Microsoft Sync Center Has Stopped Working
Aug 8, 2009On my Dell Studio 1535 I am running Vista Ultimate 32bit. Recently a message box has been popping up randomly (even when no programs are open) which is titled: "Microsoft sync center has stopped working" and reads: "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. Close Program". How can I stop this annoyance?.

Please disconnect and reconnect your device and try again". Feb 20, 2007Microsoft has spent a lot of work on updating Offline Files in Windows Vista with the new Sync Center. For those of you that do not know or use Offline Files, they are simply a local replica of a file that is on a network share. These replicas allow you to work on files you have set to be available offline even if you are not connected to say your corporate network or home server. You can manage all of the offline file settings in one place, the Sync Center.
The only problem I have with the new offline files is the massive green icon that is appended on top of any file that is setup to sync as an offline file. This provides a nice visual clue but often blocks a big portion or almost the entire icon depending on your explorer view. This is unnecessary and since you can manage your offline file from the new Sync Center, it is no longer really needed to find out what files are setup to be synced.
Follow these steps to disable the offline files logo from appearing on your files:
Click on the Start Menu, key in regedit and hit Enter........

Nov 20, 2008I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.

May 27, 2008Somehow the 'uninstall' button disappeared for most programs on my Vista Home Premium box when I used Control Pannel -> Programs -> Uninstall a Program. A few programs still have 'uninstall' button available - those have 'installed on' showing. The rest (80+% of all)don't have 'installed on' values showing and don't have 'uninstall' button.

Mar 23, 2008I am using a Medion laptop, model MIM 2210, with Vista Home Basic. I have installed the latest version of iTunes, version 7.5.
When I connect my iPod to my computer, it brings up a message in iTunes saying, "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
I have tried both of these solutions several times, and keep getting the same message. I called Apple and they told me to try it on a different computer, so I tried it on my work laptop, which has XP and it syncs with the iPod without a problem.
I have seen on the Vista blog about a problem involving ejecting the device corrupting the iPod, but I do not have that issue.
Can't Get Hot Sync To Work Properly
Jan 27, 2008I bought a Tungtsen E2 Palmone a couple of years ago and it worked just fine with Windows XP. I didn't do anything major with it other than transfer information (contacts & calender) back and forth using HotSync. However, I recently purchased a new Acer computer with Windows Vista - Home Premium (64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+) with 1.75 GB RAM; System type: 32-bit Operating System. I knew the old installation CD wouldn't be compatible with Vista, so I downloaded PalmdesktopWin62.zip from the support page at Palmone.com which claims to be the driver to get my palm to work with Vista.
My problem is that I can't seem to get Hot Sync to work properly. Hot Sync begins, but then gets interrupted by a prompt message "create a new account for this PC". If I click "cancel", it shuts down. If I click "yes", then it asks me to put in a password. I don't have a password, nor was I ever given one. I didn't need to use a password while using XP, and I certainly never assigned a password to my Palm.

Listed below is the debug of w32tm /resync /rediscover ... and the UI attempt to update. Other ntp clients work fine and I am able to do a stripchart command against time.windows.com w/o an issue. Aug 20, 2009Im in vista 64 bit. I was trying to install a licence for Cubase and was getting a time, calendar error. I look and everything is on time to the second hand on my wall. But for the hell of it, I tryed syncing it to all the availible servers but got: "An error occured while Windows was synchronizing with whatever.server" However I can ping the servers in comand prompt. And also, like the topic says, It still keeps perfect time. It set it's own time. So Im clueless. A bios thing perhaps?

SP2 RC : Do Not Uninstall
Jun 23, 2009I have tried all the official and miscrosoft published instructions on uninstalling SP2 Release Candidate for Vista Ultimate (in my case 32 bit). I have tried with tech support. So I have really gone the extra mile. I have very compelling reasons to not perform a new installation because of lost set up programs and keys which are essential to my business. I do have backups which go back before the SP2 installation (Release candidate). Is there no way or does anyone have knowlege of maybe just the directories or files I would need to reinstall; to uninstall RC 2 for Vista ?

Can't Even Uninstall IE7
Oct 18, 2009I was having so much trouble with IE loading (it took minutes not seconds) that I switched to Foxfire in the summer. However I still have to use IE for certain client sites. It was taking forever to load but then seemed OK. Now not only does it take several minutes to load it also has a very slow response time when I click on anything. Sometimes I have to click on a web page menu item twice just to get it to recognize I clicked. It's not my mouse/touchpad. It's not my internet connection (blazing fast on another). I have tried so many tools/checkers. I've deleted cookies, files, history. I've deselected all add-ons. Just to click on HOME takes forever to be recognized that I even selected it. It gets worse. I can't even uninstall IE7. It's not under the control panel as a program OR not listed as a an update. I've tried going to MS website to try a fresh download but can only get a download for XP (I have Vista). Does anyone have any links?

Jul 24, 2009Recently I had a pretty bad virus on my computer. I sent it to someone and he removed various trojans and installed his recommended virus-protection softwares on it. It's not a result of him doing anything to it, as it was happening before, I assume as a result of the virus, but now when I log on, after typing in my password, it displays the 'welcome' loading screen for a ridiculously long time (about a minute), but then the screen goes completely black and all I see is my pointer. After another minute or two it actually loads the desktop.
Then there's Fraps and some other programs, which, before the virus, opened fine, but now asks for admin permission in order to open. What's even stranger is that it can't uninstall. When I start the uninstall process it just opens the 'uninstall' window and gets stuck there. My computer also seems to be slower than usual. Everything seems so messed up, should I just totally wipe my hard drive and reinstall everything? Most of my files are stored through Steam, which is mainly online, so I only have about 10 gigabytes of saved files to back up...
How To Uninstall DX9
Oct 31, 2008I loaded up a brand new install yesterday and installed all of this in the following order. I let windows install SP1 thru windows updates online. I normally use the 700+mb vistax64wave0.exe (5 language offline installer package). Everything was working fantastic with this, until...The very last thing I installed after everything SP1 + All windows updates were completely done was DirectX Aug 2008 Redist. Now my system is sluggish and my games run very slow and produce mouse lag which didn't exist until I installed this. My thoughts on this was, hey newer drivers and fixes are always better right? WRONG! What a nightmare every since I installed this directx aug 2008 redist. I need to know how to remove DX9, so I can use the web updater without affecting the DX10 aspect of the vista OS. Something that was packaged inside of the redist has caused me major software conflicts. I only updated directx for gaming, is it even worth it to update directx?
