I have had Vista about month now and I keep getting suggested sites poping up along my toolbar its driving me nuts! These sites are in some relation to what i'm viewing, wasnt there before so must be something i've pressed. Its nothing todo with my popups as there turned off.
View 4 RepliesSome wonderful site recently visited (don't know which one) has added a nuisance toolbar just above the default one in my Vista Windows Mail. It inserted just under the File, Edit, View, Insert, etc bar and above the toolbar which includes Send, cut, copy, past, etc bar. how to eliminate this nuisance? Right clicking does not gime me any options.

I HATE the ribbons, period? I LOVED the nice, neat, useful, and tiny toolbars I created and edited in the 2003 programs and this 'RIBBON' thing is the most obnoxious thing ever! I REALLY fell bad for those laptop dudes and dudettes, especially the 15" (or smaller) screens. I have a nice, new, big 19" and I find the useless and extravagant space requirements for the "Ribbon" (who came up with that one, anyway?) EXTREMELY ANNOYING..............

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have no idea what I did but I have a folder on my desktop whose contents now appear to the left of the folder in a kind of veil all the way down the left side of the monitor. My icons that were on the far left are now to the right of those veiled folders located in the folder. I don't know how else to explain it. I absolutely hate Vista. I have never wasted so much time in my life. I see nothing better about it then XP but I spend hours trying find out what I've done without intention. I wish I could have gotten XP and foregone all the silly bells and whistles without paying an additional cost.

Peculiar sounds annoy me so I have set 'Sounds' to virtually nil using Control Panel/Sounds and disabling all the Windows boings and beeps and saved the setting as "My own".
However, I keep getting the odd boing, burp and beep, such as when closing a programme after pasting something and closing E7.
Is there somewhere else I should look to stop these irritants?
Every day in my "recently changed" file under "DOCUMENTS" I receive hundreds of unwanted pictures.It seems as if they are snapshots from a tv news show.

I have not been able to access any site other than Google and its allies. I have turned off the windows firewall to avoid and conflict with the Norton Antivirus 2009 firewall. I have tried by disabling phising filters. But nothing working.
View 7 Replies View RelatedVista comes with 2 versions of IE 32 bit and 64 bit right so why does the 64 bit version have no problem going on secure sites and yet 32 bit version refuses to do so normally it would not bother me but my Itunes is using the 32 bit version to go to the store (ithink) and i can not sign on to the store to get my music and yes before anyone suggests i have enabled SSL and TTL !

View 9 Replies View RelatedFor several weeks I have been trying to solve a problem with being disconnected from internet sites. Tons of troubleshooting have not been successful. The problem is this: I can go to any website and open one or two windows but when I try to open a third (or sometimes fourth) window (especially if it is a 'heavy' activity site, e.g. Pogo Games or some site that requires multiple windows) I suddenly get disconnected. It is as if I am overloading something (I have 3 GB of RAM) or causing something or other to overload. This happens whether I am using my AOL browser, Internet Explorer 8.0, or Firefox...
so it is NOT the browser. With AOL when I get disconnected the browser will immediately try to restart and will be successful except if I have not 'removed' the offending 3rd or 4th window it will soon disconnect again. I try to quickly X out the 'extra' window but if I am not quick enough it will repeat that cycle again and again up to 6 or 7 times until I can 'catch' and X out the extra window. I have no idea where to start troubleshooting but it is very exasperating. I have a Dell Inspiron 530s, 200GB HD, 3GB RAM, Vista Home Premium OS, 32-bit. (Question: would upgrading to 64bit make a possible difference?)
My computer is loaded with applications, large graphic files, etc. etc. It may be that I need to simplify. Also have more than one anti-virus and/or anti-malware application. Could that be the problem? I need HELP Please.....If reinstalling the OS would be the solution I would do that as a last resort because I have so much personal data that has to be backed up as well as dozens and dozens of applications that would have to be reinstalled. But if I can't find another solution to this problem first I can go that route (again). P.S. I also tried a 'Repair Install' and got the message : Nothing to repair'...although that only took a few seconds so I doubted that a scan was done.
IE that comes with Vista was working fine. Today, I noticed that it is very slow in visiting sites but later it came worse. I thought it was a problem with the connection but I was wrong. Using Google Chrome I didn't see the problem also with Opera we browser.

However, I am connected to the internet.. i can go to some sites such as google, yahoo, this, online game, msn.I use rogers as isp, dlink router, laptop vista, avast, windows firewall, Norton (i think i removed completely)I normally use firefox but this error happens to my ie too. Recently i did not download any suspicious programs except maybe for windows/browser updates.

Say you are on the google search page and you start to type in something, well when I do as soon as I have two letters typed in I get a drop down box listing other things I have searched for, and I want to do away with this as its annoying when I try to login to my website as I get a list of my other names I use for other sites, damn nuisance, but I don't know how to stop this.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Vista Home Premium SP2 32-bit machine. I use IE 8 in my admin account and have had no problems with browsing websites. When I switch to my standard user account and use IE 8, some sites just don't render correctly (see attached screenshots). I've tried almost every suggestion I've come across in researching this issue, to no avail, including uninstalling IE 8 and using IE 7, reinstalling IE 8, compatibility view, add-ons disabled, mtu router tweaks, disabling anti-virus. I use Firefox mostly but need IE working for testing purposes as I'm a developer.

These were never configured to be monitored in either MC or WMP and they weren't being listed in Media Center before SP1 was installed. However I have a computer which is almost exactly the same and on mine it does not happen. How can we prevent these windows from popping up when we don't want them to. Is there a tojan or some virus somewhere that causes these windows to load? The computer even has McAfee antivirus software installed. How can I fix this problem besides reinstalling Windows Vista Home Premium from scratch and hoping it fixes the problem?

My computer automatically downloaded Internet Explorer 8 last week. So far I am not impressed! I have found that it does not load some sites (eg. Facebook and sometimes Google), or takes an age for it to load them up. Sometimes when IE8 is loading up iteslf, it goes to a page saying 'Internet Connection Problem" or something in the top left corner. I wonder if there is a new download patch (is that what it is called?!) or something that can resolve this problem, or some way that I can revert to Internet Explorer 7?

I've had this laptop for over a year now and I've been connected to the internet wirelessly through a router without any problems until last night...All of a sudden IE wouldn't connect to any sites but firefox and my messenger still worked. Then about an hour later my firefox stopped working so i decided to restart my laptop. Before it shut down to restart I got a Blue Screen and then it restarted. Now it's saying im connected to the network but Local Only and I can't connect to any sites. I'm currently on another PC in the house and the Internet works fine. Also I tried plugging an ethernet cord in the laptop and it still doesn't work.

It didn't work so uninstalled but an annoying shortcut leading nowhere is still installed in my Control Panel Classic View (see pic #2) and I have tried getting rid of it using a combination of System Restore & regedit to no avail.
