View 9 RepliesI have reinstalled my OS. Since then, my IE7 Favorites list (the dropdown menu that expands when clicking Favorites on the Menu Bar) opens in full length. The "Enable personalized favorites menu" option in Internet Explorer 7 does not hide my less frequently used favorites as expected any more. Is it a question of time until the list collapses and expands (I mean Vista learns my habits) or is it an issue that can be resolved?
View 6 Replies View RelatedVista abbreviates my drop down menus. For instance, in IE when I click favorites, I get 12 items, until I click the little caret like characters at the bottom of the window, then all the favorites are displayed. Same in Excel, Word.

View 6 Replies View RelatedOkay just re-confirmed a solution to two simultaneous problems that I think will be helpful to folks. Soon after I got my Vista x64 pc I started noticing huge constant CPU usage spikes attributed to dcomlaunch.
Turned out it was my ATI video card's HDMI audio driver. Go to device manager, expand sound, video and game controllers, and disable "ATI HDMI Audio". Problem solved instantly. My CPU usage dropped from ~30-40% constant use to <5% average.
Fast-forward 6 months after I upgrade to sp2. I notice that in PhotoShop and a couple other apps that use old-school file open/save dialog boxes, I can't choose a new file location from the "Look in:" drop-down menu at the top of the box. Every time I click it, the menu opens and then immediately closes again. Infuriating! A couple days later I notice my CPU has been working overtime too. Could it be the ATI HDMI Audio device is active again?
Yup, there it was active again. And this time I see there are (2) of these devices (I have 2 ati cards) and my CPU usage was up to >60% average! (2 x 30%). Insane. Again, I disable and usage drops back to nearly 0. Yay!
Amazingly, this ALSO SOLVED the problem with the file open / file save drop down menus. I re-enabled the ATI devices to test and confirmed that this was the cause of both the CPU usage AND the odd problem with the pop-up menus closing instantly.
When you change the desktop background picture there is a drop down menu "Picture Location". I have a few paths that I do not want to show up on the drop menu. My question is: How do I get rid of some of the folders that are currently on that list? I want them off that list only.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was testing Vista for one year and at the end I am going back to the XP. I not interested in appearance. The system should work and I do not care if it have transparent windows or not. It have to be fast and have all function I had in former System (Windows XP in my case) What am I lacking in Vista:
1.No search i context menu
2.No drag and drop to command prompt
3.No folder backup (ntbackup)
4 Eating more than 1GB ram
5 More clicking to get to the same properties
Can any of you tell me why should I stay with Vista? It is your last chance to convinced me.
Now have Vista Prem, had XP, can't find above menu. Also, when I del a mail, two mails get del, and I can't get them back.
View 4 Replies View Relatedjust downloaded IE8, and now, seemingly randomly, I can't access my Favorites from the altC or altA bar whatsoever. even more odd, the Favorites folder has disappeared from My Documents (i reassiged the location to a backup drive previously, but that is still there). when I try to bookmark something (ctrlD, or click add to favorites) absolutely nothing happens.. no popup, no nothing.
i've tried several things already from changing downloading the fix_fav_il prompt, to resetting folder properties, etc. and i tried uninstalling/reinstalling IE8 already, which didn't help anything nothing seems to work. I feel like if the Favorites folder would reappear in MyDocuments, I might be able to figure something out, but it just won't come back!
My questions are does Vista need to have a User name/ documents / favorites folder? And a User name/ favorites folder?
I had a problem importing favorites from my win XP IE 7 via a flash drive,( not a valid bookmark file error ) and after upgrading to IE 8, uninstalling IE 8 and reverting back to IE 7 I got my favorites into the User Name non documents folder.
I deleted the favs folder in documents which showed it as empty. Now I cannot re import my favs again from the flash drive.
I am trying to avoid the whole process of installing IE 8 and reverting to 7 again and I think I did some stupid deleting.
Can I just create a documents /folder name favorites and hope that IE will import form there? If so I tried it and got an error ( incomplete URL ).
I added a huge amount of senders to the Blocked Senders list, but still get them appearing in the Junk Mail folder. I get hundreds of junk mail each day and was hoping that this would stop them from showing. Is there something else I need to activate to make this work?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI wanted to download Adobe Flash Player 10 from their site, but whenever I click on the link, instead of getting the Install/Don't Install prompt for the ActiveX plug-in, all I get is a window asking if I want to save the file, and it is listed as a Binary file. Attached is an image of the download window. Now, this woudn't be a problem, as I could just run it as normal after downloading it, but when I click Save File, it downloads it, and then the file disappears. I how can I get the Save File prompt to stop showing up, or if I do have to save it, how can I choose where it goes to?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.

View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery time I turn on my computer it tells me that the Windows Security Centre is at risk. I have Nortons IS installed as my Anti Virus program, and I know this overrides the WSC, but how do I stop the Windows icon from showing my computer is at risk when I start up. I read that the Windows SC is only a warning, it does not save you from viruses, is that correct?

View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is my third post (twice in IE 7 forum...no answer). I cannot delete favorites from favorites list. I have tried deleting while in safe mode also. After a short while they reappear again and seem to be multiplying! I cannot find the temporary folder either. I have Compaq Presario with Windows Vista Home Basic and Explorer 7 installed from factory. Purchased January of this year. I am familiar with Windows Xp and could find my way around the computer files, but Vista is really different and complicated! I do not know what else to do. I also have Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware installed and have unchecked the box for favorites sheild because I am constantly being asked to keep or remove the favorites, but if I click remove they still return and I am asked over and over again the same question.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been having trouble with a folder. I placed a music file in a folder that it shouldn't have been in and the image art is now on the folder. I can't seem to get it to return to default. I've done the folder options with no avail. I have some knowledge of computers. If you tell me what needs to be done I can navigate my way through and get it done. My machine is HP G60-237NR Notebook running Vista Home Premium 32bit.

1) I don't see a background image for any of my folder types on my system.
2) I already went into Advanced system settings to make sure it was checked, which it is, rebooted and nothing. Unchecked it, rebooted. Checked it, rebooted. Nothing.
3) I have done nothing to my system. I do not install 3rd party themes. I do not use any tweak programs to modify the appearance of anything. So what's the deal? Why am I not seeing a background image for each folder type? Let's review:
1) No background image for each folder type.
2) Already went into Advanced system settings to check the option there.
3) No 3rd party apps installed ever or tweaking done.Ideas? Perhaps it's been removed in the lastest version of Vista? I already went into Advanced system settings to check the option in case you didn't know.
To the right of "Shortcuts" toolbar, you can see a bit of the first folder (the yellow thing). If I unlock the taskbar, it goes away, but if I lock the taskbar, that yellow part of the first folder is showing. In XP, this doesn't happen... does anyone know how to fix this in vista?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm building a VB application with installer. Well I want that after the administrator installation it creates a files and folders and if I run that application logged as user I dont want that vista copies my files to VirtualStore folder...I want the same path where all the users can write. I just used the path c:ProgramDataMySoftware... but it doesnt work...VISTA creates another folder under VirtualStore folder.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on a folder, then look down in the Details Pane at the bottom it shows the number of files in the folder but NOT the accumulative file size total.
I also noticed the same thing when I had the Recycle Bin Folder open.
I have two user accounts, one is an administrator. I don't want the standard account to be able to view the data in my account. I tried to "un-share folders but I keep getting this error message 'You could not stop sharing the selected folder.' Further info says that this folder is in a shared folder, huh? It shouldn't be.
