Folders Pane Showing 2 Of Every Folder
Sep 23, 2009The pic is fairly self-explanatory, but as you can see on the left hand side in the folders pane, there is 2 of nearly every folder.

Folder :: Details Pane Not Showing Accumulative File Size Total
Mar 23, 2008When I click on a folder, then look down in the Details Pane at the bottom it shows the number of files in the folder but NOT the accumulative file size total.
I also noticed the same thing when I had the Recycle Bin Folder open.
Windows Layout Preview Pane Not Showing Documents
Jul 30, 2009In Windows Explorer, the Layout Preview Pane will not preview any documents i.e. Word, Excel. It only shows PDF's, .JPGS etc. This computer is using Office 2003. On my other PCs all documents preview regardless of Office version.

May 21, 2009I'm not sure what I have done but the left hand pane in which shows the list of folders (inbox, sent, deleted etc) in windows mail has completely disappeared.
I have tried rebooting, I have tried going into layout and making sure the folder list is checked but it will just not come back. They folders are still there as I can get to them through the folder bar option. If I uncheck the folders list box the folder bar shows a drop done menu with the folders.
Windows Mail Folder Pane
Jun 13, 2009The folder list is no longer displayed in the left hand pane in Windows Mail (apart from Local folders, Inbox and Newsgroups). In order to navigate to my other folders, I have to click on Local Folders, when they are displayed in the message pane. I can then open any folder but cannot transfer files to the folder from the inbox.

Feb 23, 2010I do not have a folder pane (a folder tree with the Desktop, my Computer, the Network) in Explorer any more. This is a rather annoiing and difficult problem, and have searched several times for hour with NO solution for Vista. I do not know exactly when this started, since I'm not normally using Windows Explorer that much. Now when I open the Explorer, the place where the Folder pane should be is totally blank, as seen below. (My Layout is set to "Navigation Pane")
I can see contents of folders in the Right pane and navigate through them, but can't see any folder hierarchy in the Left Folder-pane -- it's just totally blank as shown above. Does anyone have a solution? Names Of Panes Called The Folder Pane
Dec 6, 2008In a Vista Windows Explorer window, what is the right pane's name? There is the Layout/Menu Bar/Details Pane, Preview Pane & Navigation Pane but I don't see a name for this pane....I think maybe it is called the Folder Pane or Display Pane or the Folder Display Pane?

Mar 23, 2008When using Windows Mail, I have a series of folders and sub-folders on the left side. It used to be that the sub-folders were always closed. Now, for some reason, the sub-folders are always open when I open up Windows Mail.
This is regardless of how I exit Windows Mail. In other words, when I'm all done with Windows Mail, I leave it with all sub-folders closed, but the next time when I open and use it again, I find that all the sub-folders are open again.
Search Folder Disappeared From Right Pane Startup Menu
Apr 4, 2008The Search item has disappeared from the right pane of my Startup Menu. I have no idea how I lost it, but it was there when I first got my computer (Vaio, running Vista Home Premium). I now have to go to Help & Support to get access to it. I use the Advanced Search facility, so I can't just open up any folder. Does anyone know how to pin it back onto the Start Menu? I've even tried going to Open Taskbar & Start Menu properties and selecting Use Default Settings on the Start tab - no luck!

Oct 15, 2009I tried moving My Documents folder to my D: drive and now have big problems! The whole folder disappeared. After searching the net for answers I altered some Registry settings (which was stupid I know) but was able to get My Documents folder back under Desktop. Now I don't have a User profile under C:Users, just a Public folder. Here's the good part, if I right-click on My Documents folder in the Start Menu it says that my Location is C:UsersmyUserName which clearly doesn't exist.
Then if I click on myUserName in Windows Explorer it has every folder in the right hand pane except for the "Documents" folder but if I expand the tree of the username on the left hand side of Windows Explorer it has a Documents folder and all my files are dispayed in the right hand pane. Also my NTUSER.dat file is in myUserName folder under Desktop not under C:Users**** where it's supposed to be. Have tried System Restore several times but it makes no difference. Does any of this make any sense? How restore my "Personal" folder under C:Users and the proper registry settings that I should have?
Icons/Files From User Folder Showing Up In Computer Folder
Nov 26, 2009I have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.

still shows a number of unread items. If I close and re-open Windows Mail the figures disappear. I have looked through some recent posts and see mention of ghost messages in Deleted Items, but in my case this shows up in all mail folders. I also saw that it was asked a few times whether an anti-virus program is running, so if this is relevant I am running AVG Internet Security 7.5.
Folder Not Showing The Music Files
Mar 24, 2010I've been having trouble with a folder. I placed a music file in a folder that it shouldn't have been in and the image art is now on the folder. I can't seem to get it to return to default. I've done the folder options with no avail. I have some knowledge of computers. If you tell me what needs to be done I can navigate my way through and get it done. My machine is HP G60-237NR Notebook running Vista Home Premium 32bit.

Oct 13, 2008Now before you get excited and hit reply to tell me what to do read this carefully and read it again if you have to.
1) I don't see a background image for any of my folder types on my system.
2) I already went into Advanced system settings to make sure it was checked, which it is, rebooted and nothing. Unchecked it, rebooted. Checked it, rebooted. Nothing.
3) I have done nothing to my system. I do not install 3rd party themes. I do not use any tweak programs to modify the appearance of anything. So what's the deal? Why am I not seeing a background image for each folder type? Let's review:
1) No background image for each folder type.
2) Already went into Advanced system settings to check the option there.
3) No 3rd party apps installed ever or tweaking done.Ideas? Perhaps it's been removed in the lastest version of Vista? I already went into Advanced system settings to check the option in case you didn't know.
Shortcuts Unlock Toolbar Folder Is Showing
Oct 28, 2008To the right of "Shortcuts" toolbar, you can see a bit of the first folder (the yellow thing). If I unlock the taskbar, it goes away, but if I lock the taskbar, that yellow part of the first folder is showing. In XP, this doesn't happen... does anyone know how to fix this in vista?

May 18, 2008When I click on the C: drive in my explorer view I get all the subfolders. However, instead of size and date modified I get album, artist and rating info. For any individual sub folder I can right click and change the customize properties to detail view, but for the C: drive no such option is aviable. How can I change the view back to details?

Sep 4, 2009As you can see, there are two "Pictures" folders, and two "Music" folders. They do not contain the same contents; only one Pictures folder contains all my pictures and only one Music folder contains all my music. The "new" Music folder contains the "Sample Music" folder, and the "new Pictures folder contains all of what is in my original Pictures folder, in addition to same strange things which are shown in screen shot 2. These folders are not deletable, and probably related to the ntuser.dat.LOG2 file you can see at the bottom of the user folder. I think this is probably the cause of something going wrong in the registry, which I haven't a clue of how to edit.
Upon opening the new Pictures folder, this is shown (unrelated folders/files are blurred):
For some reason, the same default Music folder as well as an entirely new (third) Pictures folder is also present here.
If I open the third Pictures folder here, this is shown:
The new Music folders in all cases (except for the original in my user folder) only contain the default Sample Music folder, so I didn't post a screen shot of that.
Deleting any of these unneeded folders is impossible, as Vista will either prevent me from doing so or just creating a new one immediately after it is deleted.
Un-share Folders: You Could Not Stop Sharing The Selected Folder
May 25, 2008I have two user accounts, one is an administrator. I don't want the standard account to be able to view the data in my account. I tried to "un-share folders but I keep getting this error message 'You could not stop sharing the selected folder.' Further info says that this folder is in a shared folder, huh? It shouldn't be.

Jun 15, 2009Been using Vista (Ultimate, 64bit, SP1) for about three months now (only because I wanted to get acclimated to Windows' new look and feel for the eventual switch to Win7), and one of the first things I noticed was that a) it kept forgetting my folder views and b) it kept sticking my new files at the top of folders instead of the bottom. I just figured it was a "feature" and I looked around the net for a way to work around it, but never found one. I just tried to live with it until the other day a friend directed me to the tutorial Brink posted to make Vista remember (I don't even know how I missed it; I'm usually pretty proud of my Google Fu), and it made me incredibly happy. So I thought "Hey, there might be a fix of some sort for my other problem." The problem is, I can't remember the search query I used to get info for problem (b) the first time around and I couldn't get any decent results with the ones I was trying. So I decided for the direct approach and ask here.
So here's exactly what my problem is. Whenever I drop a file into a folder, or save a new file, Vista is always sticking it at the top of the folder. And not even as the first file, usually as the second. Now, if I happen to have that folder open when I save the file, sometimes it will put it at the bottom, sometimes not. I never had this problem with XP, and its pretty annoying since that's how I process and sort my files. Is there something I can do about this?
Windows Mail Folders: 1 Email Duplicates Itself Over All Others In A Folder
Jul 29, 2009Emails are sent and arrive in my Windows Mailbox fine. I then create a folder and drag them to that folder no problems. When I create a subfolder however, and start dragging emails into the subfolder I find that the 1st email is fine but every subsequent one has been corrupted. That is to say that in each case the email content is erased and replaced with a duplication of the 1st email in that subfolder. Go figure. The email titles don't change so if you open the subfolder you
wouldn't realise what has happened.
It is only when you open each successive email that it becomes apparent that the content of every email has become identical. *Windows Mail folders: 1 email duplicates itself over all others in a folder, thereby erasing email content of all others* This was previously posted by two others and I have exactly the same problem.
Documents Folder Hidden In Public Folders, But Cannot Unhide
May 17, 2008I have what appears to be an odd issue, and I can't find reference to it on the web anywhere. Under the Public folder on my Vista machine, I can see the folders Public Downloads, Public Music etc. BUT Public Documents is missing.
If I use the cmd shell, I get the same effect:

HOWEVER the documents folder does exist. I can CD into it and see my files. From within explorer, I can enter C:UsersPublicDocuments explicitly and get to the folder, but is does not show up under C:usersPublic.....
How Configure WinMail To Synchronize Folders, Not All Mail Folder?
Jul 29, 2009I just configured Vista's Windows mail to hook up with my gmail account via IMAP. I have my emails stored in a folder structure (gmail calls them "labels"), which was recreated and all the emails downloaded. So far, so good. But then WinMail downloaded all 1700 emails again in the All Mail folder. I bought a small SDD drive for my new machine and do not want all the emails stored locally twice. How do I configure WinMail to synchronize my folders, but not the All Mail folder, and then I can delete the All Mail folder? Or are there any other options I can use?

In the program files, Activision, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. Directly after the install I downloaded Patch 1.6 and 1.6-1.7 After that I went to the Call of Duty Modern Warfare folder so that I could add my custom maps. But the folders I am looking for are missing. The folders located in my CoD4 MW folder are: Docs, Main, Miles, Mods, pb, Zone. Then there are 2 folders missing: players and usermaps. My game runs fine, but I cant do anything more... I have all my ranks, but I cant find my players folder. I did a search throughout my pc, for the names of those folders but couldnt find anything... I reinstalled CoD4 twice...
