We're on a network and all the pcs only have one user and therefore I am administrator of all. One pc now won't let me access stuff. When I try and go into Windows defender or Manage windows start up programs, a window comes up saying "contact Administrator". ?? Can't access folder options either. There's a virus on it (darn kids) which I'm trying to get rid of (despite having McAfee, Windows defender, Ad-Aware and Stinger). Could it be the virus causing this? which is hard of course to get rid of if I can't have any access to security files.

I have few programs that I wanted to run as Administrator from startup for normal user. I tried Task Scheduler and it worked but I didn't have icons for these programs in a tray so I could not control these programs. Quite a bit of searching with google brought me to CPAU It is command line program which allows to run programs as different users. In my copied this program to C:WINDOWS directory and created shortcuts in Startup folder............

I am the administrator for my computer, I sign in and go to my control panel and when I select a program I want to unistall it says "the system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation" for one I am the system administrator and I am trying to uninstall, not to install, this is really starting to tick me off. I have went to the trouble section on windows. I have right clicked on it and tried to even check in as administrator and that option is not available in control panel, it is in menu options, but it does not let me uninstall in menu opitions.

I have looked at my Uninstall page, but I do not see a Windows Mail entry. If Microsoft isn't going to continue Windows Mail, how do I uninstall it from my computer. I prefer to go to a outside client.

My daughter just came home from college and her computer had many program files just deleted. Not uninstalled, but literally opened the files and deleted. She didnt do it, as she uses one of them extensively, Adobe CS3. So, how do I prevent someone from deleting files. Can I take ownership of the entire programs files, with a password? And along with that, how do I keep programs from being installed without her permission? She is an admin user by default, but can you password UAC?

My flatmate installed this stupid winifighter software on his computer. It throws up these annoying fake security alerts the whole time. The main problem is that it (or something else) is preventing me from updating any of my antivirus products or antispyware products that i'm trying to install, so I can't get rid of it!!I've tried using the smitfraudfix program to wipe it, and i've used this in safe mode, and i still can't get rid of it.I've tried deleting the entries in the registry etc. manually and the program is still running get rid of it, even though i've deleted all the entries i can find. I can't even find the process in the task manager, even though the process is clearly running.

I've been looking at articles on the internet the past 2 days but haven't found an answer. MobSync.exe starts periodically and I'm trying to prevent this form
occurring. I'm unable to rename the file (even though I am the owner). I can't find any settings for anything in the 'Sync Center'. How can I prevent Mobsync.exe form starting?

I do not want to see any of the programs at the top of the list of All Programs (especially Internet Explorer). I just want to see the program folders listed, preferably sorted by newest or most recently modified first, by alphabetically would be OK. How to get rid of the 8 programs shown in here? Thanks.

Ive been having a few problems with uninstalling some programs via the add/remove programs tool. For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!

I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.

I have Vista and I accidentally put my name in as the administrator when I setup my laptop, for work purposes it's supposed to be named "Administrator". I try to change it but I get a message "The specified account name is not valid, because there is already an account with that name. Please try a different name". Is there a way to change it?

I am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition. I am the only user on my computer. I am the administrator. I have UAC disabled. When running certain programs however I get a message telling me that I need to be Administrator to run this program. It has happened a couple of times but I haven't really paid attention to it due to it being resolved automatically or me not really caring. I try the "run as administrator" option, but it doesn't change anything.

I'm receivng numerous messages that tell me I'm not logged on to my computer as the Administrator. The message says the installer requires the user to be logged on as Administrator and that I'm supposed to do this. This problem reoccurred several days ago and this message pops up every 5 minutes or so. Additionally, it affects outgoing mail as well by either not sending it immediately or delaying sending it. I'm the only person using this computer. I am using Windows Vista anmd this happened a lot for a while, then stopped, then started agin. but this time it seems to have returned with a vengance.

I have tried reading the other help questions on this and tried doing some of
the answers with no success.
All my windows updates are failing. I'm being told I have to be the
administrator to go in and delete corrupted logs/ etc. I am the
administrator on this computer but I did not set up any password. Most
common windows update error is Windows Update error 8007000b.
When I have the command prompt up it shows users
ose. I have tried right
clicking and do not get administrator in the drop down menu. I type in
fsutil resource setautoreset true C:. and an reply comes back that I must
run it as a administator. I have also tried keying this in just at the c:
prompt. I see that I am the administrator of the computer so is that why I
do not get the drop menu on the right click to show administrator?
The other problem I have is I can't get manual defrag to work. I just
erased 11 gigs out of my recycle bin and wanted to run defrag. I'm almost
ready to go out and buy a 3rd party defrag..

I built and set up a new PC with Vista and all is well. I have adminstrator privileges but, out of curiosity, how would I log in as the Adminstrator? In XP I hit F8 when booting and in Safe Mode I could log is as the Adminstrator or any other user. In Vista Adminstrator is not an option in Safe Mode. I don't know that I have a need for this, but I did set up an Adminstrator account, and would like to test it.

Ran sfc /scannow as an administrator. Received the following message when it finished. Verification 100% complete. Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log, etc. Copied the CBS.log to my desktop and opened it. It was quite large so I deleted all entries except those made today. I didn't really know what I was looking for, but there didn't appear to be any anomalies. The last two lines in the log were:
2009-05-13 09:18:11, Info CSI 000001cd [SR] Verify and Repair Transaction completed. All files and registry keys listed in this transaction have been successfully repaired. 2009-05-13 09:19:45, Info CBS Scavenge: Package store indicates there is no component to scavenge, skipping. These two lines seem to be saying that all is well and that it was not necessary to find any replacement files.

hi to all and tnx in advance for support,i've installed 4Gb RAM on my Notebook Toshiba with Intel T5500,Northbridge Intel i945PM rev. 03 and Southbridge Intel 82801GHM (ICH7-M
DH) rev. 02.
After memory update i've installed *Vista x64 Ultimate SP1* and System Info under Control Panel says 4,00Gb Ram Memory but *Task Manager says only 3069Mb Physical Memory*.
Moreover i ran msconfig and deselected MaxMemory flag in Advanced Options under Boot tab (as i saw somewhere on internet )but nothing changes. The bios recognizes correctly 4Gb, and programs like CPU-Z recognizes 4Gb, but msinfo says:
- - Installed Physical Memory (RAM): *4Gb*-
- - Total Physical Memory: *3Gb*.-

I have heard of the "administrator password" for a super-administrator.
But I have never "set" the "administrator password" or "super admin
password".
I do, however, have a user account with admin privileges that I set a
password to.
Is that the same thing? Does my creating a user account with admin
privileges and password make the password for the super-admin the same, or
will the vista admin password still remain blank?
I'm wondering if this is the case, if a hacker tried to break into my system
to grab files, if I never set the administrator/super-admin password, does
that mean there is none, and they just walk right in,
or does it default to the password I have on my user account with admin
privileges?

I've got a program that will only work properly if I use "Run as Administrator", despite being logged in as an administrator. Is there a way I can fix this, so it runs normally? PS, I know I shouldn't be running as administrator, but this is a PC that is rarely connected to the Internet, and used for two or three specific tasks.
