I was running a malwarebytes scan in the backround and all of the sudden ie locked up. I tried to open task manager and got a black screen. Then I got an error message that said- logon process has failed to create the security options dialog. Then I got out of the black and there malware bytes was running fine again. what does all this mean- does t mean malware bytes was scanning the file for so long and was trying to verify it but malwarebytes couldent get the security dialog fo rit so it moved on?

following on from the bug i had (ive pasted the details below again) Ive scanned the drive with the maxtor/seagate tools and no problems. It seems to be something to do with the harddrive as if is start a checkdisk it almost instantly causes problems, you can move the mouse but nothign responds. If you try and go into ctrl-alt-delete you get a message saying a 'logon process has failed to create the security options dialog'. It seemed to start when i put an old harddrive onto the system to copy data across, until this point everything was fine.

My PC is about 2 years old now, I love it! Its a 300Gb Acer Aspire running windows vista home premium 32bit. 2 days ago, I was watching some videos online when all of a sudden my internet disconnects, this is normal for my dlink to do that every once in a while, I think its. overheating or something, anyways, usealy when it does that it disables all the usb ports, so this was normal for me, so I restart my pc to get my internet back, but the only difference is this time, I get Bluescreen before the log on screen, it was so fast I couldn't read the error. Anyways it restarted itself and I ran a startup repair, and after that it was fine and I could get back to my desktop, but.....
Everything was going fine, but all of a sudden when I open chrome, my PC froze, I tried clicking everything, nothing..l..I tried Ctrl-Alt-delete....and then the screen went black, and I get a error saying "Failure - Security Options" once I clicked OK, it remained frozen. I rebooted via Power button.........

I have been having a problem with my Windows Vista Home Premium installation for the past week or so, with the problem getting more frequent day by day. I usually notice this happen after a period of inactivity, but the duration of the inactivity is seemingly random. Basically, I will come back to the computer to see that Firefox or whatever windows I might have open have stopped responding. I attempt to close with the X to no avail, then try to close using the Task Bar. When this fails, I try to open the Task Manager to close the program manually, only to lock up the computer for 45-60 seconds on a black screen, and then receive the message "Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog. Failure - Security Options". Clicking OK on this dialog takes me back to my now totally unresponsive computer. No windows can be closed by any means, and the computer must be turned off manually, which I hate doing.

In my network, sometimes my user's laptops freeze during the logon script. Well the computers don't actually freeze, they just don't move beyond the logon script. When I go into task mamager, cpu is running at 100% (2 gb ram and very new processors) and the process taking up the most memory (48,748k)is svchost.exe I think it's associated with the windows search indexing but I'm not completely sure. On the Microsoft support site I saw that I could use the command tasklist /svc to see what is running in svchost. But I haven't figured out yet how to determine exactly what this svchost process is assoicated with so I can prevent it from running all the time.

When will Microsoft fix sfc /scannow? SFC (system file checker) returns a corrupt files found but cant fix message on new PCs. I reformated the HD and restored my Vista OS to factory. I tested a number of new laptops from various manufactures and they all have the same error message. I called Microsoft support and tier 2 support spent days then told me that the OEMs are messing up Vista. Did the OEMs add some spyware or modify the SFC utility? Why isn't there a fix for this very important repair utility?
C:Windowssystem32>sfc /scannow
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time. Beginning verification phase of system scan. Verification 99% complete.Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windirLogsCBSCBS.log. For example C:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log

Bought a Toshiba laptop 10 months ago and everything worked fine. With MS updates (only downloaded defender and Vista related items) things started to happen. Have worked through every problem except can not recieve emails. (Can send with no problem.) Have Cox internet and they determined I can recieve emails through their website so it is Vista interference. Spent two hours yesterday with Toshiba tech service trying to isolate and repair problem. Was not successful.
The problem is this: When Windows mail comes up, or when I hit send and receive, I get a box that says "Windows Security, Logon to POP.EAST.COX.NET" and the appropraite places to put in my Username and Password. When this is done, It just comes back with the same Windows Security box. The Toshiba Rep tried numerous things with accounts and the usual settings, changing passwords, setting up a new account and trying to use that and all resulted in the same "Windows Security" box. He feels that there is something in Windows Security that is out of whack and said to try to delete that program but could not find it to delete it. (I have router so no firewall is not a problem and AVG antivirus.)

I have two 500GB HDD's. I have installed vista on first one and I am using the second one for just storing my data. Today, I wanted to unplug the second HDD [depot disk] but after unpluging it my sistem gave me an error: "Disk Error: Please Insert System Dısk" Why? My OS is not instaled on that one. Then I pluged it and opened vista and saw the following picture:
Vista sees my second HDD [D:] as a system disk. What is the problem? Was vista installed on the other HDD also when I installing vista since they were both connected?

I have a 2 month old HP tx2 notebook. It activated fine when first booted. Used it abouy a month and IE crashed with a BSOD, and upon recovery I have a notice on the bottom of the desktop that it says this copy of windows in not genuine. When I reboot it says I must activate. When I try it fails and the only options are new product key or contact HP. I called HP and they said to use the key off the bottom of the computer which does not work. They then want me to do a complete reinstall which is quite unacceptible with all the work it took to get this new machine loaded to work with.
Can i buy a new license and be sure it is going to take. Buying a new copy of home premium unfair but is way better than all the work I would have to do otherwise. The OS is home premium 64 bit. I would not want to install a new copy because of the driver issues (touchsmart), I just want to use the key. When I try to activate I get: Buy new product key online. Try a different product key Contact Hewlett-Packard to help resolve this proble Have tried option 2 and 3 to no avail.
I would try option 1 if I could be assured it would work without loss of data. HP says to reinstall the OS. They told me Microsoft does not support OEM installs. Why not? There is no phone option. when I try to input a new key I get an 0xC004E003 error. Updates work fine and all my software works as well. The desktop background does not work and it has the not genuine at the right bottom corner. There does not seem to be a count down timer either.

my computer is a Toshiba Satellite, and it will not install updates or shutdown properly. When I try to shut it down properly it says configuring updates I left it like this for a couple of hours and it made no difference. I am writing this thread on it now, and it runs perfectly other than the updates. It has flashed me a Blue Screen twice, and has never had this problem before. I need to know any Solutions before I completely wipe this partition and install XP.

yesterday i was playing on my computer and my pc froze. when i turned it on again it was asking if i want to repair the start-up files or just start, i selected just start and it took very long time loading the windows vista (the loading bar before the login) and when the bar was gone the computer screen turns blue for one second and it reboots. after that i selected to repair the files, and after some time i got the mouse icon on the blue screen with nothing else. what's my play here? i'm really bad with computers so i guess it's better to take it to a store?

I don't know what's happen during the startup of Vista 32 but is the strangest startup of Windows I've never seen in the previous OS
1) Times to load Windows very long respect XP with a fast pc using CPU Intel DC2 4 2.40 GHz 4GB ram
2) Some applications don't load caused by UAC but not every startup
3) Some applications are "forget" to load or not visible in the tray
4) error messages of load failure appear but not at every startup
5) The little arrow on the tray bar that hide programs 1 time appear and 1 time don't appear and the programs are the same running and visible on the traybar. Perhaps the SP1 has resolved these problems? I use the italian version of Vista 32.

I am using Vista Home Premium. I tried to back up my hard drive to a Western Digital removable HD using Vista Backup and Restore. The backup failed and I got a message that read: "The backup target drive G: failed with the following error: The backup disk has a corrupted file system. Fix it using the disk error checking tool or choose a different backup location. (0x81000008)" I cannot find "the disk error checking tool". I have backed up using this removable HD a couple of times already.

Windows Vista home premium with SP2 and later fixes installed. No apparent malware detected by Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebyte, spybot. Hibernation is turned on. Checked all devices to ensure none have the "wake on" feature activated. When I select hibernate, the screen goes black for a few seconds then the logon menu is presented. Hibernation never occurs.

I recently activated Windows email and imported my emails from Tiscali. I have checked 'my server requires authentication', and received the following error message: An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'test', Account: 'pop.tiscali.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.tiscali.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 Sorry, your non-local IP address **** is not allowed to send email via me.', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC6F
I then changed the outgoing server as my ISP is currently BT and this is what theeir website says. When I try to send emails then, I get the windows security logon. When I enter my username and password, it just keeps reappearing as if I have entered it incorrectly. I have rechecked the details in properties and I am entering them correctly. When I cancel the logon screen, I get a blank error.

I want to perhaps lower the space for the shadow storage. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I have run cmd as administrator (right click -> Run as administator). Whenever I put in vssadmin list shadowstorage an error comes up (see picture).
P.S: I've uninstalled daemon tool's to see if that was the cause, didn't work. I've also uninstalled SP1, didn't work, reinstalled SP1, didn't work. I'm not sure what the problem is. The third picture was made to show there is no System Restore in the System Tools area.

what I found was microsoft office SP2 was the cause of the problem..the trusted installer was missing in the windows servicing folder....

I have a 3month old PC - clean installed with Vista Home Prem OEM. As of 8 days ago will not finish booting - simply ends with a mouse pointer on a black screen (pointer moves when mouse is moved). Have tried - everything - full memory diagnostics, chkdsk /r, System restore (found no restore points), all SAFE modes, Last good config. In place upgrade is disabled as it is an OEM build. Intel P35 chipset MB, E6850 CPU. No new hardware installed. No bug check codes displayed (no blue screen). Was fully up to date with WU, and drivers - and was running well since built. It is as if the profile is corrupt - but there was no indication of a problem. If this was Win XP I would do a Repair Install. Obviously no way to do that in Vista. This was before SP1 came out this week. The drive has been fully scanned for virii and spyware (HDD added to a clean working system and scanned), came up clean. I do not want to give up and clean install - there has to be another way. I have been a PC tech since 1986 - and VERY RARELY give up.

I'm having some issues with acquiring an IP address via DHCP. When I statically set the address and try to ping anything I get General Failure as a result each time. This is the case when I ping 127.0.0.1 as well. I tried using a USB wireless card instead with the same results which is why I do not believe it is a hardware problem.
I have restarted in safe mode with networking which provides the same result. I've checked for any software firewalls that the user may have installed but found nothing. It is a Sony VAIO, so I can't rule out the Sony hid one somewhere and I just can't find it.
The machine is running Windows Vista Home Premium. When in the network and sharing center, there is a link between 'This computer' and (when the address is not static - unidentified network or when static - Network 2) but the next link has a red x through it. When I tell it to diagnose the problem it responds with "There might be a problem with one or more network adapters on this computer" and reccommends that I try to use wireless instead.wireless has the same problem,
