this is going to sound like a very stupid question. do u know how to make the icons the actual picture ex: when i go to MY PICTURES i would like to preview the picture instead of this really weird icon. do u know if this is possible in vista? i know it is in XP
View 7 RepliesI now have an ever increasing amount of photos on my PC due to the fact that I have a new guide dog. Anyway, until the last few months, when opening the Pictures folder I was able to preview each picture/photo at a glance - using Windows Photo Gallery - without having to double-click on any one in particular, before being able to see the photo. Now unfortunately, for some unknown reason, I am only able to see the filename of each picture/photo with some sort of cover - Does anyone know which setting previews each picture/photo when viewed as Large Icons?
View 8 Replies View RelatedJust copied some new jpgs from my card reader to a folder full of jpgs from the same card, same camera, same card reader - and they show up as the Photoshop icon instead of picture preview. ALL other pictures in the folder show the picture preview. The card reader folder shows the pictures too! Opened a picture and edited it in Photoshop then saved it as a jpg with a new name and IT doesn't show the picture preview. I cleared the thumbnail cache - no joy. Maddening! Running 64 bit Vista on a Pemium HDX HP laptop. I apologize if this has been covered in here somewhere before but I couldn't find anything (other than clearing the thumbnail cache, but that was a bust). when opening the folder for the first time after a reboot, the picture previews flash for a nanosecond then revert to the Photoshop icon.
View 5 Replies View Relatedwhen i checked the windows help and support to find help for something, i noticed that all the "links" that refer to the help articles next to them have a little box with a red X inside them. (like this box that appears in a web browser when a picture cant be displayed). another problem is that i have deleted all the restore points before taking aware of this situation and i cant do a system restore to try to fix it. i have tried the offline help, deleting temporary files, but i cant find a way to fix this it still has the same problem. i use windows vista 32bit with sp1 and all the updates.

View 9 Replies View RelatedPC: HP Windows Media Center PC m8200n; Monitor HP w1907. November 2007. OS: Windows Vista Home Premium. HP: Deskjet F4180. So I noticed that the printer icon for my printer became all white, IE a corrupted icon. So I went online and found information on how to refresh your icon folder. That didn't do anything. So I thought I'd uninstall and reinstall.
I have tried to reinstall my HP software from disc, and I get a 'new PSSWCORE.msi' file. I see the file on the install disc, yet it won't install. 'Network resource is unavailable.'
Now I cannot uninstall it. On my Add/Remove I see:
HP Customer Participation Program 9.0
HP All In One Software 9.0
HP Imaging device Functions 9.0
HP On-Screen Cap/Num/Scroll Lock Indicator
HP Photosmart Essential
HP Update
How can I get these off my PC, and reinstall cleanly so I can use my rinter/scanner again?
I installed new software and pinned the executable to the start menu. But, Vista displays a generic icon in the start menu for this program. All other programs pinned to the start menu display the correct icon. Any way to get Vista to dispaly the proper icon for this program??

The problem is , i erase something that made me preview images without opening.

not sure if thumbnail preview is the right term. - wanted to ask about why or how i might be able to fix ....... scenario: when i open a folder....
1. if its full of pdf files (ex.: e-books) i dont see the preview / covers of the e-books any more as before - just the foxit icon
2. if the folder is full of videos (ex: movies) i dont see a small clip of a scene as before now i only see my VLC Player icon. (the big orange cone) was there some setting that i might changed, not realizing? new things that ive done lately:

it's possible to get Vista to preview an animated gif. It will show it but not animate it. The only way I've found to see the animation is to drop it on to I.E.

View 7 Replies View Relatedafter spending almost 30 min (yeah yeah I'm a newb or whatever you call people like me these days) trying to figure out how I can preview the tabs as thumbnails when I scroll my mouse over the task bar, I see that IF you have Vista Home Premium or better, you can change your Color and Appearance to Aero and then supposedly the option (under the Taskbar and Menu section in the Control Panel) for previewing tabs as thumbnails is supposed to be click-able... I have Windows Vista Home Premium, AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56, etc. ... I tried to change the color to Aero and it won't let me, so of course it won't let me preview the tabs as thumbnails either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of videos and the thumbnails are not showing a preview of the video, but instead show an icon (see "Attachment 1"). I already tried the following:
1. Deleted Thumbnail cache via Disk Cleanup.
2. Verified that "Show thumbnails instead of icons" was checked via Visual Effects in Performance Options.
3. Verified that "Always show icons, never thumbnails" was NOT checked via Folder Options.
4. I also heard that this happens when the "K-Lite Codec Pack" is on the computer. So I uninstalled this (to no avail) and reinstalled it (again nothing).
The preview does not appear for any WMV or AVI files. All pictures and other videos are perfect (that I know of).
I have noticed that the Notepad document icons on my computer are like a printer icon, they open up in notepad but have a pronter icon.:confused: I have searched all over the internet but cant find out how to sort it out.

Computer not generating them or something. - I have done all the things list here and I still cannot see any preview icons for any files or folders. Unless I use the list view which doesnt show previews anyway for picture or movie files. I have done a repair of Vista and that didnt fix the problem. I really dont want to start from scratch. I also cannot change my desktop image, and any file I try to upload wont change it.

Is this safe and if not, can I turn off the preview mode. Who needs it. If I select a message, even to right click it, so I can delete it, it goes into preview mode. Is this strange or is it just me.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI click any image on my computer to preview it in Windows Photo Gallery, it automatically shuts down and restarts explorer.exe and it started after I first updated to Service Pack 2 for x64 bit Vista. Now these images open in QuickTime, Photoshop, and my IE and Firefox browsers so it's only the one application.
I usually try to research and fix my problems on my own since I'm the only one able to at home without resorting to paid services and I've tried System Restore which worked and Windows Photo Gallery/preview worked again but then I had to reinstall the service pack 2 again which let me pin point that it IS the update causing this issue.............

I installed a program that I didn't like. I uninstalled it, but it didn't remove it's own association with JPG and other image files. I want to reassociate them with Explorer's Preview (which is still available on the rightclick context shell menu, but unavailable on any "open with" or "default programs" dialog).
Is there any way to do this? Maybe a explorer.exe command line parameter?
I was wondering if you know if there is a way to improve Vista's Video Preview on the Details Pane.
The problem I see is that Vista shows the very 1st second of video, while Windows 7 shows the 4th. That's why many of the video previews on the details pane show a black screen on vista instead of actual video.
I was invited to download the Office 2010 preview from Connect. Not too impressed so far. It has no stationery at all & the only wizard I've found thus far is the envelope wizard. Office 2007 was bad enough with its plethora of already-written forms and hardly any decent smart-looking templates for business or personal letters, but this one has none at all, meaning not even one.
Generally I see little difference from Office 2007 except a much plainer "look". Which isn't always a good thing. Perhaps I'm being impatient. I only installed it 5 minutes ago but do NOT like it, sorry!!
Earlier I was told with preview pane viewing on you could receive a virus or whatever, without acually opening the mail message. Is this still the case?

Today I wanted to print a color document and it always shows in the preview as a black and white document (which it is not). It also prints it as Black and White. Yet , I checked all on the printer and it is set for Best quality Color and I just cannot figure out why the preview shows it always in black and white. I have a newer Epson and it shows and prints it fine in color. So the document is OK. It is something on the HP printer, but I cannot figure what.
