Can Not Preview Picture/photo

Oct 18, 2009

I now have an ever increasing amount of photos on my PC due to the fact that I have a new guide dog. Anyway, until the last few months, when opening the Pictures folder I was able to preview each picture/photo at a glance - using Windows Photo Gallery - without having to double-click on any one in particular, before being able to see the photo. Now unfortunately, for some unknown reason, I am only able to see the filename of each picture/photo with some sort of cover - Does anyone know which setting previews each picture/photo when viewed as Large Icons?

Doesn't Show The Picture Preview

May 22, 2009

Just copied some new jpgs from my card reader to a folder full of jpgs from the same card, same camera, same card reader - and they show up as the Photoshop icon instead of picture preview. ALL other pictures in the folder show the picture preview. The card reader folder shows the pictures too! Opened a picture and edited it in Photoshop then saved it as a jpg with a new name and IT doesn't show the picture preview. I cleared the thumbnail cache - no joy. Maddening! Running 64 bit Vista on a Pemium HDX HP laptop. I apologize if this has been covered in here somewhere before but I couldn't find anything (other than clearing the thumbnail cache, but that was a bust). when opening the folder for the first time after a reboot, the picture previews flash for a nanosecond then revert to the Photoshop icon.

The Preview Of Windows Photo Gallery Has A Vivid Magenta Mask

Mar 1, 2009

The preview of Windows Photo Gallery has a vivid magenta mask. but the magenta mask is not present when viewing the image in "slide show." The previews of Abode Album, Windows Paint, and Apple Quick Time do not exhibit the magenta mask of Vista Photo Gallery. they all work very well. I already tried re-installing Photo Gallery by downloading a copy of it from Microsoft Live. I use my computer mainly on developing and printing digital pictures for my own enjoyment.

I would like to customise each folder to display the photos in an order of my choosing but this does not appear possible for the photo gallery in vista or the live photo library i have just downloaded and installed.

Photo Gallery Can't Open This File Or Photo?

Mar 29, 2009

I recently bought a new Vista, and saved a few pictures off of the internet, and saved them to my 'Downloads' folder. I went to preview them(in Windows Photo Gallery, Windows Live Photo Gallery, Paint, and Picture Manager), and they would not show up.

there were 27 files: 11 PNG, 2 GIF, and 14 JPEG. 3 JPEG and2 PNG will work, but the rest won't. I attempted to upload them to photobucket, with the same results.

Thumbnail Preview Gone On Taskbar

Nov 30, 2009

not sure if thumbnail preview is the right term. - wanted to ask about why or how i might be able to fix ....... scenario: when i open a folder....

1. if its full of pdf files (ex.: e-books) i dont see the preview / covers of the e-books any more as before - just the foxit icon
2. if the folder is full of videos (ex: movies) i dont see a small clip of a scene as before now i only see my VLC Player icon. (the big orange cone) was there some setting that i might changed, not realizing? new things that ive done lately:
.....have tried like crazy to better boot time by following the guide at Black Viper
.....at this moment im using the Vista Basic Theme (no aero). really dont care much for the thumbnail previews on taskbar. have checked: when i open a folder and click on organize & select folder and search options under view tab - the option "always show icons, never thumbnails" is NOT checked. ???? have also tried clearing the thumbnail cache by deleting thumbnails under disk cleanup????

How Preview Tabs As Thumbnails?

Feb 26, 2009

after spending almost 30 min (yeah yeah I'm a newb or whatever you call people like me these days) trying to figure out how I can preview the tabs as thumbnails when I scroll my mouse over the task bar, I see that IF you have Vista Home Premium or better, you can change your Color and Appearance to Aero and then supposedly the option (under the Taskbar and Menu section in the Control Panel) for previewing tabs as thumbnails is supposed to be click-able... I have Windows Vista Home Premium, AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56, etc. ... I tried to change the color to Aero and it won't let me, so of course it won't let me preview the tabs as thumbnails either.

Thumbnail: Not Showing A Preview

Sep 11, 2009

I have a lot of videos and the thumbnails are not showing a preview of the video, but instead show an icon (see "Attachment 1"). I already tried the following:

1. Deleted Thumbnail cache via Disk Cleanup.
2. Verified that "Show thumbnails instead of icons" was checked via Visual Effects in Performance Options.
3. Verified that "Always show icons, never thumbnails" was NOT checked via Folder Options.
4. I also heard that this happens when the "K-Lite Codec Pack" is on the computer. So I uninstalled this (to no avail) and reinstalled it (again nothing).

The preview does not appear for any WMV or AVI files. All pictures and other videos are perfect (that I know of).

Windows Mail Preview, Safe Or Not . . .

Jun 23, 2008

Why does windows mail preview claim to just preview a message without opening it and then after a minute or so the envelope icon along side it shows an opened message. Is this safe and if not, can I turn off the preview mode. Who needs it. If I select a message, even to right click it, so I can delete it, it goes into preview mode. Is this strange or is it just me.

Service Pack 2: Image Preview

Sep 22, 2009

I click any image on my computer to preview it in Windows Photo Gallery, it automatically shuts down and restarts explorer.exe and it started after I first updated to Service Pack 2 for x64 bit Vista. Now these images open in QuickTime, Photoshop, and my IE and Firefox browsers so it's only the one application.

I usually try to research and fix my problems on my own since I'm the only one able to at home without resorting to paid services and I've tried System Restore which worked and Windows Photo Gallery/preview worked again but then I had to reinstall the service pack 2 again which let me pin point that it IS the update causing this issue.............

Adjust Taskbar Preview Size

Aug 21, 2007

Taskbar thumbnail preview in Windows Vista is a great new feature that allows you to quickly see a window without having to fully open it from the taskbar. Instead, you can just hover  your mouse over the taskbar item and a small preview window will be displayed.

I have been asked many times  if it is possible customize the size of the preview thumbnails. Many have expressed the desire to have larger previews so they can better see the window. Finally, I have found a way....

Office 2010 Preview From Connect, Not Impressed

Jul 14, 2009

I was invited to download the Office 2010 preview from Connect. Not too impressed so far. It has no stationery at all & the only wizard I've found thus far is the envelope wizard. Office 2007 was bad enough with its plethora of already-written forms and hardly any decent smart-looking templates for business or personal letters, but this one has none at all, meaning not even one.

Generally I see little difference from Office 2007 except a much plainer "look". Which isn't always a good thing. Perhaps I'm being impatient. I only installed it 5 minutes ago but do NOT like it, sorry!!
