When I open any one of my folders is there a way to NOT have the contents of the first e-mail listed displayed in the Preview Pane automatically? I know that if I click to the far right of the e-mail list the Preview Pane will be empty and a message will show that says "There is no message selected." Ultimately this is what I would like to see when I open any of my folders.
View 9 RepliesI have upgraded from Windows Mail to Live Windows Mail and have imported my emails and contacts. The contacts have worked ok but I cannot find any of my imported emails. I have looked in the storage folders and imported folders as well as all other folders but there is no sign of any of my emails.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a new PC with Windows Vista (R) Home Premium + Windows Mail pre-installed. I set up Vista with two users, both on administrator status. Both users use the same common email address & ISP provider to send & receive emails. When either user connects to Windows Mail the new emails download into their user mailbox & the other user cannot view them. I wish to configure Windows Mail so emails will download into both users mailboxes at the same time, irrespective of which user is logged on. This is required so either user can view all the emails received & can reply to any of them.

In order to navigate to my other folders, I have to click on Local Folders, when they are displayed in the message pane. I can then open any folder but cannot transfer files to the folder from the inbox.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen using Windows Mail, I have a series of folders and sub-folders on the left side. It used to be that the sub-folders were always closed. Now, for some reason, the sub-folders are always open when I open up Windows Mail.
This is regardless of how I exit Windows Mail. In other words, when I'm all done with Windows Mail, I leave it with all sub-folders closed, but the next time when I open and use it again, I find that all the sub-folders are open again.
I do not have a folder pane (a folder tree with the Desktop, my Computer, the Network) in Explorer any more. This is a rather annoiing and difficult problem, and have searched several times for hour with NO solution for Vista. I do not know exactly when this started, since I'm not normally using Windows Explorer that much. Now when I open the Explorer, the place where the Folder pane should be is totally blank, as seen below. (My Layout is set to "Navigation Pane")
I can see contents of folders in the Right pane and navigate through them, but can't see any folder hierarchy in the Left Folder-pane -- it's just totally blank as shown above. Does anyone have a solution? I do not use the documents folder nor the desktop for data storage. My data is always on another hard drive and I an extra internal and several external hard drives. Everytime I open explorer, the folder list shows with Documents expanded. I have to minimize that, then scroll up and minimum my user name folder, then maximize the Computer folder. That is what I want to see when I open explorer.
It is possible to save that setting. I have seen a lot of posts on folder view, but I am not sure if anyone actually talks about the left half of this view setting. Why is My computer now part of the desktop and sub of user? Already in XP I hated that the C drive always opened explanded.
I don't know why this happened, but for some reason whenever I single click on a file the preview pane no longer generates a preview of the file. For files that a preview cannot be generated it still gives me the "no preview available" message, but for files that a preview should be present the preview pane just goes blank.
The most common files I use the preview pane for are .txt, .doc, .wmv, and other image files. Strangely enough, images still show in the pane, but I have had no luck with other files. My default program for videos is still Windows Media Player 11 and my default .txt program is Wordpad [I use Word for .doc]. Is there a way to simply reset this feature or could someone
In Windows Explorer, the Layout Preview Pane will not preview any documents i.e. Word, Excel. It only shows PDF's, .JPGS etc. This computer is using Office 2003. On my other PCs all documents preview regardless of Office version.

For some reason the number of headers available for viewing is limited to +/- 100 even though I have the default 300 set. I have deleted the accounts and set up several times with the same result. Can someone please tell me how to tell Windows Mail to go back to showing me at least the 300 I've asked for. As an example - this newgroup is showing 298 messages, 298 read, 15221 not downloaded but only 106 are available for viewing! Help is needed.

I have a digital TV tuner that records TV shows without the choppy playback most of the time. I save the recorded TV shows to an external hard drive. This is a new Dell computer with 4 GB of memory and a 2.4 GHz Intel processor. At first I never had this problem, but recently the TV viewing is impossible. I have updated all of the drivers to the latest versions without effect. Can anyone tell me to isolate the cause of the recent degradation in the TV viewing?

If I right click on the? Sent? folder it tells me the number of items in there which increases by one every time I send a mail? .I just can't see any of the mails. The 'Deleted' folder is even in bold indicating unread messages....if I could see them!

(no, not porn!):o) anyway, for some reason, over the last week or so, i'm having problems viewing the videos, due to what looks like a lot of buffering. they take ages to load, and then every few seconds, they freeze for a while, before carrying on. a few seconds later, the very same thing happens, so i've just given up on viewing anything at all, as it's driving me mad. has anyone else been experiencing this problem? if so, is there anything that can be done to get things back on track?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI use the Pictures folder alot on my Vista based computer, and recently I was sorting through some of the pictures, deciding which ones to keep and which to delete. Most of these I have copied from my digital camera, and some I have downloaded from the web. Well, after having gone through them all, there is at least one in particular that I cannot seem to delete. I don't want it to just be sent to the Recycle Bin, but completely erased from the computer. I have discounted any viruses or spyware, and checked all my 'Folder' settings, but nothing I can think of to do will remove this file from the folder. It also does not actually show up in normal viewing, only if i do a search using special variables. It only shows up if I type, "*.jpg" into the search bar when I am viewing the directory. I can't however do anything with the file. I can't move it, I can't rename it, and while it shows a thumbnail image of the photo, when I click on it to open it, the picture viewer shows no photo-representation. I also can't replace it with another file with the same exact name. How do I permanently remove this one file? And how did it get to the point of being undeletable. File properties do not show that it is 'hidden' or 'read only'.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was cleaning up my screen and keyboard with windex, foolishly, with the computer on, when somehow in the course of working on the keyboard I managed to flip the viewing area on the screen 90 degrees so that what was the short dimension (up-down) is now the long dimension (left/right). Some combination if key press' will put it back to normal I guess. But looking hard at the icons on the keys... its not at all clear which ones.

But since some weeks, my computer is changing the original look of my pictures to very ugly views. I meant sometimes when I open my photo folders, suddenly some pictures are getting discoloured automatically. Sometimes the pictures are cutting to two pieces automatically. If the picture's background is green, sometimes it is changing to red, yellow or some other colour. But after this happened, I cannot get them back to it's original view at all. I don't know what's happening here. Already I have lost lot of my important photos because of this, and I even haven't saved them somewhere else. I already have deleted them from my camera too. Since I bought this computer, I am getting lot of problems in this. I don't know if it is because of VISTA or any other Hardware problem on this computer.

Didn't realize on of the default startup programs enabled thumbnail viewing. Got tired of the popup messages that there were disabled programs and chose to delete blocked programs. The answer was DEP (Data Execution Protection)was shutting it down to protect my computer..What's the problem??? View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure what I have done but the left hand pane in which shows the list of folders (inbox, sent, deleted etc) in windows mail has completely disappeared.
I have tried rebooting, I have tried going into layout and making sure the folder list is checked but it will just not come back. They folders are still there as I can get to them through the folder bar option. If I uncheck the folders list box the folder bar shows a drop done menu with the folders.
I have a habit to see the date of delete of the files in recycle bin before i permanently erase them. Each time i open the recycle bin folder, the right pane view is always in Tiles mode, even i have changed it to Details mode. Vista has totally no memory about this. That is not something very difficult but i do not know why xp can do it, but vista cant !
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I launch MY Computer, the navigation pane on the left "USED TO" display a Favorites List. It has now disappeared! When I right click on the pane and select, "Restore Default Favorite Links" nothing happens. Also, when I try to drag and drop and "create shortcut here" nothing happens. The pane is listed as EMPTY. The My Favorite Links folder is still on my C: drive with all my favorite shortcuts in it. :confused:... Has anyone else run into this little Vista annoyance and found a solution?
