I have a custom toolbar in my Taskbar that points to a folder on my local system. I do not want the icons to appears to the right of the toolbar name instead I want a drop down list to appear.
View 7 RepliesI don't find the desktop to be of much use, too many icons take away from the image I choose to display, but I do use the desktop toolbar from the taskbar quite a bit. There are icons that I cannot remove from the desktop toolbar such as the Network & Control Panel icons they won’t leave the toolbar, and I can’t seem to kill the IE icon off for good, either.

I HATE the ribbons, period? I LOVED the nice, neat, useful, and tiny toolbars I created and edited in the 2003 programs and this 'RIBBON' thing is the most obnoxious thing ever! I REALLY fell bad for those laptop dudes and dudettes, especially the 15" (or smaller) screens. I have a nice, new, big 19" and I find the useless and extravagant space requirements for the "Ribbon" (who came up with that one, anyway?) EXTREMELY ANNOYING..............
View 7 Replies View Relatedall my desktop icons got suddenly changed to internet explorer icons,after (i opened some program in the internet,) then i did some personalisation then it changed to my adobe photoshop icon, all the desktop icons now shows the adobe,,icons.like all my programs which was earlier like (yahoo msngr, msn mesengr,windows vista programs,almost all other programs) and my internet wireless stopped working. i have a vista home premium 32. and my comp is asus f3t series. i was trying to do the icon cache, but couldnt find. tried restarting but couldnt solve.now trying to run my antivirus scan Mcafee. if anybody knows the solution to restore my earlier icons.

Now they don't display anything except a flower, house, ect. My question is: How do I change the picture icon setting back so I can see a tiny preview thingy for each icon, instead of having to click on each one to see what they really are?
View 4 Replies View RelatedDesktop icons overwritten. After a recent automatic update it appears my desktop icons have two icons on top of each other. Visible on top is the "default" icon and slightly visible underneath is the original icon. I use Firefox and Vista Ultimate 32.
View 5 Replies View RelatedA Vista SP1 Home Premium problem - 9 live icons covering 9 dead icons: Several days ago I had a desktop with 9 live, working icons at the bottom of the desktop. ie: recycle bin, computer, network, control panel, etc. The 9th icon was a folder called 'powershell'.
Several days ago I deleted the 'powershell' folder, and, underneath that folder, was surprised to find a dead copy of the 'powershell' folder. The deleted 'powershell' folder was in the recycle bin, and an undeleted dead copy on the desktop. This dead copy cannot be accessed with selection, left-click, or right-click operations - so the 'Properties' info cannot be displayed.........
Everytime I restart my PC, my desktop icons go where ever they want each time. What is causing this and is their a way to lock the icons in place?

It had shortcuts to word processors, calculator, pictures, music movies, etc..
I've been using Windows Vista Premium for over a year now. So far I've no problems with it yet. However, just recently, I noticed that the icons for the computer and recycle bin were gone. Futhermore, the icon for some of the folders on my computer were either blank or a icon of the computer. Some files (ranging from the .dll to .exe) were changed to the computer icon as well. The icons for the floppy drive and my usb also disappeared and are displayed by the icon that represents file that windows does not recognise. How I can restore these icons? I have tried a system restore back a week when they were all still good but that did not make a difference.

View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I just traded out my year old Gateway laptop (which stopped working) for a new Dell Inspiron. I've never been particularly impressed with Dell but the Tech Guy at Best Buy assured me the quality of their laptops had improved. Anyway, it came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Since it was a Dell it came loaded with a stardock with mac-like icons instead of desktop icons. I like it so I customized it with the icons for the programs I use most, stared typing up notes for medical school with MS Word, and started downloading music files.
So the other day I notice strangely that the dock had reverted back to the original icons that were present when I first got the computer. Then I noticed all of the files downloaded/saved to the harddrive had disappeared. So I start anew adding files and replacing most of the old ones. Then suddenly yesterday the dock changes again back to how it was...customized and the files that I originally had reappeared but now the files I saved when it changed the first time are gone. So what is going on? Is this some kind of glitch in the OS? Is there something wrong with the actual computer? how get my files back?
The toolbar that is displayed on the startup screen with the default location on the top center of the display - not sure its technical name - mine is gone and I miss it:sa: How do I get it to display again?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWith IE 8 and Google Toolbar. I installed IE 8 for Vista 64 Bit. When I installed the Google Toolbar, it showed up at the installment, but then when I relaunched IE 8 Google toolbar was not there. It also was not in the "Add Ons". But was in my Programs. I uninstalled and reinstalled two more times and it will not show up in IE 8. I had MSN as my home page , so I had to change the home page to Google in order to have my mail. I have gmail. So what is wrong here?

However, today I was wasting time playing Sid Meiers Railroads and the game crashed. After the crash the bar at the top of my computer screen was missing. It was like this tool/task bar(this one isn't specifically mine): It has Categories and the recycle bin in it. Can someone explain how I can get the toolbar back. I tried the only system restore point I had on my computer, but that didn't work.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI can do a ctrl+alt+delete and bring up the task manager and kill the process BUT my desktop has lost the task bar and starting orb. Moving the mouse top or bottom or to either side does not 'unhide' the toolbar so that I can access my USB drive with rkill.com (a process to kill this malware) on it. Have tried booting into Safe Mode and the viral program appears there also, but once again cannot access the Start Orb or Task bar. I have no knowledge of any 'DOS' commands should I be able to go to safe mode with cmd prompt. Using Vista Home Premium.

It inserted just under the File, Edit, View, Insert, etc bar and above the toolbar which includes Send, cut, copy, past, etc bar. how to eliminate this nuisance? Now i can re-organise them such as in image 2, but as soon as i restart, the files sort to alphabetical. I've been using Vista since the public beta's and not experienced the problem until i just reinstalled last week.

It's not a huge problem, but i found it very annoying when i am working and need to bring up something quickly while the screen is filled with 100 windows.
When I first got my new Sony Vaio model VGN-NS30E, I installed Comodo Security Suite. It seemed like a good idea at the time. I wasn't happy with it and tried to uninstall it. I now run AVG free edition, and Windows firewall. I also now use Firefox browser, and am happy with my set up. I don't really like internet explorer, so don't use it. When I installed Comodo, the HopSurf Toolbar was bundled with it. I did my homework after the event, and found, ( online ) issues with HopSurf
Comodo removed Ask/IAC SafeSurf Toolbar by replacing it with HopSurf/IAC/Ask Toolbar - Donna's SecurityFlash. I have uninstalled Comodo/HopSurf, and when do a search cannot find it, but when I open ie, I get this...........
i have been unable to look at certain aspects of my toolbar. everytime i pass over my clock, battery meter or network status bar and try to preview them, windows explorer shuts down and has to restart. ive run numerous system restores and they all have failed, as well as security sweeps and nothing seems to be able to find the problem.

i.e. under older windows you could:
If you add one or two toolbars to your Windows taskbar, regain some space. Right-click on your created taskbar and on the popup menu that appears, uncheck "Show Title." This removes the title description for your taskbar. If you know the programs on the taskbar by their icon and don't need to see the names of the programs, uncheck "Show Text" as well.
Does this no longer exist in Vista and that I can no longer reclaim the space?
On my desk window my lower toolbar is no longer accesable. The on with the clock, network e.d. in. Also the quick launch icons the minimized windows are no longer clickable. If I click on it I recieve the error sound. Only the windows main icon works on the lower left side. It is very irritating to need to open a window that is minimized via the taskmanager to activate the window. What's wrong with my toolbar and how can I restore it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a question about the toolbar though. With previous versions of windows I could fill up the toolbar with open windows and just click on the one I wanted. Now in Vista it will only show me 2 open windows at a time in the tool bar. If I have 3 or more open I have to click on the up or down arrow to find them and then click on them. Is there any way to have more than 2 windows show on the toolbar. This would be for separate applications so the grouping option won't help me here.

a) Turn it off so it only appears when I want it.
or...
b) Uninstall it altogether. I've looked in the uninstall programs section of
control panel and I don't see it.
