In a Vista Windows Explorer window, what is the right pane's name? There is the Layout/Menu Bar/Details Pane, Preview Pane & Navigation Pane but I don't see a name for this pane....I think maybe it is called the Folder Pane or Display Pane or the Folder Display Pane?

There's a folder in the my documents folder called searches. There are numerous sub folders under it and, together, they contain 5300 items taking roughly 39 GB of space on my drive. What is the purpose of this folder? Can it be deleted without destroying my system? If so, how can I prevent this folder from filling up again?
View 9 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know when/why MS gave us a bunch of fonts such as "Batang & BatangChe & Gungsuh & GungsuhChe" and "Microsoft YaHei?" There are many more of these strange looking font names in my fonts folder and each font takes up > 15,000,000 bytes. I tried to delete 1 or 2 of them but that's a no can do. Was there a specific "hotfix" we applied and what is/are the reason(s) for these fonts?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm new here so excuse me if I make any mistakes, but suddenly, I've noticed that my folders inside %ProgramData% are not showing properly, it wasn't like this before and I'd really like to have this solved because this irritates me. I've already tried selecting "Show filenames" in the context menu but this option is not available in this map. And all my other folders are showing the files properly.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I turned my computer on today it seems that all of my filenames have 'disappeared' - the files are still called the same that I named them, but instead of them showing the titles, they either show the date modified or only certain details. I mainly have music on my hard drive, and now the folder looks like this:
As you can see, on the left in the folder tree, the path is showing up, the files are still there etc, but instead of the track titles, there is now only the artist and album? I have tried shift and view, tried different views, tried changing the folder view to pictures and videos etc, I have also completely scanned the drives and there doesn't seem to be any problems? Under 'folder options' I have tried showing all extensions etc, showing hidden files, different customizing of views:...........
The pic is fairly self-explanatory, but as you can see on the left hand side in the folders pane, there is 2 of nearly every folder.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe folder list is no longer displayed in the left hand pane in Windows Mail (apart from Local folders, Inbox and Newsgroups). In order to navigate to my other folders, I have to click on Local Folders, when they are displayed in the message pane. I can then open any folder but cannot transfer files to the folder from the inbox.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI do not have a folder pane (a folder tree with the Desktop, my Computer, the Network) in Explorer any more. This is a rather annoiing and difficult problem, and have searched several times for hour with NO solution for Vista. I do not know exactly when this started, since I'm not normally using Windows Explorer that much. Now when I open the Explorer, the place where the Folder pane should be is totally blank, as seen below. (My Layout is set to "Navigation Pane")
I can see contents of folders in the Right pane and navigate through them, but can't see any folder hierarchy in the Left Folder-pane -- it's just totally blank as shown above. When using Windows Mail, I have a series of folders and sub-folders on the left side. It used to be that the sub-folders were always closed. Now, for some reason, the sub-folders are always open when I open up Windows Mail.
This is regardless of how I exit Windows Mail. In other words, when I'm all done with Windows Mail, I leave it with all sub-folders closed, but the next time when I open and use it again, I find that all the sub-folders are open again.
The Search item has disappeared from the right pane of my Startup Menu. I have no idea how I lost it, but it was there when I first got my computer (Vaio, running Vista Home Premium). I now have to go to Help & Support to get access to it. I use the Advanced Search facility, so I can't just open up any folder. Does anyone know how to pin it back onto the Start Menu? I've even tried going to Open Taskbar & Start Menu properties and selecting Use Default Settings on the Start tab - no luck!
View 7 Replies View RelatedI tried moving My Documents folder to my D: drive and now have big problems! The whole folder disappeared. After searching the net for answers I altered some Registry settings (which was stupid I know) but was able to get My Documents folder back under Desktop. Now I don't have a User profile under C:Users, just a Public folder. Here's the good part, if I right-click on My Documents folder in the Start Menu it says that my Location is C:UsersmyUserName which clearly doesn't exist.
Then if I click on myUserName in Windows Explorer it has every folder in the right hand pane except for the "Documents" folder but if I expand the tree of the username on the left hand side of Windows Explorer it has a Documents folder and all my files are dispayed in the right hand pane. Also my NTUSER.dat file is in myUserName folder under Desktop not under C:Users**** where it's supposed to be. Have tried System Restore several times but it makes no difference. Does any of this make any sense? How restore my "Personal" folder under C:Users and the proper registry settings that I should have?
When I click on a folder, then look down in the Details Pane at the bottom it shows the number of files in the folder but NOT the accumulative file size total.
I also noticed the same thing when I had the Recycle Bin Folder open.
a while back I was sent an email by Microsoft telling me about some software that would basically lock you compter so that you could use it but not make any changes to it...it looked like it was aimed at public libraries...
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have something really strange happening here i have this prog and it says a file or one of its dependancies is missing its called FUSIONButtons.ocx so i looked around and several sites have it but every time i try to download it i get an error. ive tried several sites and some of them were rar files and when i extract it nothing shows. so a friend of mine has the same software with the same problem and got the ocx file no problem and tried to send it to me over msn every time there was an error most of the errors were cannot read source file or filer no longer exists the rars gave no error and was inside when i looked but if i extract here nothing appears. I have 2 computers one with XP sp2 and another with vista ultimate x64 and ive tried a bunch of sites and several friends who have the file on both computers and its always the same thing. The last thing we tried was to rar the whole prog with the need file included and when i got it that 1 file had disappeared or would not show on my systems. I turned off all my firewalls and antivirus, i must add that the first time i tried to get it nod removed the file so i shut nod off and i also went in and set folder options to show all hidden files. I also tried putting the whole rared prog on a flash drive and extracted it on the flash then tried to run the prog from the flash but same thing. Can someone pls explain this wierd thing thats going on here its driving me insane !! i must also add that this is not happening with any other files now or any other file i can rememeber

View 4 Replies View RelatedThere's a file on my D drive called ntldr. I understand that this is a vital part of windows, however this file is on a hard drive which windows ISN'T installed on now. Windows XP used to be on this drive about 2 years ago but when i got a new hard drive back then, i installed windows on that (C) new hard drive (and have since installed Vista on) and removed it from the one which is now D drive. Since this is not the HD which houses my OS, can i delete ntldr? UPDATE: and ntdetect.com as well.

However, when I run the setup.exe I get a Windows installer error 1619. I'm running Vista Business SP1 x86 and I'm logging in to the desktop with an admin account. The Go-News menu function in Outlook 2007 on Vista Home Premium SP1 will NOT call any other newsreader other than Windows Mail, even when the other news reader is set as default.(Ie it opens when external news links are clicked).This is in direct contradiction to Outlook 2007 on XP.
Back in the days when I used XP there was a registry altering utility called xp_balloontips.vbs. Running this useful utility managed to get rid of most of XP's annoying balloon tips that come up on mouse rollover. Does anyone know if there is anything similar for Vista?

The primary reason for setting up this VPN is to be able to access my home network shares, networked printers, VNC, as well as web pages not accessible to the internet on my laptop while away from home. While testing out my VPN at a friends house I found that I cannot access my network shares, etc by their host name, but am able to access some things but only by using the local IP address of the computer in my home network.
The setup:
VPN Server: Windows Vista Ultimate (x64 SP1)
VPN Client: Windows Vista Home Premium (x64 SP1)
I know I am lousy at explaining things if there is any more info needed let me know. Please note that I'm not a network admin by trade so please keep that in mind with any responses.

User name = my hotmail email account
