I set up my Vista installation so that I am administrator with all priviledges. I now have installed an old HDD and want to remove the Windows folder. Vista says that I don't have access. I have checked the attributes and nothing is read only. I also have tried the DOS prompt and DEL *.* How do I remove the folder??

I am the friggin administrator....and only user of the computer since I live alone and the computer is in my home. Man I hate Vista. When I try and go into Windows defender or Manage windows start up programs, a window comes up saying "contact Administrator". ?? Can't access folder options either. There's a virus on it (darn kids) which I'm trying to get rid of (despite having McAfee, Windows defender, Ad-Aware and Stinger). Could it be the virus causing this? which is hard of course to get rid of if I can't have any access to security files.

It first says "I'll need to provide admin permission to move this folder", then I see a file operation window, then another You need permission window with a try again and cancel button. Whats going on here? This UAC is proving to be more anoying then good. I'm pretty sure it's why I could not connect to a FTP server through a game to download an update.

I love the 'Recent Places' link in the common file dialogs in Vista. I'd really like to add it to the 'Favorite Links' list in windows explorer.20 The following three links are added programmatically to all common file dialog boxes:=20
. Desktop=20
. Recent places=20
. Computer=20
These three links are not .Ink files in the Links folder. Therefore, the links cannot be removed from the Favorite Links list in common file dialog boxes. Additionally, these three links do not appear in Windows Explorer. This is a huge dissapointment, that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Is there some registry hack or other technique that will effectively add 'Recent places' to explorer's favorites list?
I'm running Vista Home Premium, and I'm trying to reorganize the programs in my start menu (UAC is off for ease of moving files/folders; I am administrator). I've come across a folder that I can't move or delete. Whenever I try to move it, I get an error that it cannot locate the file (The error message says that the file is no longer located in C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms). Additionally, a right-click menu does not appear for this folder (but it does for everything else in the Start Menu). When I go to C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms that folder does appear. However, I cannot delete it or move it. Trying to do so results in a similar "unable to locate folder" message as before. Yet, I can still open the folder, which is empty (hence why I want to delete it).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running windows home premium 32-bit on a personal computer; no network administrators or anything, no users other than myself, and no other user accounts other than this one, which is marked as administrator. I seem to be unable to run windows update as an administrator, though. When I go to change the settings, they ones for when windows update runs(the four that control what it does automatically and what it prompts me for, as well as the time and frequency it would run automatically) are grayed out. I tracked down wuapp.exe in system32 and tried to run that as an administrator via right click; no change in behavior. Tried to go and check the "run as administrator" box in its properties, but that's disabled. That seems to be true of everything in the system32 folder, perhaps there's some way I can circumvent this block?...............

I was fortunately able to recover everything and I'm back in business except that Windows Update only does Windows; it no longer does stuff like look for updates for Office. When I try to include these kind of things I get told I have to log in as Administrator or become a member of the Administrators Group. I am logged on

now i tried to run sysprep for Windows Vista i just install on the PCs, but i was not success to do it. When run sysprep with this command "sysprep /oobe /generalize /unattend:unattend.xml" it will auto delete all drivers installed on vista. The things there are i want to make 1 image Vista Bussiness installed drivers, default enabled administrator account (normally when run sysprep it will disabled administrator account).

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn my previous email program of choice, Outlook Express, I used to beable to select the "to" function within the email message template and see a display of contacts that included the FOLDERS. In Windows Mail, the same action calls up ALL the contacts and NO folders. ALthough I can select multiple contacts from the Windows Contacts folder and through "action", install them in the "To" pane of an email message, I cannot jump from folder to folder to, for example, select contacts within another folder whom I wish to CC on the same message. The "Action" sequence always generates a new email template, posting any selected contact or contacts to the "To" pane.
I do not wish to create GROUPS and then go through the convoluted process of calling up the group in the "To" pane, and then deleting the ones I don't want. Needless to say, this feature was critical to my email flow and organization. Am I missing something? I have checked every forum and group I can. Others report the same issue without resolution. One forum individual said, "That's the way Windows Mail is".
Multiboot (single drive 3 partitions) XP. vista, Windows 7. Since W7 doesn't see my wireless adapter, it's pretty useless. So how do I remove Windows 7 and reclaim that drive space, while leaving XP and Vista alone?

The address always starts out sale...etcetc. When I start to send an e-mail and the first letter of the name is s, all the addresses that I used in Craiglist show up. I could not find a way to fix it.I search the windows site but their solutionsare not applicable since "Windows Defender" does not appear in the list of installed programs.
Therefore I cannot uninstall it.

which does nothing usefull
(empty log and no solution to the problem).
I have tried to reinstall but then it complains it is already installed.Is there a way to fix this problem without having to reinstall windows vista which in my case would mean

I am having a problem using POP3 and SMTP set up. Some times I need to use a website email t respond but getting too may error messages and unable to remove those as well. I prefer using my regular email gerdabrook@att.net I am familiar with but cannot with a website response email.
