to place it in Programs, or Programs X86. A local retailer tells me that Windows 7 doesn't have the programs divided into these two sections, and doesn't know what 'X86' means. I've looked through the contents of both and can't discern a pattern that offers any clues. What's this about?
