Mar 23, 2008I used whatever the default program was in XP to view (not edit) photos and it was great! I am having a terrible time in coming up with the same program in Vista.

Viewing PSD Images In The Photo Gallery?
Mar 23, 2008I use Photoshop and Fireworks to create and modify web graphics, I cannot view PSD images in the photo gallery, I have t load PS to view them. Is there a plug in for Vista to open PSD's or a workaround?

Jun 23, 2008When I transferred files from my win98 and winXP machine to my new HP Vista x64, I have a folder that contains photo parades. The file extensions end with PhP or 4PP. I have been unable to view these. Seems like there isn't an application on the new machine that will open the files in photo parade format.

Mar 29, 2009I recently bought a new Vista, and saved a few pictures off of the internet, and saved them to my 'Downloads' folder. I went to preview them(in Windows Photo Gallery, Windows Live Photo Gallery, Paint, and Picture Manager), and they would not show up.
there were 27 files: 11 PNG, 2 GIF, and 14 JPEG. 3 JPEG and2 PNG will work,but the rest won't. I attempted to upload them to photobucket, with the same results.
Logon Process Failure, Failure - Security Options
Sep 20, 2009i was on Internet earlier today when i noticed that the videos were already completed buferring, but the videos were lagging; and firefox was performing kind of slow. i decided to re-start my computer. after re-starting the computer the logon process took extremely long, then an error message appeared: logon process has failed to create the security options dialog. failure - security options. i waited for the desktop to appear, then re-started again. but the perofrmance of the logon is still extremely slow. any suggestions?

Mar 29, 2008I have messed up WindowsMail on one of my machines. For some reason the number of headers available for viewing is limited to +/- 100 even though I have the default 300 set. I have deleted the accounts and set up several times with the same result. Can someone please tell me how to tell Windows Mail to go back to showing me at least the 300 I've asked for. As an example - this newgroup is showing 298 messages, 298 read, 15221 not downloaded but only 106 are available for viewing! Help is needed.

Mar 15, 2009I have Vista Ultimate and the media center has started to show a choppy video and audio when watching TV. I have a digital TV tuner that records TV shows without the choppy playback most of the time. I save the recorded TV shows to an external hard drive. This is a new Dell computer with 4 GB of memory and a 2.4 GHz Intel processor. At first I never had this problem, but recently the TV viewing is impossible. I have updated all of the drivers to the latest versions without effect. Can anyone tell me to isolate the cause of the recent degradation in the TV viewing?

Jul 8, 2008All of a sudden I can no longer see my deleted or sent items in Windows Mail. The views on the folders are all set up correctly to show all and I can send and delete OK.
If I right click on the? Sent? folder it tells me the number of items in there which increases by one every time I send a mail? .I just can't see any of the mails. The 'Deleted' folder is even in bold indicating unread messages....if I could see them!

May 4, 2008i've only just recently got set up with vista (home basic), and, until this last week, haven't had any problems viewing the content offered by Internet, plus other online video sites. (no, not porn!):o) anyway, for some reason, over the last week or so, i'm having problems viewing the videos, due to what looks like a lot of buffering. they take ages to load, and then every few seconds, they freeze for a while, before carrying on. a few seconds later, the very same thing happens, so i've just given up on viewing anything at all, as it's driving me mad. has anyone else been experiencing this problem? if so, is there anything that can be done to get things back on track?

May 21, 2009When I open any one of my folders is there a way to NOT have the contents of the first e-mail listed displayed in the Preview Pane automatically? I know that if I click to the far right of the e-mail list the Preview Pane will be empty and a message will show that says "There is no message selected." Ultimately this is what I would like to see when I open any of my folders.

Mar 23, 2008I use the Pictures folder alot on my Vista based computer, and recently I was sorting through some of the pictures, deciding which ones to keep and which to delete. Most of these I have copied from my digital camera, and some I have downloaded from the web. Well, after having gone through them all, there is at least one in particular that I cannot seem to delete. I don't want it to just be sent to the Recycle Bin, but completely erased from the computer. I have discounted any viruses or spyware, and checked all my 'Folder' settings, but nothing I can think of to do will remove this file from the folder. It also does not actually show up in normal viewing, only if i do a search using special variables. It only shows up if I type, "*.jpg" into the search bar when I am viewing the directory. I can't however do anything with the file. I can't move it, I can't rename it, and while it shows a thumbnail image of the photo, when I click on it to open it, the picture viewer shows no photo-representation. I also can't replace it with another file with the same exact name. How do I permanently remove this one file? And how did it get to the point of being undeletable. File properties do not show that it is 'hidden' or 'read only'.

Aug 6, 2009I was cleaning up my screen and keyboard with windex, foolishly, with the computer on, when somehow in the course of working on the keyboard I managed to flip the viewing area on the screen 90 degrees so that what was the short dimension (up-down) is now the long dimension (left/right). Some combination if key press' will put it back to normal I guess. But looking hard at the icons on the keys... its not at all clear which ones.

Both users use the same common email address & ISP provider to send & receive emails. When either user connects to Windows Mail the new emails download into their user mailbox & the other user cannot view them. I wish to configure Windows Mail so emails will download into both users mailboxes at the same time, irrespective of which user is logged on. This is required so either user can view all the emails received & can reply to any of them.

Jul 29, 2008I have saved about 3000 photos in my computer under a folder called photos. But since some weeks, my computer is changing the original look of my pictures to very ugly views. I meant sometimes when I open my photo folders, suddenly some pictures are getting discoloured automatically. Sometimes the pictures are cutting to two pieces automatically. If the picture's background is green, sometimes it is changing to red, yellow or some other colour. But after this happened, I cannot get them back to it's original view at all. I don't know what's happening here. Already I have lost lot of my important photos because of this, and I even haven't saved them somewhere else. I already have deleted them from my camera too. Since I bought this computer, I am getting lot of problems in this. I don't know if it is because of VISTA or any other Hardware problem on this computer.

May 26, 2008Was using the program explorer to try to cleanup what gets loaded and probably went too far too fast. Didn't realize on of the default startup programs enabled thumbnail viewing. Got tired of the popup messages that there were disabled programs and chose to delete blocked programs. Anybody know which one that is and how I get it to load up again? It is faster though:>)

Feb 21, 2009I copied some old jpg photos from a floppy disk and transferred them to a CD since my new computer doesn't have one and not all the photos would open and those that did had a "saw blade" edge to them...large pixels that don't look like that on my old compter. Most of the photos were 40-420mb. Only about 1/3rd would open up and when I tried to open or preview, I got a pop up that said, "Photo gallery can't open this photo or video. The file may be unsupported, damaged or corrupt. I used Nero 6 to do the transfer and never had that problem befofre. Any advise on a solution?

Feb 16, 2009I have Vista Home Premium and my CD/DVD drive is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-115D ATA Device. I received a CD of photos from my niece in India. It won't open in my computer, but the green progress bar slowly runs across the address bar (location bar?) as if searching for the contents of the CD but it never opens the files. I took it to my friend's computer and he could open it right away and view the photos. I experimented by copying the CD on to another blank CD and the copy works perfectly on my computer. More recently I tried to open a CD of a backup of Word files from another computer. Similar thing - it took minutes to open with the green progress bar slowly crossing the address bar, and finally it opened but I could not open individual Word files. I had to copy and paste them to my hard drive, where I could open them.

Photo Scanner Works In X64?
Jun 8, 2008Just thought I'd pass along some info I came across after setting up my newest 64 bit machine and connecting an older but definitely not outdated Epson Perfection scanner. I really love this scanner and it's auto-restoration features for older photos, so I was not willing to give it up. I found the following website with instructions for finding the correct drivers. Nafcom's Crap Blog!: Epson Perfection 2480 Photo: Vista X64 drivers work in Windows XP X64!
Apparently, Epson built support for x64, but hid the drivers within the installer for 32 bit systems. No search on any version of their support website shows driver downloads under 64 bit. I did what was described in that article, and have my scanner working beautifully on Vista x64. I can say that I downloaded drivers both from the European site as well as the U.S. site. The driver file each installs is no different, but the scan utility is a slightly different version. I went with the U.S. version in the end, it being what looks like a higher version number (3.04a instead of 3.0u... hard to tell if there's any real difference, as there was no language issues or anything).

Oct 18, 2009I now have an ever increasing amount of photos on my PC due to the fact that I have a new guide dog. Anyway, until the last few months, when opening the Pictures folder I was able to preview each picture/photo at a glance - using Windows Photo Gallery - without having to double-click on any one in particular, before being able to see the photo. Now unfortunately, for some unknown reason, I am only able to see the filename of each picture/photo with some sort of cover - Does anyone know which setting previews each picture/photo when viewed as Large Icons?
