In Vista, when I need to add software manually, I'm unsure whether to place it in Programs, or Programs X86. A local retailer tells me that Windows 7 doesn't have the programs divided into these two sections, and doesn't know what 'X86' means. I've looked through the contents of both and can't discern a pattern that offers any clues. What's this about?

I just want to see the program folders listed, preferably sorted by newest or most recently modified first, by alphabetically would be OK. How to get rid of the 8 programs shown in here? Thanks.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIve been having a few problems with uninstalling some programs via the add/remove programs tool. For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!
I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen i go to start, all programs, all my folders/programs show up, but then i noticed that theres a "programs" folder within the list, and when i click that, it shows all the same folders/programs that are in the "all programs" list. but then some of the folders within the ones in the 'all programs" list, they are empty, but they show up in the programs folder in the list. i dont know how this happened and i just wanted to know how to fix this issue.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anyone knows what is wrong with my laptop.. Recently my roommates and I got Left 4 Dead, and while playing it would constantly crash to my desktop. It wasn't that big a deal because I could just get back on, but when I shut my computer off, it seemed to have corrupted something, as now I can't do anything on it. One of my roommates had the same thing, where after a restart his screen was messed up, but he was able to clear the problem by installing new graphics drivers. I uninstalled mine and reinstalled new ones, but that didn't fix the problem. I tried it again, but I couldn't get on the internet to get new drivers, so it's using the crappy basic ones. I don't know if this is the right place, and you probably need more info, so feel free to ask me more....I have tried to run a chkdsk, but it will not run at startup (just goes straight to logon). I have been following tutorials around this site, but to no avail. I think I'll give it a few hours then try again and check back here,
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a virus a couple of weeks ago and had it removed, but since the removal my computer won't open up any programs without going through default programs. If I click an icon on my desktop default programs pops up and I have to find the right program to open the programs with. I was reading some other posts and saw one that suggested that I download PC Medkit, I did it and it did not work. So now I'm out $40 and my computer still isn't functioning properly. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful.

I think I accidentally selected the option to open up all files in Internet Explorer when I got a pop-up requesting it when I tried opening a valid file.

I've just re-installed Windows Vista because I was having start-up issues. I can see all the old programs I had in the Windows.old folder and I'd like to have all those programs on the new install. Is there an easy way to do this, or do i have to manually transfer all the files and then re-install them?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy IP which is Windstream (formerly Alltel) is where I 'go' to 1st check my email so that I 'use THEIR servers' protection to weed out virus, etc.; Windstream says once I 'open' the program, it immediately 'dumps' it into my email program. However, it is sending it to IncrediMail (and NOT to Microsoft Office Outlook 2007). Do I HAVE to 'uninstall' "IncrediMail"? I like some of its 'features', but it gets slow. The 'gold pearl' button that 'shows up in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 is gone...so apparently I do NOT get my email 'dumped' there and I think I'd rather have it there. Using VISTA Business on a 64x2 dual core processor w/3GB of memory. This is getting 'old' and my 'contacts' and/or address book is NOT the same in any of the 3 email programs and I can't seem to get 'information' from one to another. What am I doing wrong?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently had someone load VMware Workstation 6 on my new Dell desktop, which uses a Vista 64-bit platform. I now have the capability to run a Vista 32-bit platform by clicking on a desktop icon (situated on the 64-bit platform). I need occasionally to run dBase III programs in a 32-bit environment, which obviously a 64-bit environment will not tolerate. I connect to the Internet on a wireless basis, using a RangeMax Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter. This Internet connection works fine on the 64-bit platform. In the 32-bit environment, I am able to make a local network connection, but I am not able to connect to the Internet. When in Windows Explorer (32-bit platform), I do not see any USB ports enabled. The individual who installed the VMware said that I should not need a USB port in the 32-bit setup to connect to the Internet. Has anyone had any experience using VMware and establishing Internet connections from other than the base platform?

I am planning on some multimedia work recording music and video. I know that I need a second hard drive. One for the OS and one to record to. The model of PC that I am considering has a RAID configuration using two hard drives. How would these drives appear to me in Vista 64 bit? As one drive? As two? If it is one drive, can I set a partition to have the two drives I need? If so, are partitions difficult to setup?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my machine running slower whenever I'm on the Web. Recently I discovered that it was because of one or perhaps 2 programs running in the background even after I close the programs. Last month, after performing a system cleanup with my antivirus and antispyware programs, I noticed that the cleanup process was running unusually slow. At some point, I activated RealPlayer and it wouldn't activate. I double-clicked the icon more than once, and it didn't run.
Out of curiosity, I decided to look at my Task Manager, and in the list of programs running under the 'Processes' tab, I noticed 'realplay.exe'. My RealPlayer program was still running in the background, even though I closed the program, and it was chewing up my resources and slowing down my machine. I stopped the process by hitting the 'End Process' button, and noticed that my machine was back up to normal speed. Once in a blue moon, I get the same problem with Mozilla Firefox, and I have to go into my Task Manager to stop that process to be able to run it again.
So far, RealPlayer and Firefox are the only 2 programs that run in the background even after I close them. How to I fix this problem so that I don't have to keep going into my Task Manager to shut down both programs if they continue to run in the background?
I just installed Vista Ultimate on my PC then after loading all of the drivers and Kaspersky AV everything was working well so I installed SP1. Now none of the programs will load up, I can go to Programs/Windows Update but it does not load. I right click on Computer and select Properties but nothing happens.

Thing is she keeps getting these "popups" about programs trying to run and to click on Cancel or Continue I guess. She has learned to click on continue but then another comes up and she clickes on run I think it is. Thing is that I am worried that where she automaticaly clicks contine, run, ETC that some of these web site give popups about needing this or

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm sorry if this seems a little silly, but I cannot find a setup file (or any files, for that matter) for one of my programs. I just installed Vista home premium (sp2, 32bit), and was glad to see MSVC 2005 listed in my programs list. I did a little programming in PYTHON for a college courese, and want to learn c/c++. Anyway, when I search for the program on my harddrive, I get no results. No setup file, no logs, no nothing. All I have is the program on my Uninstall Programs list.
Do i actually have the program, or is Vista just messing around with me?
