In Windows Explorer, the Layout Preview Pane will not preview any documents i.e. Word, Excel. It only shows PDF's, .JPGS etc. This computer is using Office 2003. On my other PCs all documents preview regardless of Office version.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI don't know why this happened, but for some reason whenever I single click on a file the preview pane no longer generates a preview of the file. For files that a preview cannot be generated it still gives me the "no preview available" message, but for files that a preview should be present the preview pane just goes blank.
The most common files I use the preview pane for are .txt, .doc, .wmv, and other image files. Strangely enough, images still show in the pane, but I have had no luck with other files. My default program for videos is still Windows Media Player 11 and my default .txt program is Wordpad [I use Word for .doc]. Is there a way to simply reset this feature or could someone
How do I adjust the overlap from 0" to about 1 text line, when the spacebar is used for the pg/dn function? Its quite annoying having to adjust the pane each time, when only 1/2 a line of text becomes visible at the top end.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if you know if there is a way to improve Vista's Video Preview on the Details Pane.
The problem I see is that Vista shows the very 1st second of video, while Windows 7 shows the 4th. That's why many of the video previews on the details pane show a black screen on vista instead of actual video.
PreviewConfig is a very useful utility written by Microsoft MVP Ramesh Srinivasan that allows users to easily register file types with the Windows Explorer file preview pane.
Start PreviewConfig and you can view all of the currently registered preview filters on your system for the different file types. Adding a new file type to register a preview for is as easy as just typing in the extension and then selecting the type of viewer.
PreviewConfig works great for text based files that windows does not recgonize by default. For example, .NFO or programming language files such as .vb or .cs.....
I have tried two different programs. The vid starts to capture, showing the preview, then everything stops (preview wise and capture wise). Video drivers? Bad fire wire?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of videos and the thumbnails are not showing a preview of the video, but instead show an icon (see "Attachment 1"). I already tried the following:
1. Deleted Thumbnail cache via Disk Cleanup.
2. Verified that "Show thumbnails instead of icons" was checked via Visual Effects in Performance Options.
3. Verified that "Always show icons, never thumbnails" was NOT checked via Folder Options.
4. I also heard that this happens when the "K-Lite Codec Pack" is on the computer. So I uninstalled this (to no avail) and reinstalled it (again nothing).
The preview does not appear for any WMV or AVI files. All pictures and other videos are perfect (that I know of).
The pic is fairly self-explanatory, but as you can see on the left hand side in the folders pane, there is 2 of nearly every folder.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on a folder, then look down in the Details Pane at the bottom it shows the number of files in the folder but NOT the accumulative file size total.
I also noticed the same thing when I had the Recycle Bin Folder open.
I have a laptop running vista and all my documents and pictures and music folders are showing as empty.. I removed the hard disk connected it to a test bed and run treesize and try to explore "my documents" but telling access denied or showing it as empty.. I donot want to take the risk of doing a restore as there were important files on there..
I am going to try to run it on safe mode and see and also check the folders options as whether it is not on hidden files.
The problem I am having is in the start menu the recent documents bit is not showing any more. I can enable it and it does show up, but when I reboot my computer it disappears again. I go and right click the orb and click properties and I see that the check box for "Store and display a list of recently opened files" is unchecked again. I have not tweaked my system and the only thing I have installed lately was Firefox 3 rc3. I have got IE7 as my default browser. I am at a loss. I know this is a small problem, but it was handy to have the list of recently opened files to hand.

I know that if I click to the far right of the e-mail list the Preview Pane will be empty and a message will show that says "There is no message selected." In order to navigate to my other folders, I have to click on Local Folders, when they are displayed in the message pane. I can then open any folder but cannot transfer files to the folder from the inbox.

This is a rather annoiing and difficult problem, and have searched several times for hour with NO solution for Vista. I do not know exactly when this started, since I'm not normally using Windows Explorer that much. I do not use the documents folder nor the desktop for data storage. My data is always on another hard drive and I an extra internal and several external hard drives. Everytime I open explorer, the folder list shows with Documents expanded. I have to minimize that, then scroll up and minimum my user name folder, then maximize the Computer folder. That is what I want to see when I open explorer.

When using Windows Mail, I have a series of folders and sub-folders on the left side. It used to be that the sub-folders were always closed. Now, for some reason, the sub-folders are always open when I open up Windows Mail.
This is regardless of how I exit Windows Mail. In other words, when I'm all done with Windows Mail, I leave it with all sub-folders closed, but the next time when I open and use it again, I find that all the sub-folders are open again.
The preview of Windows Photo Gallery has a vivid magenta mask. but the magenta mask is not present when viewing the image in "slide show." The previews of Abode Album, Windows Paint, and Apple Quick Time do not exhibit the magenta mask of Vista Photo Gallery. they all work very well. I already tried re-installing Photo Gallery by downloading a copy of it from Microsoft Live. I use my computer mainly on developing and printing digital pictures for my own enjoyment.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI write document in english and spanish, so I have to use the US and the US-International keyboard layout. I have the keyboard bar active and use it to change layouts. The problem is the keyboard layout changes "by himself" constantly. I thought this was attached to the program I'm using, or the document, but it's not.
For example, I'm writing a WinWord 2007 document using the Intl layout, and using accents and everything. Suddenly, I try to use another accent or symbol, and it doesn't work. If I check the language bar, it changed to US Standard layout. I disabled the shortcuts to change layouts, so this is not the problem (I mean, accidentally hitting the shortcut...)
I have tried 2 utilities so far...desktop shock and solways layout saver and neither work. Solway's says a menu option will be added to save layout but it is not there and desktop shock was almost as useless and my anti virus said it was a keylogger. Anyone know a utility for this that actually works with Vista (64)?
I need this because everytime I install new vid card drivers it scrambles my icon and I have to put all of them back which takes a few minutes but if I can find a utility to do this it would be nice.
My desktop layout and everything else I launch has changed to a vertical layout. My launch buttons and other icons which should be at the bottom of the screen are now on the right side of the computer. So as i am typing this the words are from bottom to top, not left to right!!! Everything is working but the layout has changed. How do I get this back to a normal potition, my neck really turns from twisting my left ear down to my shoulder!

English is installed by default as a second language on my pc, but for some reason there is no keyboard layout button on the task bar. How can I get the button to appear? (I have already followed the advice given on the Microsoft site, to no avail).

Organize > Layout menu for viewing files is incomplete. They have no details pane and no preview pane options available. It just occurred to me that I neglected to find out which version of Vista they are running and I'm wondering if this could make a difference.

Other people who used this computer apparently messed around and copied MY DOCUMENTS folders. I tried to remedy the mess, but did so when I was tired, and seem to have made matters worse. Now, when I go to the Start Menu> Documents the documents are not there. I am at a loss as to how to fix this.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI know every one here has this default Vista (even XP) problem. The problem is that the folder customization / layout never stays the way you set it, even minutes later after closing/re-opening explorer.
This is driving me insane. For example, in explorer under Computer I choose large icons. Close, re-open its back to list view instead.
Sometimes other folders will somehow change views by themselves too.This is really annoying.
Someone suggested a fix months ago, but I do not remember how. Would appreciate tips on this. I *do* already have checked on "remember folder's view settings" enabled as well.
