To the right of "Shortcuts" toolbar, you can see a bit of the first folder (the yellow thing). If I unlock the taskbar, it goes away, but if I lock the taskbar, that yellow part of the first folder is showing. In XP, this doesn't happen... does anyone know how to fix this in vista?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.

I can't seem to get it to return to default. I've done the folder options with no avail. I have some knowledge of computers. If you tell me what needs to be done I can navigate my way through and get it done. My machine is HP G60-237NR Notebook running Vista Home Premium 32bit.

1) I don't see a background image for any of my folder types on my system.
2) I already went into Advanced system settings to make sure it was checked, which it is, rebooted and nothing. Unchecked it, rebooted. Checked it, rebooted. Nothing.
3) I have done nothing to my system. I do not install 3rd party themes. I do not use any tweak programs to modify the appearance of anything. So what's the deal? Why am I not seeing a background image for each folder type? Let's review:
1) No background image for each folder type.
2) Already went into Advanced system settings to check the option there.

In my Windows Mail, when I open the contacts folder, the option in the toolbar for "New Contact" is missing. I can see Organize, Views, and Burn, but not New Contact. New Contact used to be there, but it disappeared recently. How do I get "New Contact" to reappear on the toolbar of the contacts folder?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on the C: drive in my explorer view I get all the subfolders. However, instead of size and date modified I get album, artist and rating info. For any individual sub folder I can right click and change the customize properties to detail view, but for the C: drive no such option is aviable. How can I change the view back to details?

I tried renaming one of the existing personal user folder (i.e. Downloads renamed to Shortcuts) and changing the location it points to another folder. However, if you execute the shell command "Shell: Downloads", it will still go to the folder being pointed to now by the "Shortcuts" folder. Is there a way to change this via registery?

View 9 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine doesn't have a computer at home, and uses one at the Senior Center every day. Since they're public computers, all the settings are reset to defaults when they're rebooted, which happens automatically overnight even if nobody does it manually. He was talking about having to change settings to the way he likes them every day -- unlock the taskbar, show Quick Launch, set the font face and size in WordPad, set the margins on Page Setup, allow active content to run from local files in IE,... It amused me to write a little app that changed all these settings to the way he liked them, using CreateProcess to start up apps, and SendMessage to send keystrokes and mouse clicks to them. I gave it to him so he could put it on his flash drive and run it when he got to the Senior Center every morning. When he watched it running, popping up app windows and changing their settings, he asked me, "So you have something that records keystrokes, and now you're just playing them back?"
His question sort of intrigued me. I heard of something like this a few years ago, somebody I talked to at Yahoo chess was running long joke messages through the chat area. He said he had something that would record his keystrokes and save them as "macros", and play them back. Apparently there's shareware out there that does this kind of thing, but as you might guess from what I've already said, I write computer programs for fun, and with shareware, somebody else gets to have all the fun. Besides that, I never put shareware on my computer anyway, because of the possibility that it contains viruses or worms or whatever. I've fiddled around some, trying to figure out how to record keystrokes and mouse clicks. First I tried to use SetCapture, but as soon as the mouse clicks on something outside the app window that has the capture, it loses the capture. Then I tried setting up a transparent window over the whole screen and passing on all mouse clicks and keystrokes to the window that would receive it if my transparent window weren't there, but that didn't work either, because windows react differently to input if they're covered up by another window, even if it's transparent.....
I just installed an additional 2gb of RAM on my system, but this is not showing in the Task Manager. It iniitally was not showing in either, but after installing SP1 Sys info was updated.

Now, when I delete an email from my "Inbox," it does NOT appear in my "Deleted Items" folder. It just seems to disappear. I did read many of the earlier posts and have tried the suggestions. I've gone to Tools>Options>Advanced>Maintenance - the "Empty messages from the Deleted Items folder on exit" is NOT checked. I've also gone to Current View "Show all messages" - that's identified/checked. Is there something else that I can do? I'd appreciate any suggestions. This is the first time I've used

I think I messed up my hard drive while trying to erase the EISA partition on it. It's a Gateway P7811-FX laptop with a single 200 GB hard drive. Before, I only had 1 main partition: the C: Drive (176.31 GB), along with the hidden 10 GB EISA partition. After making recovery disks, I followed this tutorial: Delete and Remove to Unlock EISA Hidden Recovery or Diagnostic Partition in Vista » My Digital Life
Following that, I went in Disk Management. The hidden partition showed up, but I couldn't extend the C drive to use the unallocated 10 GB, so I converted it to a simple 10 GB volume. Then I used Acronis Disk Director Suite and merged the two partitions. And now, I can't do anything in Disk Management. There's only one partition now (186.31 GB), but when I right click on it, there's no options to create, shrink, delete, or extend the partition. They were there before, but the only option that shows up is Help.
Under Status, it says Healthy (Active, EISA Configuration). I think I merged the partitions the wrong way, so now there's no "System, Boot, Page File..." partition. Everything is on the EISA partition. When I try to run Acronis, the program doesn't load up. I've tried using Diskpart but I can't create any new partitions either.
I have a Dell Inspiron loaded with vista home premium which came with a very convenient top toolbar. My hard drive crashed so it was recently replace and windows was reinstalled. How do I get the toolbar back?
It had shortcuts to word processors, calculator, pictures, music movies, etc..
i left my son on the pc when i came back on half my desk top icons had changed to adobe icons
when i clicked on say outlook it tried to open with adobe
the only short fix was to uninstall adobe then all my icons went back to normal
then i tried reinstalling adobe reader and most of the desktop icons changed back to adobe icons.
I'm having trouble with shortcuts not working (not doing anything) in Vista. About as much as I can explain is that shortcuts with greyed out fields don't work, but shortcuts with all the fields editable work fine.

For some reason my shortcuts have program icons on them. I used a Windows teaking program awhile ago to remove the shortcut arrows and I dont think thats the problem cause' its been fine until now.

When I installed the Google Toolbar, it showed up at the installment, but then when I relaunched IE 8 Google toolbar was not there. It also was not in the "Add Ons". But was in my Programs. I uninstalled and reinstalled two more times and it will not show up in IE 8. I had MSN as my home page , so I had to change the home page to Google in order to have my mail. I have gmail. So what is wrong here?

However, today I was wasting time playing Sid Meiers Railroads and the game crashed. After the crash the bar at the top of my computer screen was missing. It was like this tool/task bar(this one isn't specifically mine): It has Categories and the recycle bin in it. Can someone explain how I can get the toolbar back.
